Administrative Support Assistant GS-303-6/7 Permanent Full-Time – POSSIBLE OPPORUTNITY ($36,078 - $52,120)

Duty Location: Springs, Colorado

Organizational Unit: Region 2 - Pike and San Isabel National Forests and Cimarron and Comanche National Grasslands, Supervisor’s Office. The Supervisor's Office oversees management of 8 ranger districts covering 3 million acres of National Forest and Grassland. The Ranger Districts are widely distributed across central and southeastern Colorado and southwestern . The Mountain Ranger Districts are located in Leadville, Salida, Canon City, Fairplay, Morrison, and Colorado Springs CO. The Grasslands Ranger Districts are located in La Junta and Springfield CO, and Elkhart KS.

Administrative Support Assistant Position Details

This position reports to the District Ranger and provides advice and counsel to District personnel in a wide variety of administrative areas. The position also performs clerical and technical tasks, as well as processing transactions in support of administrative and resource programs for the District.

General duties include: • Procurement - Conduct the majority of micro purchases for the District with a government purchase card, enter purchase requisitions, and provide general procurement support to the District. • Program Support – Recommend changes in administrative practices and serve as the main point of contact and coordination on administrative matters for the District. Help to develop and implement clerical and administrative processes on the District and across the Forest. Provide the District Ranger with necessary information needed to make decisions on administrative processes on the District. Interact closely with the administrative group at the Supervisor’s Office. Submit personnel actions for processing and help with on- boarding of new employees. Track budget items for the District, including monitoring expenditures. Process grant/agreement documents when necessary. • Office Automation – Proofs and edits documents for completeness and accuracy before finalizing correspondence. Serves as a point of contact for the CIO in technology matters on the District such as new computer deployment, etc. Tracks correspondence for the District to ensure that responses are submitted in a timely manner. • Other Duties – As assigned.

Duty Station Specifics Pike/San Isabel National Forests & Cimarron/Comanche National Grasslands Ranger District located in Colorado Springs, Colorado

Elevation: 6,035 feet. Population: Roughly 450,000 Climate: Average annual precipitation is about 15 inches; average annual snowfall is about 37 inches a year. Average summer high temperature is about 83º; winter high temperature is about 45º. Colorado Springs averages 250 days of sunshine a year. Housing Availability: Government housing is not available. Rentals are available in Colorado Springs ranging from $500 to $1,500. Houses usually start around $120,000 in Colorado Springs. Medical and Hospital Facilities: A full range of medical facilities is available including 4 civilian and 2 military hospitals. Hundreds of physicians and medical specialists practice in the Colorado Springs area. Schools/Colleges: There are several elementary, middle and high schools in the area of Colorado Springs with many different School districts as well as a few private schools. Pikes Peak Community College is located in Colorado Springs and there is one public university in Colorado Springs; The University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, as well as one private college; Colorado College. Churches: Most denominations are represented in the communities. Public Transportation: Commercial airlines fly out of , Pueblo and Colorado Springs. There is a public bus system in Colorado Springs as well as a public system that runs between Colorado Springs and Woodland Park. There is also a bus system that runs between Colorado Springs and Denver. Recreation Facilities: Quality outdoor recreation opportunities exist on federal and state public lands, including lake and stream fishing, waterskiing, snow skiing, snowmobiling, both big and small game hunting, hiking, rock and mountain climbing, river rafting, mountain biking, and the viewing of fall colors. There are two Wilderness areas on the Pike National Forest; The Lost Creek and Mt. Evens. Both provide trails to hike on and backpack in on. Pikes Peak sits in the middle of the district and stands 14,110ft above sea level and offers extraordinary views of both the plains to the East and the mountains further to the West.
