Following in his distinguished family’s footsteps, the budding, young talent began singing at the age of ten, before picking up the guitar two years later. Jesse’s debut gig was with his fi rst band at Tamworth’s well-known Imperial Hotel, where they wowed the crowd in a ‘Band Search Competition’. With father, Mike Vee, well known for his ‘Whispering Jack’ show and his sister Amy, known internationally for her original music, Jesse is predicted to be just as successful. With a modern choice of music and an enthusiastic personality, Jesse is the ideal entertainer at any venue with rave reviews from his previous functions. Remember this name because the already-popular Jesse Vee is on the rise and we will no doubt be seeing alot more of him in the future. Music goers can catch Jesse’s performance this Saturday night 21 September at the Belmore Hotel in Scone at 8.30pm. Image: Jesse Vee

The opening night crowd was treated to the first time in the arts centre’s history that all the ceramic artists in Muswellbrook’s permanent Collections were on display. The ceramics ranged from tiny boxes and pots to complex statues over a metre tall. Arts centre manager, Brad Franks addressed the guests saying that, “This exhibition Craft as Art captures the period in Australian ceramics when great changes took place as the studio potters gave way to the artist as craftsperson and the functional object became a showpiece and then a sculpture. These changes didn’t happen Images: [Above] Helen Fairweather of Framing Good with Denman’s Maude overnight and the works in this show cover the period from 1971 Butta [Below] Len Gallic artist Marion Woolley with her miniature School’s Out to 2012”. at Glen Gallic As well as Craft as Art the evening also saw the opening of Murrurundi artist Jean Davies exhibition: Follow the Page. Jean is well known for her excellent mastery of pastel and watercolour and this exhibition of scenes along the Pages River allows her skills and love of the river to shine. It is an exceptional exhibition by a local artist and not to be missed. Jean was thrilled on the night to have a large contingent of supporters from Murrurundi attend the opening. The night also saw heavy sales of Jean’s very collectable works. In the centre court gallery the ever popular Miniatures exhibition series reached number XVI. This is quite an achievement for local artists from across the Upper Hunter with seventy eight tiny artworks on display including wire sculptures, embroidery, silverpoint, watercolour and drawings in ink, pastel and graphite. Many of these works are also for sale and it is a terrific opportunity to acquire and support local artists. The exhibitions were opened by the Deputy Mayor of Muswellbrook Shire Councillor Malcolm Ogg. The Craft as Art exhibition will be accompanied by a full colour illustrated and informative catalogue of the ceramics collection and this publication will be launched at the Muswellbrook Creative Arts Fair being held on Saturday 5 October 2013 between 10.00am and 3.00pm at The Pot House in Lion’s Park, Lower Brook Street, Muswellbrook. The opening night was sponsored by Stone Hill Vineyard, Hunter Belle Cheese and the Mad Hatter Café. The exhibitions are on display at the Muswellbrook Regional Arts Centre until Sunday 27th October 2013.

10 - The Upper Hunter Entertainer - Thursday 19th September, 2013 www.huntervalleyprinting.com.au/Pages/Entertainer.php leisure & lifestyle Clean Team for Aberdeen The Scone and Aberdeen Neighbourhood Centre recently announced the appointment of a ‘Clean Team’.

Lee Watts manager of the Scone and Aberdeen Neighbourhood Centre said, “A group of enthusiastic volunteers put up their hands at a community meeting last week to take on the role to educate visitors and the community on how important it is to get that litter in the bin. The grant that we have received from Keep Australia Beautiful will enable us to tidy up and reduce risks from fires and snakes.” Co-ordinator for the project, Elizabeth Birch stated, “The volunteers who make up the ‘Clean Team’ are very keen to get started. They will be easily recognised in their green ‘Clean Team’ t-shirts as they go about cleaning Jockey Park. We have noticed people using the park - this number will only increase with the upcoming school holidays. There are many residents who already take great pride in keeping their yards and streets tidy and rubbish free; a clean landscape makes the town look more appealing to everyone. If everyone does their bit, we will be able to win the battle over litter.” Over the next few weeks the Aberdeen ‘Clean Team’ will undertake a litter audit to identify other public areas that could be included in the clean up. The Scone & Aberdeen Neighbourhood Centre would like to congratulate the volunteers that have taken the initiative to help make Aberdeen a more attractive place for families and visitors. Furniture, Giftware, Soft Furnishings, Big Plans for the Royal Hotel Jewellery, Accessories, Clothing, Stockists for L‛Occitane products & Glasshouse Candles. www.serendipityscone.com.au By Laura Sykes The Royal Hotel in Muswellbrook is set to undergo some big plans for improvement under the helm of Allan and Lisa Moxham who could barely resist the opportunity to take up ownership of a hotel with such a long and colourful history. Built on the first block of land to be sold in Muswellbrook back in 1834, the Royal Hotel has been running as licensed premises since its completion the following year. The building that stands today isn’t the original, which burnt down in 1893. After working in the club and hotel industry for several years, the Moxham’s dream of owning their own pub became a reality when they purchased the freehold of the Royal Hotel in Muswellbrook. Moving to the area from the Central Coast, it didn’t take long to realise that their five-year lease on the premises wasn’t going to be long enough to achieve all they had in mind. From there, the decision to make the purchase was an easy one. “We realised we were very well suited to this business and decided to buy the freehold,” Allan says. “We have big plans for the improvement of the hotel and have been told by many patrons that our bistro has the best pub grub around.” “Lisa manages the bistro while our chef, Michael Simon guarantees a great feed; our bar staff including Karen, Dimm, Jeff and Rick are some of the best bartenders around.” One newly introduced feature at the pub that is proving popular with customers is the fortnightly addition of ‘Funked up Friday’. DJ’s and entertainment for the nights are sourced from across the country, hailing from Queensland to Sydney and Newcastle. Live entertainment is also available on every other Friday night, with karaoke running on Saturdays. The bistro is open Tuesday to Saturday for lunch and Monday to Saturday pubs & clubs for dinner, and is well known for great food at reasonable prices.
