Tormod - Na Bheachd Fhèin / Norman - In His Own Words  NEW Monday, 9 October BBC ALBA, 9.00pm – 10.00pm

Norman MacLean was a unique talent who left a precious legacy. As a renowned Gaelic singer, a top class piper, a writer and a pioneering entertainer who put Gaelic comedy on the map with his popular TV series, 'Tormod air Telly' in the 70s, Norman's life was one of many twists and turns. His final years though saw him return to Uist - a time which was happy, contented and truly rewarding. In a unique interview to mark 50 years in showbiz, which was recorded just before his 80th birthday, Norman looked back at his life in a frank, and candid way, with that trademark wit to the fore and a sparkle very much still in his eyes.

This week in Shieldinch…Pete feels the pressure when he finally tracks down his estranged wife, Francesca; Annie’s attempts to embrace normality are thrown when she discovers the identity of Alex’s new business partner; and Frankie’s behaviour causes Amber concern. Pete’s thrilled to have finally tracked down his wife, Francesca and sets about persuading her to grant him a quickie divorce. Fearful of what will happen if Caitlin meets his wife, Pete begs Angus and Bob to let him use their flat as neutral territory to talk to Francesca. However, Francesca misreads Pete’s actions and assumes he wants to rekindle their relationship. Despite Pete’s best efforts to keep them apart, it’s not long before Francesca and Caitlin come face- to-face and sparks fly. Firmly caught between his past and present loves, Pete soon finds himself manipulated by emotion and blackmailed by Francesca. Elsewhere, Annie realises her family need stability and routine in order to overcome their grief. She decides to return to work but keeping busy fails to distract her from an uncomfortable truth about Alex – he killed someone. Unsure about the future of their marriage, Annie’s further shocked to discover Alex is in business with Rick Harper again. Frankie starts to feel dizzy while out for a run and Amber comes to her aid. Suspecting she’s pushing herself too hard, Amber asks if she’s eating enough but Frankie misreads her concern as interference. However, it soon becomes clear Amber may be on the right track after all.

Pete is played by Andy Gray, Francesca by Karen Dunbar, Annie by Dawn Steele, Alex by Jordan Young, Frankie by Louise McMenemy, Amber by Jenny Hulse, Caitlin by Gayle Telfer Stevens, Angus by Scott Fletcher, Bob by Stephen Purdon and Rick by Alex Ferns.

The Beechgrove Garden  Last in series Thursday 12 October BBC Two Scotland, 7.00-7.30pm

It’s the final programme of the Beechgrove series in 2017 and Jim McColl, Carole Baxter, George Anderson, Chris Beardshaw and Brian Cunningham are all battening down the hatches, preparing the garden for winter but with a barrowload of hopeful hints to anticipate spring. Jim and Carole have succumbed to a touch of tulip fever as they go a little crazy with bulbs, planting in containers, in spring displays and naturalising in the lawn. Carole also visits nonagenarian gardener Sandy Inkster in his immaculate, award winning garden in Cults, Aberdeenshire. Sandy has a long life time of experience to impart from maintaining tartan patterns on the lawn through to keeping your shrubs in beautiful shape. Alongside his beautiful garden, in his 90th year, Sandy’s concession to doing a little less is that he has cut down from two allotments to just the one. Whatever the weather, the programme and series will finish with an impressive harvest display.
