O. Box 56, 35200 Telde, Canary Islands, Spain Abstract Bone and fins development in Seriola rivoliana were studied from cleared and stained specimens from 3 to 33 days after hatching. The vertebral column began to mineralize in the neural arches at 4.40 ± 0.14 mm Standard Length (SL), continued with the haemal arches and centrums following a cranial-caudal direction. Mineralization of the caudal fin structures started with the caudal rays by 5.12 ± 0.11 mm SL, at the same time that the notochord flexion occurs. The first dorsal and anal fin structures were the hard spines (S), and lepidotrichium (R) by 8.01 ± 0.26 mm SL. The metamorphosis was completed by 11.82 ± 0.4 mm SL. Finally, the fin supports (pterygiophores) and the caudal fins were completely mineralized by 16.1 ± 0.89 mm SL. In addition, the meristic data of 23 structures were provided. -

Phylogenetic Relationships of the Plagusiidae Dana, 1851
PHYLOGENETIC RELATIONSHIPS OF THE PLAGUSIIDAE DANA, 1851 (BRACHYURA), WITH DESCRIPTION OF A NEW GENUS AND RECOGNITION OF PERCNIDAE ŠTEVCIˇ C,´ 2005, AS AN INDEPENDENT FAMILY BY CHRISTOPH D. SCHUBART1,3) and JOSÉ A. CUESTA2,4) 1) Biologie I, Universität Regensburg, D-93040 Regensburg, Germany 2) Instituto de Ciencias Marinas de Andalucía, CSIC, Avenida República Saharaui, 2, E-11519 Puerto Real, Cádiz, Spain ABSTRACT A molecular and morphological analysis of representatives of the family Plagusiidae, including all members of Plagusia Latreille, 1804, and the recently established Davusia Guinot, 2007, was carried out. Due to marked differences in adult and larval morphology, as well as mitochondrial and nuclear DNA, two species of Plagusia,viz.,P. chabrus (Linnaeus, 1758), and P. dentipes De Haan, 1835, are considered sister taxa but distinct from other members of the genus. They are transferred to a new genus, Guinusia. A molecular phylogeny suggests that Guinusia is not closer related to Plagusia than to the plagusiid genera Euchirograpsus H. Milne Edwards, 1853, and Miersiograpsus Türkay, 1978. Furthermore, with new evidence from mitochondrial and nuclear DNA as well as a reappraisal of the larval morphology, the genus Percnon Gistel, 1848, is formally removed from the Plagusiidae and recognized as a separate family, Percnidae Števciˇ c,´ 2005. RÉSUMÉ Une analyse moléculaire et morphologique des représentants de la famille des Plagusiidae comprenant tous les membres du genre Plagusia Latreille, 1804, et le genre récemment établi Davusia Guinot, 2007, a été réalisée. Over 10,500 names are treated including 6,793 valid species and subspecies (with 1,907 primary synonyms), 1,271 genera and subgenera (with 393 primary synonyms), 93 families and 38 superfamilies. Nomenclatural and taxonomic problems are reviewed in detail, and many resolved. Detailed notes and references are provided where necessary. The constitution of a large number of families and superfamilies is discussed in detail, with the positions of some taxa rearranged in an attempt to form a stable base for future taxonomic studies. This is the first time the nomenclature of any large group of decapod crustaceans has been examined in such detail. Zernov's Phyllophora Field) at the Beginning of the 21St Century

Abstract In the first half of the 20th century, there was an extensive biocoenosis of the unattached red algae Phyllophora crispa on the mussel muds of the central section of the Black Sea’s northwestern shelf, which is known as Zernov’s Phyllophora Field (ZPF). At that time, the area of ZPF was approximately 11000 km2. More than a century after the description of ZPF, long-term changes in its phyto- and zoobenthos have been noted. A period of ecological crisis of the Black Sea ecosystem during the second half of the 20th century was destructive for the phytobenthos of ZPF, with the complete degradation of unattached Phyllophora biocoenosis. In contrast, after a sharp decline in the quantitative development of macrozoobenthos of the soft bottoms in the 1970s, its recovery to pre-crisis levels in the 2010s was noted. Despite the difference in the aforementioned phyto- and zoobenthos dynamics, habitat in the 4025 km² area of the botanical sanctuary of national importance “Zernov’s Phyllophora Field” was recognised as Critically Endangered (CR) within the European Red List of Habitats. -

The study of the Portuguese marine ichthyofauna has a long historical tradition, rooted back in the 18th Century. Here we present an annotated checklist of the marine fishes from Portuguese waters, including the area encompassed by the proposed extension of the Portuguese continental shelf and the Economic Exclusive Zone (EEZ). The list is based on historical literature records and taxon occurrence data obtained from natural history collections, together with new revisions and occurrences. -
