It was not until 1970 that a team competed under the name of Haringey Borough when WOOD GREEN TOWN who had played at Coles Park since 1930 changed their name to Haringey Borough. A merger with EDMONTON FC resulted in a brief change of name to Edmonton & Haringey FC until 1976 when the present name was re-adopted . After a period of instability and a year in the wilderness away from senior football they were admitted to the Spartan League in 1989 retaining Premier Division membership throughout until the South Midlands League merger in season 1997/98 when they finished 7th. in the Premier Division South to secure membership of the new “combined” Premier Division in 1998/99 as well as being runners up in the League’s Premier Division Cup. In 2004 after an unsuccessful attempt to move the Club to the nearby New River Sports stadium and a walk out of the existing Committee Aki Achillea who had commenced his association with the Club in 1995 was appointed to lead the Club forward and together with George Kilikita and Secretary John Bacon the club sought to engage more with the local community and tap into the talent locally. Youth teams were commenced and run successfully for many years at various age levels with some considerable success particularly at the older age groups including progress into the 2nd round proper of the FA Youth Cup in 2006/07. The Women’s Team, formed in 1999 were promoted to the top Division for 2002/03 of the Eastern Region Women’s League where they have have had notable success over the years. In 2005/06 they were losing League Cup finalists by the odd goal of seven in a thrilling contest with Norwich City Canaries. The senior men’s team having been relegated to Division One of the Spartan South Midlands League in 2006/7 bounced back with promotion at the very first attempt and a fine season ended with both promotion and the winning of the Division One Cup. Back in the Premier Division for the season 2008/09 the Club again quickly found itself among the relegation strugglers leading to the appointment of the current Manager – the vastly experienced Tom Loizou. Tom and his excellent loyal team of coaching staff have been instrumental in turning around the Club’s fortunes in the intervening years. In 2011/12 a highest ever 5th place was achieved and the League Challenge Trophy won. After massive stadium improvements in the close season with the erection of a new Clubhouse and new dressing rooms hopes were high for 2012/13 but the poor weather and the problematic pitch led to a massive fixture backlog which negated any chance of a serious challenge for honours and the Club finished 9th. In 2013/14 the Club’s challenge for promotion took place in the Essex Senior League following a sideways switch imposed by the FA. The Club had its most successful season ever finishing runners up by just a solitary point to Great Wakering Rovers and ended the season with 20 wins and one draw from the final 21 League games. The League title was nevertheless secured at the second attempt in 2014/15 with a haul of 103 points from 38 games and with it promotion to Step 4 in which we were allocated to the Ryman League Division One North. The first season at the higher level was a baptism of fire when only 7 points were garnered from the first 17 games but by the close of the season a further 43 points had been amassed from the remaining 29 games and the Club finished in a comfortable 15th place. The first season in the FA Trophy produced two fine victories before a replay loss to Hitchin Town of the Evostik South Premier Division. The summer of 2016 saw yet further investment in the close season in the form of a 3G synthetic main pitch and added improvements to the perimeter, the spectator rails and the floodlights and has created a facility of which the Club can be proud; and has afforded a greater opportunity for the Club to move forward in all aspects. The first team in 2016/17 improved markedly on the previous season and had an excellent all round campaign although rather unfortunate not to finish the season on a high having ended with the “double heartbreak” of missing out on promotion through a 4-5 closely fought semi final play-off defeat to Maldon & Tiptree FC after finishing 5th in the Division and an odd goal 2-3 London Senior Cup semi-final loss at Metropolitan Police. But 2017/18 was to be the Club’s best ever and culminated in promotion to Step 3 via the play-off route with a 3-1 win over Canvey Island after automatic promotion had been missed by just two points. And in FA Competitions the 4th and final round of the Qualifying rounds for the FA Cup was reached, although that ended in disappointment with a 2-4 home defeat by Heybridge Swifts who then enjoyed a visit to Exeter City in the First Round Proper. In the FA Trophy we went right through the qualifying campaign and were lucky enough to draw Leyton Orient in the First Round Proper which brought a record attendance of 1,133 to Coles Park and “The O’s” left mightily relieved at having come back to win 2-1 after going a goal down in the fifth minute. 2018/19 was to be the Club’s best ever season with an FA Cup run which took us into the First Round Proper where it was ended rather cruelly by AFC Wimbledon’s last minute goal at Coles Park in front of a record crowd of 2,710. Having led the Premier Division for several weeks in mid-season it was somewhat disappointing that we dropped from 2nd to 3rd on the last day of the season after a poor late run but still enjoyed home advantage in the Play-Off Semifinal in which a 45 minute second half onslaught on the Tonbridge Angels goal produced only one goal in response to the two they had scored before the interval. Last season’s early termination was less of a disappointment for us than for most other Isthmian Premier Division Clubs as we were marooned in mid-table with no realistic prospect of entering either the promotion or relegation zones. The highlight of the season should have been the visit of National League Yeovil Town in the Final Qualifying Round of the Emirates FA Cup but, as is well known, appalling crowd behaviour brought that game to an early end and the second game seemed something of an anti-climax. In fact, without making excuses, that unpleasant episode seems to have adversely affected our players for some time for, whereas we had been well in the promotion places mix, thereafter we just drifted downwards. 2016/17 saw the introduction of a much needed “second” team, formed to compete in the Ryman Development League it being basically intended for Under 21 players but with the facility to include up to 4 older players in every squad. The team held their own comfortably in the League finishing a very creditable 6th place and the benefits of the Club’s participation were all too evident with the introduction of a number of players into the first team squad throughout the season and the opportunity for first team squad players to keep fresh and those who were returning from injury had a platform to get fit. Thereby proving the benefits of having such a side. The age restriction was amended to Under 23 for 2017/18 and the team was always near the top of the table. In the 2017/18 season the Club also entered an Under 18’s Youth side into the Southern Counties Floodlit Youth League which will again provide a pathway for talented local boys to make their way into the first team squad and ultimately the first team itself. The team won its Divisional Championship in its debut season. The Women over the years have steadily improved and were extremely fortunate to have been approached midway through the 2013/14 season by renowned coach and former professional footballer Steve Browne who at the time was involved in the highly successful S & T Academy Girls football .Steve was duly appointed Manager and preserved the Women’s Premier Division status. In 2015/16 a mid table position was easily secured from an uneven campaign which included convincing away wins at the top 2 Clubs and some surprisingly disappointing performances against lower placed teams. Last season, by Christmas the team were runaway League leaders only to be thrown off course by the tragic early death of Steve on New Years Day but after a shaky period the Women re-asserted themselves to win the League Championship on the last day of the season and with it, promotion to the Women’s Premier League and followed that up by adding the League Cup with a 5-1 win over Cambridge City to complete the double. The best ever season for the Women and a fitting lasting legacy for their Manager. The loss of many of the successful squad, several to American University Scholarships proved too much of a handicap at the higher level and relegation back to the Eastern Regional League was an unsurprising outcome. The foundations are in place for an eventual assault on the title to secure a National League place for the men’s senior side and an exciting season is in prospect in which the ability to go one better and obtain promotion to the National League at the second attempt should be within the capabilities of our talented squad, The facilities and structures are in place for all the Club’s teams to improve and enhance on recent successes

Cray Wanderers have been in exile from the Cray’s since 1973 when they lost the Grassmeade ground in Chelsfield Road, due to housing development. They moved to Oxford Road, on the borders of Footscray and Sidcup, but when that ground was ruled to be unsuitable for Step 5 football (the Wands were then playing in the Kent League) it became necessary from 1998/99 to play first team matches at Hayes Lane, as tenants of FC. However, an off the field victory was obtained in March 2018 as approval by Bromley Council was granted for a new Football Stadium/Community Hub at Flamingo Park in Sidcup which on Monday 26th November received a further boost when approval was given by the GLA (Mayor of London) giving the green light to a bright future for the club and community. The 2018-19 season saw Cray Wanderers now playing in the newly formed Isthmian South-East and were crowned the first champions of the division on Saturday 13th April and Cray take their place in the Isthmian Premier next season after a five year absence. The first origins of Cray Wanderers are linked to the construction of the London, Chatham & Dover railway line during 1858 to 1860. During their leisure time, migrant workers kicked a ball around, and that is how the club originated in the St Mary Cray village. The pitch at Star Lane is now a cemetery, and is located beneath the nine-arch railway viaduct that spans the Cray Valley. The industrial belt of the River Cray, especially the paper mills, provided much of the club’s support up till the 1950s. Cray Wanderers were a strong force in senior county football at the turn of the century. After being Kent Junior Cup semi-finalists and finalists in 1890/91 and 1891/92 they entered the first ever FA Amateur Cup competition in 1893/94. They had a spell as a professional club between 1895 and 1907. They were a nursery club for Woolwich Arsenal during part of this period. They were one of the founder members of the Kent League in 1894/95, and they won the championship in 1901/02. Other honours included Southern Suburban League champions in 1898/99, West Kent League champions in 1903/04, and runners-up in 1899/1900. After World War One, Cray switched to the London League where they remained till 1934. In 1930/31 they won the Kent Amateur Cup. Cray rejoined the Kent League in 1934/35, but their four year stay came to grief when 1936 saw the loss of the Fordcroft ground in Cray Avenue, their home since 1898. Cray were forced to drop into a lower level of football, drifting from one temporary pitch to another while the club committee dwindled to a perilously small number. The team struggled badly in the South London Alliance and the Kent Amateur League. 1951/52 heralded a new era, and an upturn in the club’s fortunes, when local businessman Mick Slater took over at the helm. The club was elected to the London League and regained its senior status. Cray moved to a new ground at Grassmeade in 1955. Their stay there was a very successful period in the club’s history. Drawing extra support from the commuter town of Orpington, they played in the London League and then the Aetolian League. They were three times crowned champions, won the League Cup twice, and also won the Kent Amateur Cup three times. Cray switched to the semi-professional for five seasons commencing in 1966/67. In 1971/72 a merger of the Metropolitan League and the created the Met London League. Cray moved to Oxford Road in 1973/74. Johnny Biddle and Jimmy Wakeling proved to be successful managers. In 1974/75 Cray won the Met London League and League Cup, scoring 170 goals in all matches that season. In 1976/77 and 1977/78 Cray won the London Spartan League championship. Cray decided to return to the Kent League in 1978/79. Success came quickly because Cray won the championship in 1980/81, having been runners-up the year before. Their powerful new team under manager Harry Richardson reached the FA Vase quarterfinal and 5th round in those two seasons. After that, the 1980s decade brought only one more piece of silverware, the Kent League Cup in 1983/84. After finishing Kent League runners up in 1990/91, Cray had a lean period during most of the 1990s, with the exception of 1992/93 when they won the Kent Senior Trophy. A new club chairman Gary Hillman arrived in 1994/95 and Ian Jenkins, a Cray player since 1993, was appointed manager in 1999. By now, Cray were tenants of Bromley FC. As champions of the Kent League in 2002/03 and 2003/04, also reaching the FA Vase quarterfinal, they achieved promotion into the Ryman League Division One. Five years later at the end of season 2008/09 came further promotion into the Ryman Premier League, the highest level of football that the club has played at since the war. After parting company with long-serving manager Ian Jenkins, relegation into the Ryman Division One North came at the end of 2013/14. The 2014/15 season started with much optimism but this was soon dispelled with a run of difficult results and three changes in management. Looking very much like having to suffer back to back relegations at Christmas and with 10 games to go after suffering a home defeat to the eventual League Champions the Wands went on a 10 game winning run, with a team assembled by the then manager Tommy Warrilow to secure survival and became the Ryman North League Team of the Year. For 2015/16 The Wands were managed by former player Tony Russell. The Wands finished third in the Ryman North Division losing in the play-off semi final. Two years later and now in the Bostik League South they were beaten by Walton Casuals at the same stage after an excellent season saw Cray finish third and as top scorers with 112 goals. The 2018-19 season saw Cray Wanderers now playing in the newly formed Isthmian South-East and after a 15 game unbeaten start to the season the team were on their way and were crowned the first champions of the division on Saturday 13th April and Cray took their place in the Isthmian Premier after a five year absence. Cray were lying 2nd in the division on 7th March, 2020 but the continuing escalation of the Coronavirus led to the season being considered null and void. The move to the new ground is taking shape and grass pitches were laid for Cray Wanderers youth sides to play on while the main stadium is being built and the club are finally playing football at what will be their new home.

Proud Sponsors of Haringey Borough F.C Chairman - Haringey Borough FC

A warm welcome to everyone associated with Cray Wanderers for this afternoon’s match, our 7th home game out of the last 8 matches!! That does of course include three FA Cup matches and as you know we now face Maldon & Tiptree away next Saturday in the final qualifying round. Our opponents too are still in the Emirates FA Cup having won through on penalties and now face Canvey Island away. Both clubs I am sure will put behind them the prospect of entering the first round proper as we both seek to concentrate on what is the real goal of the season and that is promotion from the Isthmian league to the . Last season Cray were right up there in the vanguard chasing automatic promotion when the wheels came off for all of us. They have started the season as they mean to go on and are going to prove a very hard opponent to overcome today. Tom will talk more about the football side shortly. For my part I want to move on again and mention the supporters and to congratulate you on the way you have behaved in these difficult times and the tolerance you have shown and your support for what we are trying to do to ensure your safety when you attend. I am sure many of you heard that a “supporter“ complained to the police during the Bracknell game last Tuesday complaining of a lack of social distancing!! I am astonished and even more so as it appears that this individual also complained to the Council after the Leatherhead match a couple of weeks ago. Why anyone goes out of their way to attend a football match (come in free as regards Leatherhead!!!!) and then complain that they were uncomfortable in the environment they put themselves in is quite honestly anathema to me. What compounds matters is the complete misrepresentation of the true position. I have seen the efforts you have all gone to and your compliance with the rules we have put in place and to have someone take a single photograph at a particular angle and claim it is evidence of non compliance has really upset me. So many of us have put so many hours into devising plans and forwarding them to the league for approval and placing them on the website for you all to familiarise yourselves with that it really feels like a kick in the teeth when the local Council, who have no idea what we have done, respond with threatening letters after one single complaint. Over and above that the volunteer stewards that have offered their services to help us have been at pains to direct people to where they need to go and the rest of you have all adhered to such request without exception. To this individual I say do not come back, the likes of you are not wanted at this club. The benefit that I believe we have all felt since we re-opened the turnstiles has helped all of us get some relief and enjoyment in such an awful period in our lives and long may that continue. If the government take matters out of our hands so be it but I am determined to fight an individual who wants to try and wreck the enjoyment of so many. Enjoy the game today – come on Boro Aki Achillea - Chairman Haringey Borough F.C.

Manager - Haringey Borough FC

An unbelievable night last Tuesday, it brought those memories of two years ago flooding back, what an atmosphere you all created, what support you gave us through the second half to keep us going and make sure we did not allow a very good Bracknell side back into the game and what a joyous ending with those 3 goals in the final 15 minutes. I struggle to enjoy games which are tight and it was only when George scored the third that I began to relax and when Jorge Sambu and Daniel completed the scoring it was definitely time to smile, enjoy and take it all in. We have given ourselves an unbelievable chance to yet again get to the first round proper of the Emirates FA Cup. However in between then we have an extremely tough match that will go some way to define where we are at in terms of this league. So many strong teams this season and Cray have similar aspirations to ours. I watched Cray myself last Sunday against Bishops Stortford and despite the result they showed in patches what a seriously strong and powerful side they are. Still I know they watched us last Saturday and that was a superb performance and hopefully we have given them some food for thought. I am sure it will be a good game, we had two great matches with them last season and I expect nothing less today. I know that with the size of our squad now I can change a couple of players and rotate with these tough matches in store however I believe we have superb strength in depth this season which will help us at times like this. Get behind the boys again as you always do and we will try our very best for you - Enjoy the game, be respectful to the opposition as ever and be careful, stand apart and stay safe. Tom Loizou - Manager Haringey Borough F.C. THE SECRETARY’S MUSINGS

This afternoon we welcome the players, Officials and supporters of CRAY WANDERERS FC to the CVS Van Hire Stadium for this Pitching in Isthmian League Premier Division match. A warm welcome also, of course to our match officials who are Farai Hallam in the middle with Andreas Anastasiou and Colman O’Meara on the lines. Whatever the outcome we hope all will leave having enjoyed an entertaining afternoon’s sport and have a safe journey home. In first team League fixtures the teams have previously met only 3 times as last season’s home game was one of those unplayed at shut down time. Our early season visit to the Stadium of Bromley FC where they are ground sharers ended 1-1. The other two games were in season 2015/16 when we were both step 4 clubs and the scores were 0-0 at Coles Park while Cray were 4-2 winners of their home game and were promoted to the Premier Division at the end of that season. There have been knock out competition games, the most recent being last season for their visit in the 3rd Qualifying Round Emirates Cup Tie which we won by the only goal of the match. In the FA Vase of 1977/78 Borough won 2-1 away from home. The London Senior Cup has paired us together at least twice the most memorable occasion being our astonishing 5-0 win away (at Bromley) in 1999/2000. But in 2010/11 we returned from a 3rd Round game played at Beckenham Town‘s ground having lost by 3-0 Last Tuesday evening we were in Emirates FA Cup action at Coles Park when Bracknell Town visited us for a 3rd Qualifying Round tie. If a 5-1 scoreline suggests a casual cruise into the next round, nothing could be further from the truth, We were two up at the interval with both goals coming as a result of corners which the visitors failed to clear effectively allowing Rakim Richards (16th minute) and Bobson Bawling (41st) to drive home low shots. But Bracknell had shown how dangerous they could be and had twice planted the ball in our net only to have their joy cut short by a flagging Assistant and the referees spotting of a foul when a corner came over and was smashed home. Bracknell came out with all guns blazing in the second half and enjoyed early success, again as a result of a corner powerfully headed home by their central defender. For the next twenty minutes it was nail biting time, and really a penalty shoot out seemed quite a likely outcome, so great was the relief when we re-asserted ourselves and Georgios Aresti added some welcome insurance with a fine finish to a flowing move in the 76th minute. Even then Bracknell never stopped pressing and it was not until the 83rd minute when Jorge Djassi Sambu effectively settled the tie when he stabbed home from close range at the end of another well constructed attack that relaxation became possible. The icing on the cake was the final goal smashed into the net from the edge of the penalty area via the underside of the crossbar by Daniel Akindayini. So it is to the Wallace Binder Stadium of Maldon & Tiptree that we will be trekking next Saturday in the 4th and Final Qualifying Round. At the time of writing the ticketing arrangements for the match are unknown. Keep an eye on the haringeyboroughfc.net or .com websites for up to date information. Another knock out Competition draw has been announced and that is the London Senior Cup in the First Round of which we will be away to Phoenix Sports who play in Barnehurst (DA7 6JT) The only draw yet to be made known is that for the Buildbase FA Trophy and that will be revealed on Monday 19th as the last Round from which we have exemption is being played today AS A RESULT OF OUR BEING IN THE FINAL QUALIFYING ROUND OF THE COMPETITION OUR SCHEDULED HOME GAME AT CARSHALTON ATHLETIC ON MONDAY 19th HAS BEEN POSTPONED. NEXT FIRST TEAM AWAY GAME At HORNCHURCH on Tuesday 27th October 7.45pm The Stadium, Bridge Avenue, Upminster, Essex, RM14 2LX A short walk from Upminster Bridge District Line Underground Station The international break very rarely affects Non-League clubs, but Non-League is increasingly influencing the international scene. Each season we see more players deservedly earn moves into the Football League – and some even go on to reach the absolute peak. Over the last seven months the football pyramid has become even more divided, with ‘Project Big Picture’ now trying hard to increase the gap, but the importance of lower-league clubs to the product on the pitch has never been more obvious. Six players in Gareth Southgate’s latest squad have had stints in Non-League and there were five in the side Ryan Giggs picked for Wales when the two teams met last week. Nick Pope started the friendly fixture at Wembley having begun his career in the Eastern Counties League with Team Bury before progressing to Bury Town in the Isthmian League. Following his move to Charlton Athletic, Pope went on loan to Harrow Borough, Welling United, Cambridge United and Aldershot Town for more crucial experience of first team football. The back-up England keepers against Wales, Jordan Pickford and Dean Henderson, are also no strangers to Non-League. Pickford had loan spells at Darlington and Alfreton Town while Henderson played in goal for Stockport County just over four years ago when they were in . He’s also pushing to become Manchester United’s number one. Centre-back Tyrone Mings impressed in senior football at Yate Town and Chippenham Town in the Southern League before a successful trial at Ipswich Town forged the start of his top-flight career. Dominic Calvert-Lewin made his England debut, and scored, in the 3-0 win over Wales. A debut goal was nothing new to the Everton striker, as a 17-year-old he bagged on his first appearance for Stalybridge Celtic against Hyde on Boxing Day when Sheffield United sent him out for game time. On New Year’s Day, in the reverse fixture, he scored twice and set up three. Danny Ings also got in on the act at Wembley, scoring his first goal for his country via a bicycle kick. Ten years ago, he was netting in Non-League at Dorchester Town on loan from Bournemouth. Many others in the England squad either started or showed their talents in the lower reaches of the Football League before stepping up into the Premier League spotlight. Non-League football and its clubs play a vital role in developing players just as much as the top-flight academies – every player has a different path and their roots should not be forgotten. David Richardson CRAY WANDERERS UNITED FC PLAYER PROFILES 2019-20

CHARLIE ALLEN - Midfield - Charlie impressed with his energetic displays in midfield last season and made 36 appearances famously scoring twice at Enfield Town in January 2020 while playing as a makeshift striker. He also filled in at centre-half in the 2-1 win at Worthing in February 2020 and made 35 appearances last season. Charlie arrived at Cray in the summer of 2019 from Dulwich Hamlet. Charlie is the son of former QPR player Martin Allen and was a youth player at Reading and then Brentford when Martin was manager of the club. He then went to Dagenham & Redbridge where he became a first team player and then played in the Football League for Notts County and Gillingham. He then headed into non-league football with Tamworth on loan and then Margate, Farnborough, Reading City and Grays Athletic. He spent last season having spells at Greenwich Borough & Dulwich Hamlet. JASON BANTON - Winger - Jason is a newcomer to Cray Wanderers for the 2020-21 season following spells at Braintree Town and Romford last season. Jason is an experienced player with Football League experience after a spell at Liverpool as a youth player and was signed by Crystal Palace in 2012. He made his Football League debut for Plymouth Argyle on loan and later served MK Dons before leaving Palace to sign for Plymouth in 2014 where he made 38 appearances. He later played for Wycombe Wanderers, Hartlepool United, Notts County and Crawley Town before heading into non-league with Woking in 2017. Jason came to Cray as a trialist in the summer and made an eyecatching appearance against Bromley before scoring in the last pre-season game at Hayes & Yeading United. Jason is an exciting player and adds experience and quality out wide. LEWIS CAREY - Goalkeeper - Lewis signed for Cray Wanderers in the summer of 2019 from Lewes FC and had an exceptional first season with the club being an ever-present playing all 40 matches, the only player to do so. Jay had begun his career with Bethnal Green and then moved on to Aveley where he won their Player of the Year award in 2013-14 before moving dressing rooms to sign for Grays Athletic in August 2014. Made his Cray debut at Waltham Abbey in late January 2016 and made 16 appearances as Cray reached the playoffs. Hugely consistent and dangerous going forward Jay starred as Cray Wanderers reached the Isthmian South playoffs in 2017-18 and last season despite missing the early weeks of the season through injury came back to once again provide security at the back and helped Cray Wanderers win the Isthmian South-East title making 30 appearances scoring 3 goals and gain promotion to the Premier for 2019-20. Jay missed the early months of last season following nasal surgery and wearing his now trademark face mask made his 150th appearance for the club against Enfield Town at Hayes Lane and marked the occasion with a goal and also notched the winner at Enfield Town in January. He also won the Cray Wanderers Young Player of the Year. Last season Freddie spent loan spells at Whitstable Town and Whyteleafe but returned in pre-season, sharp and lithe and is set for big things in his career. Has been reverted to midfield and his potential is huge. He has made 67 appearances and scored 23 goals for the Wands. He carried on that great form in 2019-20 and has made 72 appearances over two seasons. As well as being a great player Bradley also founded the Sporting Way project which helps to encourage school children to fulfil their potential through self-development programmes. KYRON RICHARDS - Midfield - Kyron is a new arrival at Cray Wanderers having taken part in a trialist day on 1st August and impressed the management and coaching staff enough to take a look pre-season. Kyron can play in defence or midfield and starred for AFC Wakefield last season in the Sheffield and Hallamshire County Senior League and had previously been at Barkingside. Kyron impressed during pre-season scoring at VCD Athletic and could be a Cray Wanderers mainstay for many years such is his potential. MANAGEMENT

TONY RUSSELL - Manager - Tony came to Cray in the summer of 2015 after helping keep VCD Athletic in the Ryman Premier. His impact on the club was immediate taking a club that had faced relegation to the Southern Counties East League the previous season to top the league by Christmas was an outstanding achievement. Tony who played for Cray from the 2004-05 season, our first in the Ryman League, cut his teeth in management at Erith Town following a spell as Thamesmead Town player-coach. He took over at Erith Town in October 2010 winning the Kent Senior Trophy in his first season. He then went on to manage VCD Athletic two years later taking them to promotion from the Southern Counties East League as runners up to Erith and Belvedere. He then took the Vickers to the championship of the Ryman North and their first ever promotion to the Ryman Premier. Performed miracles to keep VCD from relegation with a six game winning run at the end of the 2014-15 season before departing to manage Cray in the summer. His first season at Hayes Lane saw Tony win two Manager of the Month awards and with a solid recruitment including Assistant Manager Ray Powell, coaching and medical staff and many of the VCD team took Cray to the top of the Ryman North by the end of 2015. In the end the team missed out on automatic promotion but a strong finish to the season meant a playoff place was achieved, Cray’s best season for a few years. In 2017- 18 Cray for the first time in the Isthmian League era scored over 100 goals in a season and played some superb football to finish third in the Bostik South last season before losing to Walton Casuals in the Semi-Final. That was soon forgotten as in 2018-19 Cray were crowned champions of the first Bostik South-East season and did so in his 200th game in charge against Ashford on 13th April. Tony is one of the great thinkers of the game, tactically astute and gives great opportunities to young players to play in the first team where some club managers aren’t willing to do so. Tony was voted Isthmian South-East Manager of the Year in 2018-19 and before lockdown affected last season had taken Cray up to 2nd in the Isthmian Premier and celebrated his 100th win as Cray manager at Merstham last season. JOE VINES - Player-Assistant-Manager/Defender - Joe arrived back at Cray Wanderers for a fourth time in July 2017 as Player Assistant Manager. A hugely gifted presence on the bench, Joe’s appointment has been a shrewd decision and part of a team which has reached the Isthmian South playoffs in 2017-18 and last season stormed to the very first Isthmian South-East title. Playing appearances these days are fewer but still a valued squad member. He first made an impact in the 2000-01 season when he was voted Player of the Year by the Wands supporters. He departed for a few years but returned to add steel alongside Mark Willy in the Bostik Premier in 2010-11 and played for three seasons. He finally returned to play for a handful of games in the 2015-16 season and made a big impression on the coaching staff. Overall Joe has played 96 games for the Wands scoring six goals. Joe has a wealth of playing experience for a number of clubs in Kent and South East London and Cray Wanderers are fortunate to have his expertise on the bench and an intelligent and innovative coach.
