The Journal represents over twenty years of undergraduate excellence in the field communities. This may merely be preaching to the choir, making it difficult to convey the real urgency of international relations, and its distinguished reputation is certainly well-earned. This year’s articles we face as educators and practitioners to find new ways of understanding; new theories to account for continue the tradition of academic rigor, and are drawn from a pool of highly competitive submissions the ever-changing dynamics of the world; and new operational procedures for the delivery of solutions from around the world.     Expression of Language Etiquette in Russian Folktales Ildiko Csajbok-Twerefou, Department of Modern Languages, University of Ghana Yuriy Dzyadyk, Department of Modern Languages, University of Ghana Abstract Using different methods of analysis, this paper examines maxims of language etiquette, such as request, address forms and greetings in selected Russian folktales. Though language etiquette as a segment of politeness has its standards, it is dynamic, so it varies due to political, social, economic or cultural factors. Yet, folktales as a source of customs and beliefs, constitute an integral part of cultural heritage, serve as a means of upbringing, and play an important role in the linguistic development of a person. In Russia, expressions of politeness found in folktales are applied in accordance with the current requirements of Russian society. Keywords: Politeness, folklore, culture, language. Introduction Culture, traditions, language, and folklore are strongly related to each other and vary from nation to nation. Knowing the culture of a society, one may be acquainted with the traditions, language and folklore of that particular society, since culture encompasses all of them. The word folklore can be translated as “knowledge of people”. When referring to folklore in general, one may think about different genres, such as music, dance, tales, arts, crafts, etc. Usually, folklore is characterized by its collectiveness, since it is made on the earlier established traditions and standards of a society, taking into consideration its requirements and perceptions (Keszeg 2008). On the other hand, folklore is a piece of art, which exists not only by means of verbal units, but it often includes gestures, theatrical elements, dancing and singing.

    Jan 14 #1 Scuttlebutt from the Spermaceti Press Sherlockians (and Holmesians) gathered in New York to celebrate the Great Detective's 160th birthday during the long weekend from Jan. 15 to Jan. 19. The festivities began with the traditional ASH Wednesday dinner sponsored by The Adventuresses of Sherlock Holmes at O'Casey's and continued with the Christopher Morley Walk led by Jim Cox and Dore Nash on Thursday morning, followed by the usual lunch at McSorley's. The Baker Street Irregulars' Distinguished Speaker at the Midtown Executive Club on Thursday evening was James O'Brien, author of THE SCIENTIFIC SHER- LOCK HOLMES: CRACKING THE CASE WITH SCIENCE & FORENSICS (2013); the title of his talk was "Reassessing Holmes the Scientist", and you will be able to read his paper in the next issue of The Baker Street Journal. The William Gillette Luncheon at Moran's was well attended, as always, and the Friends of Bogie's at Baker Street (Paul Singleton, Sarah Montague, and Andrew Joffe) entertained their audience with a tribute to an aged Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson. The luncheon also was the occasion for Al Gregory's presentation of the annual Jan Whimsey Award (named in memory of his wife Jan Stauber) honoring the most whimsical piece in The Serpentine Muse last year; the winners (Susan Rice and Mickey Fromkin) received certificates and shared a check for the Canonical sum of $221.17. And Otto Penzler's tradi- tional open house at the Mysterious Bookshop provided the usual opportuni- ties to browse and buy. The Irregulars and their guests gathered for the BSI annual dinner at the Yale Club, where John Linsenmeyer proposed the preprandial first toast to Marilyn Nathan as The Woman.

Here is the 2017 summer newsletter, containing information on events in the department, political humor, bios of alumni, and notes on the activities and accomplishments of our students. The department is thriving, there are now more than 500 Political Science and International Relations. I do not know if this high number represents the fabulous professors within the department or the politically interesting times in which we live. We continue to send students all over the world for study-abroad experiences (and we bring most of them back), and students are engaged in a large number of academic and co- curricular activities. Her laugh is more like a donkey's bray than tinkling bells, she trips over her own feet and she does not like Prince Jorge, whom her mother hopes she will marry. But if Emma ever thought to escape her troubles, she never expected it to happen by turning into a frog! When convinced to kiss a frog so he might return to being a prince, somehow the spell is reversed and Emma turns into a frog herself! Thus begins their adventure--a quest to return to human form.
