Trip Philosophy • Provide a pleasant trip for everyone – students, chaperones, and staff. • Provide an opportunity to perform and put into practice the theories of music and marching learned in school. • Learn about a different environment. • Develop a sense of unity with the band and learn how the individual performance and behavior contribute to the band and how the total effort of the band affects the individual. • Provide a positive, profitable, musical, and educational experience for all Student Responsibilities • Understand the purpose of the trip and comply with the regulations and the spirit of the trip. • Thoroughly prepare music and marching and put forth the best possible effort. • Care for the uniforms, instruments, and equipment. • Cooperate with and abide by the director, staff, and chaperone instructions. • Be concerned with one’s personal health and rest and respect the rights of others. • Favorably represent the school and community Leader Responsibilities (Band Officers, Drum Majors, Section Leaders) • Assist the director in preparing for the performance o Ensure uniform marching execution o Ensure uniform marching posture o Ensure music preparation o Ensure uniform instrument positions o Ensure that the uniform is worn properly • Assist the band members with any difficulties • Motivate the band members by example 2 REPORTING PROCEDURE • We will be leaving directly after school. You will not have time to go home after you arrive at school in the morning of April 12, 2018 • You should have no luggage as that should already be stored in the band room Plan on car-pooling or getting dropped off in the morning. If you leave your car in the student lot, because there is no way you can get dropped off, it is recommended that a family member/friend/neighbor should come up and take your car back to your house, so you do not Tip! leave your car unattended all week at the high school parking lot. Luggage – ONE SUITCASE PER PERSON. Suitcases should be kept as small and as light as possible in order to avoid extra fees. (Suitcases weighing over 50lbs will be charged a $75-$100 fee depending on the airline. This fee will be your students expense). You are also allowed one carry-on (feel free to bring snacks and ways to stay entertained). Please put your name on your bags! A Bennett Student Travel tag will be provided to you. All bags will be checked and stored before the trip. It is your responsibility to check your bag at the airport. If you plan on buying souvenirs, leave enough room in your suitcase or carry-on! See packing items for a list of things to bring. Disney gift cards can be used to pay for most anything at Disney World, stalk up on gift cards ahead of time! Gift cards can be purchased through Bj’s, Costco and certain apps for a discounted Tip! price. Concert Attire – White on top, black on the bottom, black tie, black socks, black shoes. Concert attire should be packed so that it is easy to locate and preferably in a way to avoid wrinkles. We will be having an outdoor day-performance with the concert band. Since everyone will be dressed up for the concert, this would be a great opportunity for students to take pictures with everyone! Make sure to take plenty of pictures throughout the trip and submit them at the end of the year for our end-of-year slideshow. Record video with Tip! your phone turned horizontally since that’s the orientation used on computers and TVs. MarchinG Attire - FULL UNIFORM including gauntlets, gloves, black socks, black shoes, shako, and plume. Marching attire should be transported in a garment bag. We will be performing in a parade with the marching band most likely at night. Equipment – All equipment will be loaded on the trailer beforehand. All trip participants must help load the trailer so that it can be done quickly. It is your responsibility to load your own equipment, not your chaperone’s or your fellow band members. Room Captains will make sure all room members' have properly loaded their own equipment. 3 This includes making sure that any school-owned equipment that you will need gets loaded. Any school equipment that is damaged due to improper loading or left behind in Florida will be fixed/replaced at the student’s expense. Identification - All travelers are required to have a government issued ID. This includes a state ID, a driver’s license, or a passport. Travelers will be required to bring in their ID by March 7th, 2018. Keep this ID on you at all times while traveling. Parent Informational MeetinG – There will be two mandatory parent/student meetings for this trip. The informational meeting will be on March 8, 2017. There will be a meeting for final updates in February/March of 2018. These meetings will give parents the opportunity to ask questions concerning the trip. The staff will provide a complete overview of the trip itinerary, medical consideration, and outline student and parent expectations for the
