Central California Athletic League Appendix J-2

CCAL All-League Selection Process for All Team (Other Than ). Those Sports Include: , (Boys/), , Soccer (Boys/Girls), & Water (Boys/Girls)

1. NOMINATIONS # FORMULA: (Total # of League Teams) + (Total # of Players the field/court within their respective ) divided by 2 • With the CCAL Team Sports all moving to a 10 league schedule (other than Baseball/Softball), all CCAL Athletic Directors have agreed to the following: Depending on the of players that start the game (Baseball – 9, Softball – 9, Basketball – 5, Soccer – 11, Volleyball – 6 & – 7), that number is added to the number of league teams (CCAL has 6 – Downey, Enochs, Gregori, Modesto, Pitman & Turlock) and than you divide that # by 2 and round up if necessary. That number is the total number of nominations that a can make if they finished in first place. That number diminishes by one for every spot you move down in league rankings. Example: Basketball adds 6 (Number of league teams) to 5 (Players on the court for their respective team) which makes 11 and divide by 2. The number you get is 5.5 so you round up to 6. For Boys/Girls Basketball, 1st place gets 6 nominations, 2nd place gets 5 and so on. This number will vary from sport to sport as certain team sports have more players as part of the game than others. This guarantees that every league member gets at least one nom. • All CCAL nominations must be submitted to their respective sports CCAL League Rep for their respective sport by the designated date/time prior to all league meeting. • All coaches have the opportunity and the right to designate a player as only to be considered for “2nd Team” and/or “honorable mention” when they submit their nominations to the league rep prior to meeting.

2. “Special Awards” at CCAL All League Meeting: • Special Awards are voted on at All League Meeting first. • Players winning special awards will be placed on First Team All-League Team. • A player receiving a “Special Award” will not be eligible for any other All-League awards. • “Coach of the Year” & “MVP” will be the first awards to be voted on. • MVP can only come from one of the top three teams in league. If there was a tie for 3rd place, those teams may put up a MVP. • Offensive Player of the Year. • Defensive Player of the Year (This award is also known as of the Year) • Baseball & Softball both will include a “Pitcher of the Year” Award.

3. Voting Process: • Coaches may vote for their own player until the field has been narrowed to two candidates. • If there are only two players put up, the two nominated schools will not vote. If three or more players are put up than, all schools will vote. • MVP Voting/Special Awards: If three or more players are nominated, the first vote or even second vote will be to eliminate all candidates until only two remain, and then a final vote will take place to determine the Special Awards. • Vote off all ties. If still tied after the re-vote, the player with the oldest year (senior over junior etc.) will win the award. In a 7 team league, the odds of a tie are remote. If still tied, the award goes to the player who played on the highest ranked league team. • Voting is done by secret ballot. • Every coach must bring stats (MAX PREPS) from CCAL LEAGUE PLAY ONLY for all the CCAL coaches in attendance. Be advised that this process will not based on any other stats other than CCAL League Play. • 1st Team nominees will be verbally presented by their nominating coach. After the coach has presented his player for a 2nd time during any of the remaining “All League Selection Process”, no more verbal presentations will be permitted. • 2nd Team nominees may only be presented by their coach if it’s their 2nd presentation and/or they were not presented during the 1st Team process. It is our contention that once a player has been presented by their coach for a 2nd time, no other presentations are needed, and it will help speed up the evening’s proceedings.

4. CCAL Team Sports All League Positions using Baseball as an Example: • Special Awards: MVP, Offensive Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, & Pitcher of the Year. • 1st Team All-League Spots: 14 Positions (4 Special Awards & 10 All-League). • 2nd Team All-League Spots: 9 Positions. • Honorable Mention: 6 Spots. Each individual school puts up one of their players. No voting. “How do we get to the nomination number” Process:

SPORT # of League Teams # of Players on Court/Field/Pool Math Max Nominees for one team for this Sport

Baseball 6 9 6 + 9 divided by 2 7.5 > 8

Basketball (Boys) 6 5 6 + 5 Divided by 2 5.5 > 6

Basketball (Girls) 6 5 6 + 5 Divided by 2 5.5 > 6

Softball 6 9 6 + 9 Divided by 2 7.5 > 8

Soccer (Boys) 6 11 6 + 11 Divided by 2 8.5 > 9

Soccer (Girls) 6 11 6 + 11 Divided by 2 8.5 > 9

Volleyball 6 6 6 + 6 Divided by 2 6

Water Polo (Boys) 6 7 6 + 7 Divided by 2 6.5 > 7

Water Polo (Girls) 6 7 6 + 7 Divided by 2 6.5 > 7

1. How you finish in league determines your number of nominations. 2. Example – Baseball: Max Number of Nominations for the 1st place team is 8 1st Place Team = 8 Nominations 2nd Place Team = 7 Nominations 3rd Place Team = 6 Nominations 4th Place Team = 5 Nominations 5th Place Team = 4 Nominations 6th place Team = 3 Nominations 3. Sports who have more players on the Field/Court/Pool will start with more nominations. 4. Formula for Determining # of First Team All-League awards per sport is - Total number of players on one team who start on the Field/Court/Pool (+) Total # of Special Awards (MVP/Offensive POY/Defensive POY) and that gets you the total #. Example – Basketball: 5 (Starters) + 3 (Special Awards) = 8 Total First Team Awards. a. Baseball = 14 b. Basketball (Boys/Girls) = 8 c. Soccer (Boys/Girls) = 14 d. Softball = 14 e. Volleyball = 9 f. Water Polo (Boys/Girls) = 10 5. 2nd Team is simple (Total # of players who start for one team on the Field/Court/Pool) is the respective number for that sports total of 2nd Team All-League Awards: a. Baseball = 10 b. Basketball (Boys/Girls) = 5 c. Soccer (Boys/Girls) = 11 d. Softball = 10 e. Volleyball = 6 f. Water Polo (Boys/Girls) = 7 6. Honorable Mention is simple. The Coach selects one of their players from their team. No Voting.
