REPORT TO THE COMMUNITY FISCAL PERIOD APRIL 1, 2017 - MARCH 31, 2018

EXCEPTIONAL COMMUNITY | OUTSTANDING CARE CLOSE TO HOME. FAR FROM ORDINARY.

CARDIOLOGY EXPANSION

Our vision for an expanded includes the expansion of our Department.

Three cardiologists serve this program today; due to increasing patient volumes and the opening of a pacemaker clinic, additional space is needed to accommodate a fourth cardiologist and vital cardiac care equipment. 902 TOTAL ECHOCARDIOGRAMS SECOND FROM LEFT – BETTY PRYOR PERFORMED IN 2018

“I went to Eagle Ridge ’s 24/7 Emergency suspecting it was my heart. I was right. While being assessed - it stopped beating. I awoke to chest compressions. Dr. Dehoney, one of Eagle Ridge Hospital’s first-rate cardiologists, and the emergency team saved my life. They assessed me and discovered I needed a quadruple bypass. Throughout the ordeal the ERH team took amazing care of not just me, but of my husband and daughters too. With kindness and care they made sure my family knew exactly what was happening every step of the way. My heart failed me, but Eagle Ridge Hospital definitely did not.”

1582 TOTAL CARDIAC RELATED VISITS TO THE EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT IN 2018 FOURTH FROM LEFT – SHARON PERRY

“Eagle Ridge Hospital gave us an extra 8.5 years with the greatest man in our world. He was selfless and gave everything to his family and community. As nurses and doctors you are not thanked enough. My family and I are hoping to demonstrate our thanks and appreciation by honouring my dad’s spirit through a pledge of $1,000,000 to expand the cardiology department at Eagle Ridge Hospital.”

2 GIVE. WHERE YOU LIVE.

EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT EXPANSION

The Emergency Department (ED), opened in 1988 and was built to serve 20,000 patients. It currently sees over 50,000 patients a year—20% of whom are children. ERH must evolve to meet the emerging health care needs of the community so that residents can continue to receive the care they need and deserve close to home.

When I arrived at Eagle Ridge Hospital, I went into full cardiac arrest. Attempts to revive me with CPR were unsuccessful. The Emergency physician on duty made a brave choice to open up my chest and use his hands to perform internal cardiac massage on my heart to get oxygen flowing through it. I was lucky – the ambulance decided to take me directly to the Emergency Department at Eagle Ridge Hospital to get immediate care rather than driving to another hospital. I have been told that decision – to take me to my community hospital – is what saved my life.”
