Press Release Noah Smith Director of Media Relations PRESSPRESS Hockey East Association Phone: (781) 245-2122 RELEASERELEASE Fax: (781) 245-2492 www.HockeyEastOnline.com [email protected] FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: APRIL 12, 2004 WEEKLY RELEASE #28 DENVER ENDS OUTSTANDING SEASON FOR BLACK BEARS Maine offense comes up just short in NCAA championship game In the end, it once again came down to a single goal. Unfortunately, the Maine Black Bears were on the short end this time. Following eight straight one-goal victories, seven coming in the postseason, fate caught REGIONAL RESULTS up with the Black Bears as they finally suffered a one-goal loss, dropping a 1-0 decision to Denver in the NCAA championship game. The result epitomized the recent struggles endured by the Maine offense, which has been limited to two goals or fewer six times in the last eight Friday, March 26 games. Maine finished its season with only eight losses, four coming by a final score of 1-0. East Regional at Albany, NY The score soured a fantastic finish to the season for Maine goaltender Jim Howard, who MAINE 5, Harvard 4 calmly offset the team’s scoring drought with his own one-man stopping show at the other Wisconsin 1, Ohio State 0 (OT) end. He made 40 saves in Thursday’s semifinal victory over Boston College, limiting the fully West Regional at Colorado Springs, CO operational Eagle offense to one goal and receiving only two goals in support. That was enough for the win, however, his fifth of the playoffs. With only one goal allowed in the final, North Dakota 3, Holy Cross 0 Howard completed his magnificent sophomore season with a GAA of 1.19 and a save per- Denver 3, Miami 2 centage of .956. Both figures represent new single-season records in NCAA Division-I play. Maine rookie Mike Hamilton was also a force in the semifinal vs. BC, setting up both Black Saturday, March 27 Bear goals to extend his amazing postseason run. He scored Maine’s only goal in a 1-0 win over BU in the Hockey East semifinal, scored a goal to start a dramatic four-goal Maine Northeast Regional at Manchester, NH comeback vs. Harvard in his first NCAA tournament game, and scored the OT winner in a 2- BOSTON COLLEGE 5, Niagara 2 1 triumph vs. Wisconsin in the East Regional final. He was named to the East Regional All- Michigan 4, UNH 1 Tournament team and was subsequently selected as the Superskills Hockey East Rookie of Midwest Regional at Grand Rapids, MI the Month. He has been named Rookie of the Week for the fourth consecutive time. Boston College ended its season one step closer to another championship, qualifying for Minnesota 5, Notre Dame 2 the Frozen Four for the first time since winning it all in 2001. Loaded with talent, the Eagles Minnesota Duluth 5, Michigan St. 0 will bid farewell to snipers Ben Eaves and Tony Voce, and star defenseman J.D. Forrest, all of East Regional Final whom were rookies on the 2001 team. Ryan Shannon scored BC’s only goal in the semifinal MAINE 2, Wisconsin 1 (OT) vs. Maine, and finished with 42 points, No. 2 on the Eagle chart behind Voce and tied for fourth among all Hockey East players. DOBBER’S 2010-11 FANTASY GUIDE DOBBERHOCKEY.COM – HOME OF THE TOP 300 FANTASY PLAYERS I think we’re at the point in the fantasy hockey universe where DobberHockey.com is either known in a fantasy league, or the GM’s are sleeping. Besides my column in The Hockey News’ Ultimate Pool Guide, and my contributions to this year’s Score Forecaster (fifth year doing each), I put an ad in McKeen’s. That covers the big three hockey pool magazines and you should have at least one of them as part of your draft prep. The other thing you need, of course, is this Guide right here. It is not only updated throughout the summer, but I also make sure that the features/tidbits found in here are unique. I know what’s in the print mags and I have always tried to set this Guide apart from them. Once again, this is an automatic download – just pick it up in your downloads section. Look for one or two updates in August, then one or two updates between September 1st and 14th. After that, when training camp is in full swing, I will be updating every two or three days right into October. Make sure you download the latest prior to heading into your draft (and don’t ask me on one day if I’ll be updating the next day – I get so many of those that I am unable to answer them all, just download as late as you can). Any updates beyond this original release will be in bold blue.

SPORTS SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 13, 2016 Hong Kong’s Ng on cue to storm male bastion HONG KONG: A decade after taking up the sport because she liked her father’s outfit, Hong Kong’s Ng On Yee finds herself on the brink of snooker history as she embarks on a mission to reach the main draw of the men’s world championships. Reanne Evans made an unsuccessful bid to achieve the feat last year and Ng, who ended the Englishwoman’s 10-year reign as world champion in April, will have to beat three men to get through qualifying in Sheffield, England in April. “When my coach told me this was a possibility I was very excited to compete in this best tournament,” Ng told Reuters TV. “It will be an awesome opportunity to learn more as I always wonder what really created a gap between the men and the ladies. “I’m sure ... all the top lady players, they are very excited to see that the World Snooker Association is showing signs of mov- ing away from past traditions and opening the door for more opportunities for ladies to play in different tournaments.” The 25-year-old has come a long way since she took up the sport in her early teens, in part to avoid studying. “My father was the manager of the snooker club, and he took me with him most of the time,” Hg recalled. “One day I saw him at the competition with this uniform. And I loved this uniform very much. “And I thought it would be special if I could wear the same.

  • The Hobey Baker Memorial Award
THE HOBEY BAKER MEMORIAL AWARD Initiated in 1981 the Hobey Baker Award is named in honor of Hobey Baker, a hockey and football superstar and above-average student at Princeton from 1910 to 1914, who died during service in World War I. It is presented annually to the most outstanding college hockey player in the United States. David Emma of Boston College was Hockey East’s first Hobey Baker recipient in 1991. An outstanding rookie named Paul Kariya captured the award while leading his Maine team to a NCAA title in 1993 after fellow Black Bear Scott Pellerin had collected the prestigious trophy in 1992, giving the eight-year-old league three consecutive winners. After a four-year hiatus, Hockey East commenced its second string of winners when BU’s Chris Drury was named college hockey’s most dominant player in 1998. New Hampshire’s Jason Krog added the trophy to his case in 1999 and BC’s Mike Mottau completed Hockey East’s second trifecta (and sixth winner in 10 years) when he stepped up to the medal stand in April of 2000. Three-time finalist Gionta fell just short of making it four winners in a row for Hockey East when he finished runner-up to Michigan State’s Ryan Miller in 2001. Award Winners Award Each year since 2002, the top 10 finalists have been narrowed down to the final three, the “Hobey Hat Trick”. Hockey East has an active run of eight consecutive seasons with at least one Hobey Hat Trick representative, with 11 total in that span.
