Olen kiertänyt erilaisia con-tapahtumia yli kymmenen vuoden ajan ja joka tapahtumassa on mahtavaa nähdä, miten intohimoiset harrastajat tekevät kerta toisensa jälkeen laadukkaampia coneja. Tapahtumia pyritään aina parantamaan ja vaikka muutokset eivät aina näy suoraan kaikille kävijöille, kehitystä tapahtuu vähintään pienten hienosäätöjen kautta. Juhlavuoden kunniaksi haluamme tietysti kunnianhimoisesti tuottaa teille parasta mahdollista kokemusta, johon pääsemme vain ja ainoastaan teidän avullanne. Olemme vuosien saatossa saaneet teiltä loistavia ideoita palautteen muodossa, mutta nyt tarvitsemme teitä enemmän kuin koskaan! Tavoitteena on tietysti iskeä juhlavuoden tapahtuma täyteen spektaakkeleita, jotka lyövät kaikki kävijät ällikällä! Een stevige animatiefilmkuur: er bestaat geen beter medicijn om je gelaat terug in de plooi te krijgen. Neem dus eens goed diep adem en kom van 12 tot 20 februari naar het Flageygebouw. Daar hebben doorwinterde optimisten een deugddoend festival bekokstoofd… Dit jaar opent ANIMA met Mary and Max, de nieuwste langspeler van de Australiër Adam Elliot. Deze atypische, hilarische en ook tedere film waarin we de stemmen van o.m. Eric Bana, Toni Collette en Philip Seymour Hoffman horen, won de Grand Prix voor de beste langspeler van het recentste festival van Annecy ex aequo met Coraline van Henry Selick. ANIMA, dat is eerst en vooral een internationale competitie voor langspelers die tijdens de voorbije 18 maanden werden afgewerkt. Dit jaar werden niet minder dan 10 films weerhouden: 5 voor kinderen en evenveel voor volwassenen. Het publiek kan een van de deelnemende films bekronen. -

The Blue Exorcist TV Series is based on Kazue Kato’s hit manga published in Jump Square (by SHUEISHA) and it saw a multi-stream simulcast on websites such as Hulu, Crunchyroll (subtitled version), and as well as on Neon Alley (English dub version). In response to its worldwide popularity, the series was also adapted into a film and theatrically released across North America this past August. Rediscovering Our Humanity: How the Posthuman Noir Anime, Darker Than Black, Subverts the Tropes of Film Noir to Reaffirm a Humanist Agenda
CINEMA 7! 131 REDISCOVERING OUR HUMANITY: HOW THE POSTHUMAN NOIR ANIME, DARKER THAN BLACK, SUBVERTS THE TROPES OF FILM NOIR TO REAFFIRM A HUMANIST AGENDA Maxine Gee (University of York) I intended to reason. This passion is detrimental to me.... — Mary Shelly1 There is an inherent contradiction at the heart of posthuman noir; this sub-genre focuses on science fictional futures where certain characters have moved beyond the traditional boundaries of what is considered human; these posthumans are modified for perfection, often presented as more logical and rational than their human counterparts. However, the emphasis, in all of the Anglo-American films and Japanese anime included in the posthuman noir corpus, is on more typically human traits of emotion and irrationality and their awakening/re-awakening in these posthuman characters. This hints that the sub- genre is not in fact positing a truly posthumanist standpoint but reaffirming an older humanist one, assuaging fears that what is traditionally considered human has no place in these technologically advanced worlds. This article will explore this theory through its application to one posthuman noir Japanese anime, Tensai Okamura’s Darker Than Black (2007), a series which is indicative of the other Anglo-American films and Japanese anime included in the posthuman noir corpus between 1982 and 2012. Darker Than Black, which aired for 26 episodes between April and September 2007, was produced by animation studios Bones and Aniplex. It was followed by a shorter second series of 13 episodes in 2009 and an OVA (original video animation) of four episodes in 2010. The analysis in this article will concentrate on the first series of Darker Than Black. -
