Em provas improvisadas e, depois, com autódromos construídos para comportar o crescimento da modalidade, o estado criou campeonatos e recebeu as maiores categorias do Brasil. A partir dessa estrutura criada, os pilotos do estado foram ganhando espaço e cinco deles estiveram na maior categoria do automobilismo, a Fórmula 1.
