Gremlin Story, by Marc Goldblatt Classic-Technologies.Com
Gremlin Story, by Marc Goldblatt Classic-Technologies.com On February 1, 2016, I had an hour for lunch and I needed to ship out a Classic Technologies fuse box that day. However, I was out of paper preventing me from printing out the manuals I include with each sale. The plan was to buy paper, run home, print out the documents, close-up the package, and bring it to the post office. The first place I stopped surprisingly didn’t have paper so I ended up cutting through my neighborhood to go to another store. I happened to drive by a house that was having a detached garage being torn down and saw an old filthy car parked on the side of the road. It was a 1974 AMC Gremlin with a 232 inline six motor. I continued my errand and rushed back to look at the car. I saw that it had 48k miles, no rust, and was all original. I asked if it was for sale and was told yes, and they would take anything for it. They wanted it gone as soon as possible; clearly not knowing the value of a classic car in this condition. It had been parked since 1985 and the motor was frozen, one of the wheels was frozen and there were no keys or title to the car. First I offered $500 and they reiterated, we will take anything for it. I went to the ATM and returned asking if they would take $250; and they said $300 and its yours. The deal was done and the whole time I was thinking what am I going to tell my wife because I have two other classic cars and one that is still not finished after a few years of working on it. -

The Porsche Collection Phillip Island Classic PORSCHES GREATEST HITS PLAY AGAIN by Michael Browning
The Formula 1 Porsche displayed an interesting disc brake design and pioneering cooling fan placed horizontally above its air-cooled boxer engine. Dan Gurney won the 1962 GP of France and the Solitude Race. Thereafter the firm withdrew from Grand Prix racing. The Porsche Collection Phillip Island Classic PORSCHES GREATEST HITS PLAY AGAIN By Michael Browning Rouen, France July 8th 1962: It might have been a German car with an American driver, but the big French crowd But that was not the end of Porsche’s 1969 was on its feet applauding as the sleek race glory, for by the end of the year the silver Porsche with Dan Gurney driving 908 had brought the marque its first World took the chequered flag, giving the famous Championship of Makes, with notable wins sports car maker’s new naturally-aspirated at Brands Hatch, the Nurburgring and eight cylinder 1.5 litre F1 car its first Grand Watkins Glen. Prix win in only its fourth start. The Type 550 Spyder, first shown to the public in 1953 with a flat, tubular frame and four-cylinder, four- camshaft engine, opened the era of thoroughbred sports cars at Porsche. In the hands of enthusiastic factory and private sports car drivers and with ongoing development, the 550 Spyder continued to offer competitive advantage until 1957. With this vehicle Hans Hermann won the 1500 cc category of the 3388 km-long Race “Carrera Panamericana” in Mexico 1954. And it was hardly a hollow victory, with The following year, Porsche did it all again, the Porsche a lap clear of such luminaries this time finishing 1st, 2nd, 4th and 5th in as Tony Maggs’ and Jim Clark’s Lotuses, the Targa Florio with its evolutionary 908/03 Graham Hill’s BRM. -
1953 Hudson Cars Described
1953 HUDSON CARS DESCRIBED 1953 HUDSON - GENERAL: A downsized Hudson arrived this year, called the Hudson Jet. It had styling that would be mimicked by the rest of the line in 1954. Gone was the Pacemaker. with its nameplate replaced by a new, lower level Wasp. The upper level Wasp, called the "Super Wasp," and it moved into the former Commodore 6 slot that now disappeared. The Hornet finally supplanted the Commodore 8 completely. The nameplate was retired, putting the 8-cylinder powerplant out to pasture. That L-head I-8, having served twenty long years from 1932 until 1952, was gone. The consolidation of lines and the removal of the Commodore Six and Eight allowed for less tooling in the Wasp-Hornet lines and should have saved money. The problem was that production kept dropping even though the cars were considered popular. The issue at hand was dated styling and the lack of an OHV V-8. At the root of the lower production was Hudson's lack of investment dollars when that trend to V8s and more modern styling was pulling the Big Three away from all other competition. Worse, a good deal the sales problems were the result of Hudson misreading their audience and thinking that these changes weren't needed. Even with the introduction of the Jet, production dropped. And Hudson's racing victories, that outshone all rivals, while earning respect for the brand, did not entice buyers into the showrooms. INNOVATIONS: The Hudson Jet, a smaller, more economical model, was introduced. It was an attempt to drop into the lower price market to pick up sales. -

The Racing Lamborghini Competition-hardened machinery out of Sant'Agata is few and far between, but this 400GT 2+2 has documented provenance WORDS AND PHOTOGRAPHY BY JEFF KOCH he twin passions raised by automobiles and racing surely intersect on a twisty back road somewhere in Italy. All have storied racing in their past, with names and dates and places and carsall inextricably woven into the marque'sfabric and mystique; the association between Italian cars and racing isso strong that it's hard to think of an Italian car without some sort of competition provenance backing it up. The street cars benefit, in image if in no other way. After all, what captures the public imagination more than spinning overhead cams, a lusty exhaust note, a whiff of high-octane gas and subsequent exhaust, and a flash of brightly hued paint as it screams by in a blur of color and drama? And yet, as with any rule worth mentioning, there is an exception.
