Roseau .......................................................19-4-2 team from Brainerd. Two weeks later the team swept the field in the Christmas Holiday Classic with impressive wins over Holy Family, Wayzata, and Lakeville South. When the team followed up with a big win over a highly touted Chaska team, the Red Knights planted their flag among the top ranked team in the state. They would remain ranked among the top 10 teams for the balance of the regular season The young Red Knight team proved pressure-ready when they stormed past Holy Angels by a score of 7-1 in the quarterfinals. Two days later the boys in red skated to a dramatic 3-2 semi-final victory over Wayzata to earn a place in the Section 6AA title game against Edina at Mariucci Arena in Minneapolis. Despite a valiant effort, the team’s bid to return to state tournament stage was denied by a more mature Edina team. The Hornets would go onto win the state championship in convincing fashion as the Red Knights could only look back on a season of growth and achievement. The 2018-19 Red Knights has set the table for the 2019-20 campaign. BSM returns all of its top scoring, goaltending, and defensemen. Besides my column in The Hockey News’ Ultimate Pool Guide, and my contributions to this year’s Score Forecaster (fifth year doing each), I put an ad in McKeen’s. Some sacrifice their favorite treats while others adopt practices intended to deepen their faith. As part of my experience, I intentionally tried to slow down and really notice God’s presence in my daily life. It has been a wonderful experience of awareness, and it is in that light that I share some of the exciting developments from within our BSM community. Stories about the various journeys of our Benilde High School, St. Margaret’s Academy, and Benilde-St. Margaret’s alumni regularly find their way back to our current faculty and staff members. Often, those tales are focused on the unique accomplishments of each individual; however, many with long memories reminisce about the days when these alumni were students. In the past six months, two BSM graduates, Mark Vande Hei ’85 and Kelly Pannek ’14, have grabbed headlines for different reasons. Mark, a NASA astronaut, spent six months aboard the International Space Station carrying out scientific and engineering-related missions. During that same time, Kelly was preparing for gold as a member of the US Women’s Hockey team competing at the Olympics in PyeongChang. In these unique contexts, both Red Knights have spoken of the importance of their time at Benilde-St. Margaret’s over the course of their lifetimes.

    AMERICAN HOCKEY COACHES ASOCIATION For immediate release: Wednesday, April 7, 2004 MEN’S DIVISION I ICE HOCKEY JOFA ALL-AMERICANS ANNOUNCED Eleven players competing for an NCAA Division I Men’s Ice Hockey Championship in Boston this weekend have been honored as JOFA ALL-AMERICANS for 2003-04. NCAA semifinalists Boston College and Maine led all teams with four players each, while the other semifinalists, Minnesota Duluth and Denver, had two and one, respectively. Also with multiple honorees: Michigan State, Minnesota, and North Dakota, each with a pair. Noteworthy among the selections: • The only player who was previously honored was Brown University goaltender Yann Danis, a Second Team choice in 2001-2002 and a First Team choice this year. • Four honorees hail from Europe: Bernd Brückler of Wisconsin and Thomas Vanek of Minnesota are both from Graz, Austria; Thomas Pöck of Massachusetts is from Klagenfurt, Austria; and Colin Shields of Maine is from Glasgow, Scotland. • The team includes 12 seniors, seven juniors, five sophomores, and a lone freshman (defenseman A.J. Thelen of Michigan State.) • While injuries prevented Boston College forward Ben Eaves from repeat recognition (First Team last year; Second Team in 2001-02), his brother Patrick earned Second Team honors. The standard for brother acts would be the five First Team selections of Harvard’s Mark (three) and Scott (two) from 1981 to 1986 (none in 1984.) This past weekend, they added another feather to their collective cap by HOCKEY EAST defeating UNH 3-1 on Saturday to clinch their first Hockey East tournament championship. TOURNAMENT It was the sixth Hockey East tourney title overall for the Eagle program, the most by any team. Amazingly, the Eagles did it without Player of the Year Patrick Eaves, who was sidelined due to March 10-13 – Quarterfinals injury. Instead, they relied on outstanding contributions from rookie goaltender Cory Schneider, UNH defeated Northeastern, 6-1, 4-0 who stopped 65 of 67 shots faced on the weekend, and sophomore forward Brian Boyle, who BC defeated UMass, 3-2 (OT), 5-1 Maine defeated UML, 7-2, 5-1 scored three of the Eagles’ five goals en route to securing the tournament MVP honor. BU defeated Providence, 1-4, 2-0, 2-0 BC faced its toughest task in outlasting Maine in Friday’s first semifinal. Stretching to the 9:09 mark of the second overtime, it was the longest semifinal in Hockey East history.
