Our Lady Calendar 2020 Layout 1 Scripture As for Mary she treasured all these things and pondered them in her heart. Luke 2:19 Prayer The Angelus The Memorare Regina Coeli Marian Calendar Marian Places 2020 Fatima Mount Carmel Lourdes Knock The Mysteries of the Rosary Joyful Luminous Sorrowful Glorious DO WHATEVER HE TELLS YOU John 2:15 he Gospels record the many times during His public ministry when TJesus went away to pray to the Father. The Gospels also tell of the times when Jesus spoke of doing the Will of the Father. The activities are intrinsically linked. When the disciplines asked Jesus how to pray He taught them to say the Our Father (Luke 11:2-4; Matthew 6:9-13). As a twelve year old boy He spoke in the Temple of being about His Father’s business. In the Garden of Gethsemane He said to His disciples ‘sit here while I go over there and pray’ and asked them on three separate occasions to stay awake with Him. He then prayed saying the first time ‘My Father if it is possible let this cup pass from Me; yet, not what I want, but what you want’ (Matthew 26:39) and on the second and third times ‘My Father, if this cannot pass unless I drink it, your will be done’ (Matthew 26:42). The Church teaches that prayer is an uplifting of the mind and heart to God. When introducing the Compendium of the Catechism of the Catholic Church in 2005 Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI said that it presents Christ imitated in prayer as the model and master of our prayerful attitude to the Father. The Compendium explains about forms of prayer - blessing and adoration; petition and intercession; thanksgiving and praise - and expressions of prayer - vocal; meditation (reflection which begins in the Word of God in the Bible); contemplation (simply gazing upon God in silence and love). Our Blessed Lady is mankind’s greatest proponent of prayerfulness and dedication to the Will of God. This is seen in Mary’s unhesitating response ‘here I am Lord, let it be with me according to your word’ (Luke 1:38), on being told by the Angel Gabriel in Nazareth that she was to give birth to the Son of God. The words of the Angelus and the Hail Mary are daily reminders of Mary’s saying yes to God, Mary’s fiat. At the Wedding in Cana Mary said to the servants ‘do whatever He tells you’ (John 2:5). Mary’s words, recorded in St Luke’s Gospel, to her cousin Elizabeth, whom she visited in the hill country in Judea before the birth of John the Baptist, provide the text of the Magnificat. Our Blessed Lady has appeared many times down the years, for example in Lourdes, rue du Bac in Paris, Guadalupe, Fatima and Knock. There were recurring themes during the apparitions. Our Lady has asked for a return to God, for prayers for peace, for the Rosary to be said, for penance and on some occasions for a church to be built. CHARIOT OF FIRE Carmelite Vocation Newsletter of the Province of St. Elias Winter 2009 Fall 2009 Autumn is beautiful. Outside our offices, surrounding the National Shrine of Our Lady of Mount Carmel are the usual oaks, poplars, and maple trees stretching their limbs into the air with brilliance. The colors of Fall are always spectacular and it never seems to get old. Many of our experiences just become routine. It becomes laborious to suit up and begin again. Our time quickly becomes lost in exams and all the noise that the world has to offer. However, no matter how many times Summer begins to slip into Fall, I am always taken aback. As a boy growing up in East Tennessee, we always made a Fall trip to the Great Smoky Mountains. It was a formative experience in my life. I could sense something greater than this world leading me on a journey of discovery. One filled with mystery and intrigue. I experienced many things, but none that really filled the space left deep within me for knowledge about this world and God. As I ex- plored this God and the Church, I came to believe in Jesus Christ, as the revelation to humanity of the new and everlasting covenant. Reading Scripture and the lives of people that were touched by the Son of God, made the hunger grow deeper. Yes, I do believe, but what now was my deep felt yearning. I prayed. I prayed, a lot. The beauty of Creation was a strong influence on St. Therese of the Child Jesus.

St Therese Calendar 2020_Layout 1 01/10/2019 08:18 Page 3 Dear Friend, The Carmelite Family is very blessed to have a Family of Saints associated with us: Saints Louis and Zélie Martin and their daughter, St. Thérèse of Lisieux. We believe that the Martin Family embody what is best in family life and offer a wonderful example of what a family can become. Consequently, in conjunction with its organisers, we arranged that the Relics of these three extraordinary Saints would be in Ireland for the World Meeting of Families. They travelled around the country so that as many people as possible could visit them and, of course, they were present at the Papal Mass in the Phoenix Park. We were delighted with the positive and warm reception that the Relics received over the five weeks they were in Ireland. I take this opportunity to thank again all those who were involved in this great event. Louis and Zélie were canonized by Pope Francis in 2015, the first couple to be canonized. This was a recognition that married life and parenting are a very special and important vocation.

The journey of researching on Claudio Monteverdi that culminated in this final thesis was a long process that involved the extreme scrutiny, patience, attentive feedback, and endless hours of revisions from some of these people. To them, I am infinitely grateful for the time they dedicated to this project. I want to ex- press first my deep gratitude to my professors and mentors, Dr.
