We are delighted that Inés Powell, Met Lecturer, will be joining us. A native of Spain and expert on Spanish art and 17th-century European art, Inés blends her critical knowledge with her passionate personal relationship with art, and invites others to do the same. This is her third trip to Cuba for Travel with the Met.

In the afternoon, some of Havana’s leading artists welcome you into their homes and studios for a visit and conversation—and maybe an

Gather this morning for a lecture by a former ambassador that will give you an insider’s up-to-date perspective on contemporary Cuba. Then drive to Cuba’s leading art school, the Instituto Superior de Arte (ISA), for an opportunity to interact with professors and students and see their artwork. Lunch is in the village of Jaimanitas at the home and studio of artist José Fuster, creator of Fusterlandia, a fantastical neighborhood of more than 80 houses decorated with murals and domes to match his neighbors’ personalities. In the early evening, we have been invited to a private after-hours tour and reception at the Ceramics Museum, followed by dinner.

Attend an informal morning rehearsal of the Contemporary Dance Company of Cuba at the Teatro Nacional, adjacent to the Plaza de la Revolución. Then stroll through the Colón Cemetery, with its magnificently ornate monuments commemorating Cuban heroes, statesmen, poets, and musicians—including the lead singer of the Buena Vista Social Club. In the afternoon, additional artist visits have been arranged at Taller Gráfico, the print workshop near Plaza de la Catedral, and other studios. Later, attend a private concert with an opportunity to chat with the performers, followed by our farewell dinner.
