The the soloists household familiarity of his name, however, must be attributed to his work in musical theatre, most famously, his adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet in the 1957 musical West Side Story, written in collaboration with the lyricist Stephen Sondheim. Two of the most popular numbers in the musical, America and Somewhere, have been superbly arranged by Eric Crees and the pairing of these two numbers demonstrates the excitement and emotional range of Bernstein’s masterpiece.

Tom Hutchinson Joanne Childs Owen Farr Rule Britannia has long been a showcase solo for the euphonium, but in a new rendition by Dan Price it is the tenor horn that is featured in this set of virtuosi variations. The exceptionally talented Owen Farr takes us on a breathtaking ride through all the twists and turns given to Thomas Arne’s popular melody in this exciting take on an old favourite.

Sometimes the simplest music can be the most beautiful, and that Christopher Thomas David Childs Richard Davies is certainly the case for the next piece of music, the traditional Irish Tune from County Derry, collected by Percy Grainger and arranged for brass band by Dennis Wright.

Dr Robert Childs is a leading figure in the world of brass music. Cory Band hails from the Rhondda Valley in South Wales. In 2002 the band was chosen to play for the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations and has performed in many of the world’s finest concert venues such as the Royal Albert Hall, Birmingham’s Symphony Hall, Greighallen in Bergen, Norway, Stravinsky Hall, Montreux, Switzerland and Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw.
