The World’s First Corvette Club The President’s Corner - Jim Parisi August 2014 I would like to keep in our prayers all the members who have had surgery and health care issues. Jim Wade, we all hope for your quick and healthy recovery . I would also like to convey our sympathy to Pat Roney and family for the loss of his brother. Jon Thorn is continuing putting the information together about the history of the club. He has put together the first five years and continues his research and enthusiasm to make the club known to all as a club with the first roots. Paul from radial tire gave an excellent lesson on tire care, the differences and types, and why it is so impor- tant to use the correct one. He also donated a certificate of five hundred dollars to the lucky person with the right numbers. The club is coming even closer to the 2014 NCM Caravan leaving on the 23 of August. We will be starting off at Sport Chevrolet for the send off breakfast before taking to the road. I am looking forward to the event. Sport Chevrolet made a very generous donation to the cause. Jon Thorn and Ron Hamrah will be heading this event. Any questions or information should be directed to them. Corvettes at Carlisle is running right at the same time as the start of the caravan to the NCM. I need to know how many members will be attending so I can give the number to JoAnne at Carlisle. This is especially evident in recent years. The 1996 “split” between the Indy Racing League (IRL; later, the IndyCar Series) and Championship Auto Racing Teams (CART; later the Champ Car World Series) severely hurt the sport. Following the split there was a well-documented decline in fan interest from which the sport has not recovered. Less understood, however, is that under the Indy Racing League the Indianapolis 500, the premier event in open-wheeled racing in the United States, became more competitive. Ironically, while fan interest decreased in the Indy Racing League era, the quality of racing increased. The increased competition associated with the Indy Racing League is a historically significant development that bodes well for the future of the sport. -

IMS Museum Honoring Andretti's Legendary Career with Exhibit
IMS Museum honoring Andretti's legendary career with exhibit March 6, 2019 – The Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum will honor 1969 Indianapolis 500 winner Mario Andretti and his illustrious racing career with the exhibit, “Mario Andretti: ICON,” presented by Shell V-Power NiTRO+, opening to the public Wednesday, May 1. The exhibit is part of a comprehensive 50th anniversary celebration of Andretti’s victory at the Indianapolis 500. Andretti led 116 laps and delivered a popular, long-awaited victory for colorful car owner Andy Andretti with 1969 Indy 500 Granatelli, despite having to race in a backup car, battling race-long winning Brawner Hawk engine overheating issues and being forced to run all 500 miles on the same right-rear Firestone tire. “Mario Andretti: ICON,” presented by Shell V-Power NiTRO+, will bring together many of the most significant cars in Andretti’s career at the IMS Museum – cars which also represent significant milestones in motorsports history given Andretti’s accomplishments. The featured exhibits of “Mario Andretti: ICON,” are a full representation of the Nazareth, Pennsylvania, resident’s diverse career. The Orange Times Bruce McLaren Trust June / July 2014, Issue #2 Farewell Sir Jack 1926 - 2014 Along with the motorsport fraternity worldwide I was extremely saddened to th hear of Sir Jack’s recent passing on the 19 May. The McLaren family and Jack have shared a wonderful life-long friendship, starting with watching his early racing days in New Zealand, then Pop McLaren purchasing the Bobtail Cooper from Jack after the NZ summer racing season of 1957. For the following season of 1958, Jack made the McLaren Service Station in Remuera his base and brought the second Cooper with him from the UK for Bruce to drive in the NZIGP which culminated in Bruce being awarded the Celebrating 50 Years of “Driver to Europe”. Jack became his mentor and close friend and by 1959 McLaren Racing Bruce joined him as teammate for the Cooper Racing Team.
