By night, with big blow-dried hair and head-to-toe in shimmering Lycra, she steps into the ring as Viper, one of the UK's hottest female wresters. The contrast is not lost on her and in Fight Like A Girl, the first in a new run of BBC One's Our Lives strand, Kimberly explains what it’s like to lead her double life. She reveals everything from how she copes with her rigorous training regime, to how she deals with homesickness as the sport she loves takes her all over the world. Wrestling promoter Mark Dallas reckons she has it all. He says: “She’s relatable, she’s likeable, she’s a positive role model. She’s got that It-Factor that you can’t teach.” A schedule of up to four fights per week all over the UK can take its toll on Kimberly of Ayrshire, Scotland. She feels the strain even more when she sets off for Japan to take part in a coveted double world title bout. “Being in the spotlight is the loneliest place in the world.” She says. “It’s hard to build relationships with people when you don’t know which side of the world you’ll be on. You belong to everybody and nobody when you do this.” But she also loves what she does. She adds: "Travelling the world and living your dream - you can't beat that." Having attracted a massive social media following, Kimberly is mobbed by fans of the cult sport when she’s out and about in Tokyo. But the glamorous side of being at the top of her game couldn't be further from her mind when nerves set in as she prepares to battle it out for the double-title belt. Fight Like A Girl is a Raise The Roof production for the BBC. LD _____________________________________________________________________________________________________ Vets: Gach Creutair Beo Monday 11 June BBC ALBA, 8.30 – 9.00pm In this programme, the oncology ward at the Small Animal Hospital at Glasgow Vet School treats many forms of cancer. Professor Clare Knottenbelt is in charge of Skippy the collie’s chemotherapy treatment, and radiographer Shona Burnside is treating another dog, Harry, with radiotherapy. Vet Romain Pizzi is busy tending birds at the Wildlife Rescue Centre near Alloa; an injured sedge warbler and peregrine falcon are in for treatment. And, in Forfar, vet Fiona Crowden has her hands full with a litter of seven-week-old police puppies that are in for their first check-up. IS _____________________________________________________________________________________________________ Trusadh - Stròc (Stroke) Monday 11 June BBC ALBA, 9.00 – 10.00pm A stroke can change an individual’s and a family’s life instantly. It is the third commonest cause of death in Scotland, and whilst more likely to affect those over 55, it can also affect those much younger. Theresa’s horrified to learn Kim has sent Molly’s blood off for testing. Determined to intercept the results, Theresa rushes to the surgery but is thwarted by Kim who is shocked to discover Molly has excessive levels of sleeping pills in her system. Kim confronts Theresa who lies that Molly took them accidentally. Kim gives Theresa the benefit of the doubt but her suspicions are raised again later when she finds something alarming in Molly’s tea. With Kim about to expose the ugly truth, Theresa takes drastic action to silence her once and for all. Elsewhere, Bob hatches an elaborate plan with Angus and Lou to pop the question to Kim while Pete and Caitlin celebrate the anniversary of their first date. Caitlin’s plans a surprise party to celebrate their romance but, in doing so, raises Pete’s suspicions. Wrongly assuming Caitlin’s reignited her affair with Gabriel, a devastated Pete decides to leave Shieldinch but is stopped by Danny. Pete is forced to confess all to Danny who fumes at the revelation and, later, publically humiliates Caitlin. AJ’s horrified when a newspaper misreports his age. Feeling old, AJ’s offered a youthful makeover by Madonna – with mixed results. Theresa is played by Maureen Carr, Kim by Frances Thorburn, Pete by Andy Gray, Caitlin by Gayle Telfer Stevens, Danny by Neil Pendleton, Madonna by Sienna Glackin, AJ by Sanjeev Kohli, Bob by Stephen Purdon, Angus by Scott Fletcher, Lou by Lesley Hart and Gabriel by Garry Sweeney. *** Please Note: River City will take a two week break after this episode, during the coverage of the World Cup. River City will return to BBC One Scotland from Tuesday 3rd July 2018 *** JW ____________________________________________________________________________________________________ Village of Dreams NEW Tuesday 12 June BBC Two Scotland, 9.00-10.00pm This new documentary is a heart-warming insight into an amazing community in Scotland where people with learning disabilities are at the heart of busy village life. The hour-long film features a year in the life of an extraordinary village of Newton Dee, in Aberdeenshire. The residents of Newton Dee are a mixture of people with learning disabilities and the people who care for them. Everyone lives communally and works together in the farms, gardens, bakery and workshops here. Resident Ali says: “It is really wonderful how this community has really brought us together. And we all look out and support each other.” The village is part of the Camphill movement which has taken off internationally after being developed in Scotland in the wake of the Second World War by Austrian paediatrician Dr Karl Konig who fled Vienna when his country was annexed by the Nazis. From its beginnings in Aberdeenshire, within sight of the current Newton Dee village, it has now grown to include more than 100 communities across the world. A warm, funny, life affirming programme, made by Hopscotch Films, Village of Dreams features the gamut of life in Newton Dee from spring lambs to a rabbit called Steph, a talent show and tales of killer seagulls. The legal status of the drug has changed back and forth in recent times – An Sgrudaire considers whether it’s due another change. Ruairidh Alastair speaks to young people to get their views on the issue, to two MSPs, a GP and an addiction charity worker to hear a range of opinions. Invited by the ‘Beautiful Perth’ volunteers, Jim McColl, Carole Baxter, George Anderson and Brian Cunningham find out exactly how the city earns that title, horticulturally as they visit some of the City’s best kept gardens, including the unique and culturally diverse Moncrieff Allotments that are situated on Moncrieff Island in the middle of the Tay and only accessible by vehicles at low tide. Jim, Carole, George and Brian then host a Beechgrove Gardener’s Question Time in the recently renovated Perth Theatre. HM _____________________________________________________________________________________________________ Fianais NEW Thursday 14 June BBC ALBA, 8.30 – 9.00pm John Morrison hears Murdo Morrison’s account of being in New York during the terror attacks on the Twin Towers of the World Trade Centre on September 11, 2001. Murdo narrowly avoided being in the towers when the first plane struck. Two planes were also brought down in Virginia and Pennsylvania and, in total, almost 3,000 people died. Murdo recounts how he and his wife went sight-seeing to the top of one of the Towers the day before the attacks to take some photographs.

A week-long season of programmes will celebrate the street culture which has grown and developed in Scotland since the 80s, with its own spectrum of emerging and established stars but is largely unheralded by mainstream media. The programming on the new BBC Scotland channel will run from Sunday June 16 to Friday June 21. A cornerstone of this new season will be a major new documentary, Loki’s History of Scottish Hip Hop. Award winning author Darren 'Loki’ McGarvey reveals the History of Scottish hip hop and how over the last 30 or so years it has spawned a revolutionary street-level culture in cities and towns across the country.

    Deliberative audience research for the Public Interest Test into the proposed introduction of a new BBC Scotland TV channel Report of findings from PAPA July 2017 Objectives, Sample & Methodology 2 Context & Objectives 1. The BBC has announced plans to launch a new channel in Scotland - running 7pm – midnight everyday 2. As part of the new regulatory structure of the BBC, this launch is subject to a Public Interest Test (PIT), overseen by the BBC Executive Board, and an Ofcom Competition Assessment 3. To meet the criteria set out in the PIT, the BBC Board must be satisfied that the new initiative supports the BBC’s restated mission; that it promotes its public purposes; that the BBC has taken reasonable steps to ensure that the change has no impact on fair and effective competition; and that the public value of the initiative justifies any impact on the competition 4. To measure the public value of the initiative a process is necessary which includes a measurement of the potential personal and citizen value which audiences in Scotland could gain from the launch of the new initiative 5. In late May 2017, PAPA conducted a deliberative qualitative study to provide indicative measures and insights of how the audience may value the proposal 6. A sample of the Scottish public, reflective of adults in Scotland, was presented with the proposal in order to: - Understand and explore the personal value they evaluate in the proposal - Understand and explore the citizen value they evaluate in the proposal - Identify other insights into competition, fulfilment of the Public Purposes or wider impacts the proposal might have on the BBC and the broader broadcasting environment 3 Overview of Methodology • A deliberative approach was used for this research in order to uncover the informed, considered views of a wide range of members of the public.
