Press Release PRESS RELEASE Case file: Jonathan Creek New Episode: Daemons' Roost Location: BBC One Duration: 90 minute special Date: Filming now Lead investigator: Alan Davies (QI, Alan Davies: As Yet Untitled, Whites) returns as Jonathan Creek Returning investigator: Sarah Alexander (The Worst Week of My Life, Coupling) as Jonathan's wife Polly New suspects/persons of interest: Warwick Davis (Star Wars, Life’s Too Short) Emun Elliott (The Paradise, Game of Thrones) Ken Bones (Dr Who, Atlantis) Rosalind March (Calendar Girls, The Evermoor Chronicles) Jason Barnett (Agatha Raisin, Bad Education) Jo Martin (Still Open All Hours, Doctors) Alleged plot: According to legend, a 19th century sorcerer named Jacob Surtees would summon the powers of Hell to terrorise and subjugate his victims at his home, ‘Daemons’ Roost’. A hundred and fifty years after his death the house is occupied by another, equally macabre, figure: veteran horror film director Nathan Clore. With his health now failing he has summoned home his stepdaughter Alison, to share with her the chilling truth of what happened to her family there. However, just days before her arrival Nathan Clore has suffered a debilitating stroke, rendering him terribly paralysed and unable to communicate the very truth that she has come to learn. After assisting Alison’s husband in the past, Jonathan Creek is called upon to help again but as the story unfolds, with ever more sinister twists and turns, the gruesome rituals that were once enacted in the dungeon of Daemons’ Roost are frighteningly revived with horrifying consequences. Witness statements: Shane Allen, Controller, Comedy Commissioning: “Another sublime and intricately conceived treat from David Renwick and a welcome return for Alan Davies in this signature role. You can see the influence of David’s unique blend of dark comedy and crime drama across television since the debut of this show nearly 20 years ago, as it remains a pioneering class act and evergreen favourite with the audience.” Alan Davies: “Jonathan Creek finds himself in real danger. It’s the spookiest episode ever." Police notes: Jonathan Creek is a BBC Studios production written by David Renwick, commissioned by Shane Allen, directed by Sandy Johnson (Cradle To Grave, Benidorm, The Incredible Adventures of Professor Branestawm), produced by Rosemary McGowan and the Executive Producers are Steven Canny and David Renwick. .

  • Oxford Lecture 1 - Final Master
OXFORD LECTURE 1 - FINAL MASTER HOW TO GROW A CREATIVE BUSINESS BY ACCIDENT The legendarily bullish film director Alan Parker once adapted Shaw's famous dictum about the academic profession - "those who can, do. Those who can't teach." So far so familiar. And to many in this room, no doubt, so annoying. But he went on: "those who can't teach, teach gym. And those who can't teach gym, teach at film school." I appreciate that Oxford is not a film school, though it has a more distinguished record than any film school for supplying the talent that has fuelled the British film and TV industries for almost a century - on and off camera. Writers like Richard Curtis, who brought us 4 Weddings and a Funeral, Love Actually, The Vicar of Dibley and Blackadder; or The Full Monty and Slumdog Millionaire scribe Simon Beaufoy; directors of the diversity of Looking for Eric's Ken Loach and 24 Hour Party People's Michael Winterbottom; writer/directors like Monty Python's Terry Jones and the Thick of It's Armando Iannucci; actors and performers ranging from Hugh Grant to Rowan Atkinson; and broadcasting luminaries like the BBC's Director General Mark Thompson and News International's very own Rupert Murdoch. So, Oxford has been a pretty efficient film and TV school, without even trying. And perhaps that is Parker's point. Can what passes for creativity in film and TV ever really be taught? But here in my capacity as News International Visiting Professor of Broadcast Media (or if you prefer an acronym, NIVPOB - the final M is silent) I may be even further down Parker's food chain.

Newswires Leaked Emails Rio Tinto contacts regulatory authorities 9 November 2016 On 29 August 2016, Rio Tinto became aware of email correspondence from 2011 relating to contractual payments totalling US$10.5 million made to a consultant providing advisory services on the Simandou project in Guinea. The company launched an investigation into the matter led by external counsel. Based on the investigation to date, Rio Tinto has today notified the relevant authorities in the United Kingdom and United States and is in the process of contacting the Australian authorities. Energy & Minerals chief executive Alan Davies, who had accountability for the Simandou project in 2011, has been suspended with immediate effect. Legal & Regulatory Affairs group executive Debra Valentine, having previously notified the company of her intention to retire on 1 May 2017, has stepped down from her role. Rio Tinto intends to co-operate fully with any subsequent inquiries from all of the relevant authorities. Further comment at this time is therefore not appropriate. Senior management changes 16 November 2016 Rio Tinto today terminated the contracts of Energy & Minerals chief executive Alan Davies and Legal & Regulatory Affairs Group executive Debra Valentine. The Rio Tinto board reviewed the findings to date of an internal investigation into 2011 contractual arrangements with a consultant who provided advisory services on the Simandou project in Guinea. The board's decision does not pre-judge the course of any external inquiries into this matter.
