PLEASE WELCOME OUR NEW DIRECTOR OF EVANGELIZATON! Greengs! My is Thimons (pronounced TimRins) and I am filled with joy and gratude to be here at St. Michael the Archangel Parish as the new Director of Evangelizaon. I am grateful to Fr. Brian and the staff for the warm welcome and I look forward to meeng many of you in the months ahead. As a quick introducon, I was raised in Bellevue as the oldest of ten children. Following college in 2001, I spent some me at St. Paul’s Seminary (I was there with Fr. Ben Barr), and then worked for a bit at Bell Federal Savings on Cochran Rd. where I would come to St. Bernard’s for daily Mass. I aended graduate school at the Ponfical John Paul II Ins- tute in Washington, D.C. My wife, Megan, and I were married in 2005 at Assumpon Church in Bellevue and we spent the last 15 years in Ohio (Youngstown, Columbus, and Cincinna) where I served in the & Family Life Offices of three Dioceses. We are happy to be back home in Pisburgh (a er being surrounded by Bengals fans) with our six children (one girl and five boys R three of whom are redheads, ages 14 R 3 months). As I begin this new role, I recall ’ words, “The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure buried in a field.” (Mahew 13:44) In the midst of all of the fear, chaos, division, and confusion in our modern world, our Catholic Faith is that treasure. It is my hope that fathers and mothers will be supported and encouraged as you strive to hand on this treasure to your children. May we all seek to grow in our knowledge and love of Jesus Christ, truly present in the Most Holy Eucharist. It is His perfect love that casts out all fear, brings true peace, and heals our wounds. I would love to meet and speak with you. Please don’t hesitate to give me a call at 412R561R0199.

“Order your soul; reduce your wants; live in charity; associate in Chrisan community; obey the laws; trust in Providence.” St Augusne Caritas Ministry In this very unseling me, we find ourselves living in an unprecedented way. It might be easiest to hunker down in our homes with our families, and there is of course a need to be prudent about our contact and me with others, but what is the Lord calling us to do? St Augusne tells us in this quote to “order your soul.” We should begin in prayer. Individuals, couples and families can pray each day for those who are ill, those who are caring for them and all in our community struggling during this difficult me. St Augusne also shares that we must “live in charity” and “associate in Chrisan community.” During this challenging me we must also act. We must turn outward toward our neighbor in prayer and in small ways of caring. Our new and growing Caritas Ministry here at the parish is a way to reach out to those who are most vulnerable. The Caritas Ministry will assist people who are homebound and need groceries or prescripons picked up or maybe a phone call to check in. The Ministry will also help people who might be struggling with loss of work at this me and need food assistance, etc. People may call or email the numbers below for assistance and someone will get back to them. The Ministers in the group will help fulfill the requests and leave what is needed at their door. If you would like to join the Caritas Ministry to support others, please reach out via email or phone and Marilyn Holmes, point person for this important project, will get back to you. Please also carry the spirit of our Caritas Ministry to the people on your street, in your neighborhood and those in your family. If we all pay aenon to those around us, no one will feel alone during this me. This quote of St Augusne closes with, “trust in Providence.” God is with us. He is present in each and every home. He knows the challenges we face and He faces them with us. He knows the calm that can come from not running so much and breathing in the simple joys of each other. Be sure to intenonally welcome Him into your home and into each moments of your day. Caritas Ministry R [email protected] R 412R561R6021

SCHOOL NEWS A new tradion for Ave Maria Academy students was created on October 7 to honor the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary. Students at Park campus began the morning on the athlec field looking high above them in the sunny sky at the balloon rosary creat- ed in navy blue, light blue and white colors. The Mt. Lebanon campus students embraced this new tradion, which was created by the former St. Thomas More School many years ago, as a way of sharing the values they now hold as one school community. The Mt. Lebanon campus students gathered in the back parking lot in the a ernoon as Fr. Brian Welding gave an opening blessing to all students for this faith filled event. With rosaries in their hands and eyes focused above at the balloon rosary flowing in the wind, the student’s love for Our Lady of the Rosary was evident for all to see. Ave Maria Academy looks forward to more shared tradi- ons and connued among all students throughout the school year. Congratulaons to the Ave Maria Academy Cross Country Team! The team received five team trophies and many individual performance medals at the South Hills Invitaonal Cross Country Meet on Saturday, September 26 in Youthtowne. Runners ran a difficult and hilly course of nearly 2 miles in the hot sun to compete with other Catholic schools in the area. The team will compete again on Saturday, October 24 at the same course for the Diocesan Championship. Best of luck to the 80 runners on the team! Thank you to the school families, parishioners and alumni who supported the Ave Maria Academy Fall Flower Fundraiser! The hardy chrysanthemums, kale / cabbage plants and pansies were ordered at both campuses and profited over $6500 for the students. The school received such posive feedback on the ease of ordering, delivery opons and quality of the plants, that a Winter Flower Sale Fundraiser is being planned for mid November. Ave Maria Academy is excited to brighten homes with flowers while supporng their students! Ave Maria Academy is holding a Sarris Candies Christmas Fundraiser.
