SANTA MONICA, CA (February 16, 2015) –Aniplex of America announced at their Katsucon (National Harbor, MD) panel their plans to release World Conquest Zvezda Plot on a Complete DVD Set on April 28th. The set will feature the entire series including the OVA episode and numerous bonuses that fans of this original sci-fi series with a comedic twist would not want to miss. Pre-orders for the set starts today. Directed by Tensai Okamura (Blue Exorcist, Darker than Black) and produced by the studio A-1 Pictures (Sword Art Online, SAEKANO: How to Raise a Boring Girlfriend, Blue Exorcist) World Conquest Zvezda Plot first saw its simulcast schedule in January 2013 with episodes streaming on the Aniplex Channel, Crunchyroll, Hulu and DAISUKI. The story of World Conquest Zvezda Plot follows a little girl named Kate Hoshimiya and her colorful subordinates as they plot for world domination. The Complete DVD Set will feature all 12 of the TV series plus the 13th OVA episode never before seen on TV in the original Japanese audio with English subtitles. The bonus contents will include the textless opening and ending sequences, the episode 13 (OVA) preview, trailers and commercials.     CINEMA 7! 131 REDISCOVERING OUR HUMANITY: HOW THE POSTHUMAN NOIR ANIME, DARKER THAN BLACK, SUBVERTS THE TROPES OF FILM NOIR TO REAFFIRM A HUMANIST AGENDA Maxine Gee (University of York) I intended to reason. This passion is detrimental to me.... — Mary Shelly1 There is an inherent contradiction at the heart of posthuman noir; this sub-genre focuses on science fictional futures where certain characters have moved beyond the traditional boundaries of what is considered human; these posthumans are modified for perfection, often presented as more logical and rational than their human counterparts. However, the emphasis, in all of the Anglo-American films and Japanese anime included in the posthuman noir corpus, is on more typically human traits of emotion and irrationality and their awakening/re-awakening in these posthuman characters. This hints that the sub- genre is not in fact positing a truly posthumanist standpoint but reaffirming an older humanist one, assuaging fears that what is traditionally considered human has no place in these technologically advanced worlds. This article will explore this theory through its application to one posthuman noir Japanese anime, Tensai Okamura’s Darker Than Black (2007), a series which is indicative of the other Anglo-American films and Japanese anime included in the posthuman noir corpus between 1982 and 2012. Darker Than Black, which aired for 26 episodes between April and September 2007, was produced by animation studios Bones and Aniplex. It was followed by a shorter second series of 13 episodes in 2009 and an OVA (original video animation) of four episodes in 2010. The analysis in this article will concentrate on the first series of Darker Than Black.

The article represents the study, devoted to the peculiarities of the modern infernal religious mythology manifestation in the space of mass media. The authors’ interest is focused on the analysis of the locus of religious mythology from through the aberration of Western culture characters on the Japanese ones. Thereby the narrative scope of the author’s concept of “religious mythology” is expanded. The interaction of mass culture and religion within the framework of a single study is increasingly common, however, the syntax of Shintoism and anime is a rare, although, relevant topic. In this article, the authors set the task of examining and analysing the influence of Shintoism, Christianity, Buddhism and American culture on the interpretation of infernal cultural heroes (characters) in the media discourse of Japanese animation developed during the creation of animated films and TV series.
