Program Note About After tryouts in New Haven and Philadelphia, My Fair Lady, starring Rex Harrison and Julie Andrews, opened on Broadway at the Mark Hellinger Theatre on March 15, 1956. Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe wrote the book and the score, adapted from George Bernard Shaw’s the famous play and Gabriel Pascal’s motion picture Pygmalion. The original production, one of Show... the most distinguished in the history of the musical theater, was directed by Moss Hart.
