David Garcia is a scientist, motivational speaker, and a model born to Colombian immigrants with a rare neurological condition called Moebius Syndrome. He earned a B.A. in Chemistry and B.S. in Biology from Kean University, where he participated in the McNair Scholars program, performing research under the mentorship of Provost Jeffrey Toney. While at Kean, he participated in summer research programs at The Johns Hopkins School of Public Health and Brown University’s Department of Chemistry. These experiences were career orienting and motivated him to continue his education. He pursued a Ph.D. in Chemistry at an Ivy League institution, Brown University where he studied the effect of oxygen on the metabolism of lung epithelial cells and was awarded a prestigious fellowship from the National Institutes of Health.
