The Program's highest priority is protecting the 176 species of vertebrate and invertebrate animals and 259 species of native plants that are officially listed as Endangered, Threatened or of Special Concern in Massachusetts. Endangered species conservation in Massachusetts depends on you! A major source of funding for the protection of rare and endangered species comes from voluntary donations on state income tax forms. Contributions go to the Natural Heritage & Endangered Species Fund, which provides a portion of the operating budget for the Natural Heritage & Endangered Species Program. Hoary Alyssum Plant Pest Risk Assessment
Oregon Department of Agriculture Noxious Weed Pest Risk Assessment for Hoary Alyssum Berteroa incana Brassicaceae December 2014 Findings of Review and Assessment: Hoary alyssum meets the criteria of an “A” Listed Noxious Weed as defined by the ODA Noxious Weed Policy and Classification System. This determination is based on two independent risk assessments and a review of the literature. Using a rating system as outlined by the USDA-APHIS Weed Risk Assessment Guidelines, garlic mustard received a score of 64 out of a potential score of 89. Using the ODA Noxious Weed Rating system, garlic mustard received a score of 17 supporting an ”A” listing. Introduction: Hoary alyssum is a snowy white flowered upright forb native to Europe. It is an annual or a short-lived perennial that reproduces only by seed. It has a slender taproot, star-shaped hairs on the stems, leaves, sepals, and seedpods. Four white, notched petals on clumps of flowers are clustered at the stem tips. It is in the mustard family and shares the Berteroa genus (“false madworts”) with four other plants but hoary alyssum is the only one currently known to be present in the United States. Alyssum incana is a taxonomic synonym for this plant. Hoary alyssum is known to be weedy in much of its range and is a listed noxious weed in Michigan, Idaho, California, Washington, Montana, Minnesota, and British Columbia. It has since spread steadily across the west and is now found in scattered populations Washington, Idaho, and Nevada and is present at one site in northeastern Oregon near the town of Wallowa. -

Except L. erysimi and L. pseudobrassicae, all other species were exclusively Brassica feeders. L. erysimi and L. pseudobrassicae consumed 79.25 and 86.36% plants from Brassicaceae, respectively. There were six monophagous, four oligophagous and three polyphagous species of Lipaphis. In most of the cases GAI values did not vary much because of strong affinity of Lipaphis to Brassica hosts. IAWA Journal, Vol. 27 (4), 2006: 419–442 ANATOMICAL CHARACTERISTICS AND ECOLOGICAL TRENDS IN THE XYLEM AND PHLOEM OF BRASSICACEAE AND RESEDACAE Fritz Hans Schweingruber Swiss Federal Research Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape, CH-8903 Birmensdorf, Switzerland (= corresponding address) SUMMARY The xylem and phloem of Brassicaceae (116 and 82 species respectively) and the xylem of Resedaceae (8 species) from arid, subtropical and tem- perate regions in Western Europe and North America is described and ana- lysed, compared with taxonomic classifications, and assigned to their ecological range. The xylem of different life forms (herbaceous plants, dwarf shrubs and shrubs) of both families consists of libriform fibres and short, narrow vessels that are 20–50 μm in diameter and have alter- nate vestured pits and simple perforations. The axial parenchyma is para- tracheal and, in most species, the ray cells are exclusively upright or square. Very few Brassicaceae species have helical thickening on the vessel walls, and crystals in fibres. The xylem anatomy of Resedaceae is in general very similar to that of the Brassicaceae. Vestured pits occur only in one species of Resedaceae. Brassicaceae show clear ecological trends: annual rings are usually dis- tinct, except in arid and subtropical lowland zones; semi-ring-porosity decreases from the alpine zone to the hill zone at lower altitude. Plants with numerous narrow vessels are mainly found in the alpine zone. Xylem without rays is mainly present in plants growing in the Alps, both at low and high altitudes. The reaction wood of the Brassicaceae consists primarily of thick-walled fibres, whereas that of the Resedaceae contains gelatinous fibres. -

Bradley Southern Science & Information Section Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources Peterborough, Ontario Revised Edition, 2007 Southern Ontario Vascular Plant Species List This species checklist has been compiled in order to assist field biologists who are sampling vegetative plots in Southern Ontario. It is not intended to be a complete species list for the region. The intended range for this vascular plant list is Ecoregions (Site Regions) 5E, 6E and 7E. i Nomenclature The nomenclature used for this listing of 2,532 plant species, subspecies and varieties, is in accordance with the Ontario Plant List (OPL), 1998 [see Further Reading for full citation]. This is the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resource’s publication which has been selected as the corporate standard for plant nomenclature. There have been many nomenclatural innovations in the past several years since the publication of the Ontario Plant List that are not reflected in this listing. However, the OPL has a listing of many of the synonyms that have been used recently in the botanical literature. But according to our field and herbarium studies, it was understood that this specimen is B. obliqua not B. incana. For this reason in this study B. incana is given as a new record from Kars for the flora of Turkey.
