    EVERYONE A LEARNER EVERYONE LEARNING A MESSAGE FROM THE HEADTEACHER A warm welcome to our second newsletter of the year. As I reflect on my first term at Abbot Beyne School I think all of the things that have been different this year, however ultimately the focus on learning and teaching and student achievement remains the same. I want to thank you for your continued support of the school. It has been a challenging year for everybody and I thank you for your understanding and patience. Compared to local and national secondary school figures we do appear to have had fewer Covid-19 cases but I still recognise the impact of asking students to self-isolate and remote learning has on families. As you are aware we have closed a day early for the Christmas holidays to further minimise contact between students to try to ensure everybody can enjoy the break. I have had a number of telephone calls with parents this term to try and receive some feedback about the school. Overwhelmingly this feedback has been positive. In particular parents have been impressed with the level of communication. To further enhance this we will be developing next term a parent and student app to keep you up to date with your child’s education and progress at the school. Please keep an eye on your emails for further details. To support learning and teaching at the school we are going to make a slight change to our behaviour policy. All students should bring their iPads to school, fully charged.

In a strict Mormon household somewhere in the seam between East London and Essex, a girl is given Dizzee Rascal’s ground-breaking grime album Boy in da Corner by her best friend SS Vyper. The research is focussed on the non- denominational school sector - approximately 90% of Scottish schools. The CfE has brought a shift in focus from solely curricular content to greater emphasis on character formation. Four key descriptors, termed “capacities”, are used: responsible citizens, effective contributors, successful learners and confident individuals. A number of supplementary programmes are being promoted to achieve this through schemes such as the ‘Rights Respecting School Award’, ‘Inspire-Aspire’, ‘Peer Mediation’ and ‘Restorative Justice’. GROOTJEN Abstract In the field of Music Information Retrieval, studies on Hit Song Science are becoming more and more popular. The concept of predicting whether a song has the potential to become a hit song is an interesting challenge. This paper describes my research on how hit song predictors can be utilized to predict hit songs. Three subject groups of predictors were gathered from the Last.fm service, based on a selection of past hit songs from the record charts. By gathering new data from these predictors and using a term frequency-inversed document frequency algorithm on their listened tracks, I was able to determine which songs had the potential to become a hit song. The results showed that the predictors have a better sense on listening to potential hit songs in comparison to their corresponding control groups. Copyright © 2010 by Cecil Munsey Munsey ––––––––––––––––––––- CODD BOTTLES ––––––––––––––––––––– Page 2 A Bottle… …is defined as a container with a neck that is narrower than the body and has a “mouth.” Bottles are often made of glass, clay, plastic, aluminum or other impervious materials, and are typically used to store liquids such as water, milk, soft drinks, beer, wine, cooking oil, medicine, shampoo, ink and chemicals. A device applied to seal the mouth of a bottle is termed an external bottle cap, closure, or an internal stopper such as the Codd bottle stopper featured in this monograph. The bottle has been developed over more than 1,000 years. Some of the earliest examples appeared in China, Phoenicia, Rome and Crete. In modern times bottles are a part of every culture. PART A THEN (19th and 20th Centuries) At first, carbonated drinks were contained in stoneware bottles, but these had a tendency to allow the gas to leak and consequently make the drink “flat.” As a result, makers began to use glass for their bottles. A problem with the glass bottles was that the pressure of the gas within the bottle could force the cork stopper out especially if the cork dried out. Most shopkeepers were reluctant to store the drinks on their side to keep the cork wet, so bottle manufacturers adopted a new shape devised by an Irishman, William Hamilton in 1809.
