The argument takes Robert Sinnerbrink’s and Iain Macdonald’s divergent readings of Terrence Malick’s The New World and shows how a figural approach can overcome the nature/culture divide informing romantic (Sinnerbrink) and nihilistic (Macdonald) approaches to Malick’s treatment of human-nature relations. In using historical and romanticised figural gestures such as Pocahontas and John Smith, Malick’s film disrupts perception, sensations and significations associated with ideological and mythic readings of the tainted legend, and opens these gestures to their cinematic life. The argument draws on applications of Peter Fenves’ work on Benjamin’s conception of the turn of time to figural experiences of films. In order to illustrate the significance of Fenves’ study in film-philosophy, the analysis will pause at Malick’s use of the map-territory relation in the title sequences of The New World. A figural approach to the map-territory relation will crystallise time as a Benjaminian sphere of total neutrality, a non-subjective continuity of experience able to produce a temporal reduction that does not reside in subjective intentionality. Benjamin’s shape of time illuminates a vision of nature beyond nihilism and delusional romantic ideals, it contributes to a more defined philosophical role of the figural in film-philosophy and opens the film’s figural gestures to their posthumous and, indeed, posthuman, temporal plasticity. Keywords: Time, Phenomenology, Walter Benjamin, Terrence Malick, Nature-culture relations. CINEMA 7 · ABSTRACTS! 2 ON SOME POSTHUMAN MOTIFS IN WALTER BENJAMIN: MICKEY MOUSE, BARBARISM AND TECHNOLOGICAL INNERVATION Daniel Mourenza (University of Leeds) This article discerns some posthuman motifs in Walter Benjamin’s writings on film and analyzes them in dialogue with recent literature on posthumanism. I argue that, from his early anthropological texts, Benjamin devised what can be considered a posthuman theme: the idea of the creation of a collective body in and through technology. It is, nonetheless, in his writings on film that he sets out most fully how this technological innervation into the body of the collective should occur, in this case through a rush of energy through the body of the audience. The arena of cinema reception appears in this way as a paradigmatic space in which to adapt technology into the collective body of the audience. However, cinema reception is only a rehearsal for what could exist for real in the revolution, when the collective attempts to gain mastery over the new techno-body. In this new reconfiguration of humanity, traditional formations such as families and nations would be discarded. I thus suggest that Benjamin’s theory finds an echo in current feminist and postcolonial posthuman authors. In this article, I will particularly focus on the period of the “destructive character” in Benjamin’s oeuvre (1931-1933), in which he develops a fierce critique of bourgeois humanism and conceives the posthuman figures of the inhuman and the positive barbarian, of which Mickey Mouse is a privileged advocate. For Benjamin, Mickey Mouse and his friends were examples of what human beings would resemble once they had merged with technology. Thus, I will argue that Benjamin’s theories around technology, the human body

Rossouw has recently been appointed as Head of the Department Art History and Image Studies – University of the Free State, South Africa – where he lectures in the Programme in Film and Visual Media. His latest publications appear in Short Film Studies, Image & Text, and New Review of Film and Television Studies. Abstract This essay considers the prominent role of acts and gestures of walking – a persistent, though critically neglected motif – in Terrence Malick’s cinema. In recognition of many intimate connections between walking and contemplation, I argue that Malick’s particular staging of walking characters, always in harmony with the camera’s own “walks”, comprises a key source for the “contemplative” effects that especially philo- sophical commentators like to attribute to his style. Achieving such effects, however, requires that viewers be sufficiently- en gaged by the walking presented on-screen. Accordingly, Mal- ick’s films do not fixate on single, extended episodes of walk- ing, as one would find in Slow Cinema. They instead strive to enact an experience of walking that induces in viewers a par- ticular sense of “walking-with”. In this regard, I examine Mal- ick’s continual reliance on two strategies: (a) Steadicam fol- lowing-shots of wandering figures, which involve viewers in their motion of walking; and (b) a strict avoidance of long takes in favor of cadenced montage, which invites viewers into a reflective rhythm of walking. The spectacle of high- velocity 3D detritus raging past terror-struck, puny-looking astronauts stranded in space turned the Earth’s orbit into not only a site of horror but also a wasteland of hyperobjects,[1] with discarded electronics and satellite parts threatening everything that lies in the path of their ballistic whirl (see Figure 1). While the film made no environmental commentary on the long-term effect of space debris on communication systems or the broader ecological problem of long-lasting waste materials, it nevertheless projected a harrowing vision of technological breakdown, which found a thrilling articulation in the projectile aesthetics of stereoscopic cinema.

  • Kamen Rider Heisei Part 1: Kuuga and Agito It Is the Year 1999
By: Digger and Anon2 Kamen Rider Heisei Part 1: Kuuga and Agito It is the year 1999. This is a world on the precipice of a new millennium, but with the hopes of the near future came the dredges of the past. Struggles and bloodshed that find their roots in mankind’s infancy will blossom in this time of change, but so too will those who can find the strength to stand against the darkness and fight on. Our story begins with an ancient war between humanity's peaceful progenitors, the Linto, and the warfaring Grongi. Infusing themselves with an ancient material from the sky, the Grongi mutated themselves into beastial warriors and cruelly hunted the Linto for sport and power. The Linto beseeched help from creator of man and their servants, selecting one of the Linto to become the inheritor of the grand power of “Kuuga” and drive the mutant Grongi into hibernation. As payment, the Overlord of Darkness accepted many of their number as his angels, the “Lords” who would serve him forever more. It is the year 1999, and once more, the Grongi have awakened to begin their Gegeru, a tribal hunting "game" now with the population of Japan as its quarry. The police are almost powerless to stop these "Unidentified Lifeforms", as they become dependant on the next holder of Kuuga’s terrifying power, a wanderer named Godai Yusuke. Meanwhile, rumors spread of people who have evolved beyond their normal capacities, those that are capable of strange and impossible things...as well as rumors of their equally bizarre deaths following the revelation of this power.

kamen rider kuuga download batch torrent Kamen rider kuuga download batch torrent. In light of the Megaupload shutdown, we've decided to finally start releasing episodes via torrent. I know a lot of you right now are shaking your computer screens violently, shouting "It's about time!!" I know, I know. I'm slow to accept change. In all seriousness, Multiupload has been very slow these past few days. And many of the episodes mirrors will need to be replaced (we're working on that now, please let us know which episodes are down, and we will replace them as soon as we can!) So this all leads to it being the perfect time to release batch torrents. We're starting with Kamen Rider, since we're releasing episode 25 next week. So if you've been waiting to dive in to the original series, now's your chance! We have two batches of episodes, each in both available formats. Remember to seed the torrents as long as possible! I put these up last night, and before they were even announced my computer was running so slow that I'm amazed I even typed out this post! Also, starting next release, we're going to include torrents for individual releases too. That way, no matter how hectic and uncertain the digital sharing frontier gets, we'll have a backup for getting episodes out there. So we'll see you again soon, with another incredible episode of classic Kamen Rider action. Keep an eye out in the meantime, and let us know if there are any dead links on the downloads page.
