One, unexpected, on Loch Poit Nah-L near Fionnphort. 1/1 Common Shelduck Tadorna tadorna ! Includes records that may be historic only and species that are now thought to be extinct in Wales (e.g. Conformist). Compiled by Butterfly Conservation Wales using lists supplied by County Moth Recorders. Complete with records up to and including 2019 (2019 new records marked as such). Covers the 13 Welsh vice-counties: Monmouthshire (VC35), Glamorgan (VC41), Breconshire (VC42), Radnorshire (VC43), Carmarthenshire (VC44), Pembrokeshire (VC45), Cardiganshire (VC46), Montgomeryshire (VC47), Merionethshire (VC48), Caernarvonshire (VC49), Denbighshire (VC50), Flintshire (VC51) & Anglesey (VC52). The dataset published herein contains the label data for all North American specimens of Hepialidae residing at the Oregon State Arthropod Collection as of March 2019. A beta version of these data records will be made available on the OSAC server (http://osac.oregonstate.edu/IPT) at the time of this publication. The beta version, entitled, OSAC_Heplialidae_2019_ver_beta will be replaced in the near future with an official release (OSAC_Hepialidae_2019_ver_1.0), which will then also be archived as a supplemental file to this publication. Methods Basic digitization protocols and metadata standards can be found in (Shepard et al. 2018). Identifications were made by Jon Shepard with reference to an unpublished key to the PNW Hepialidae Wagner (1983). -

Fonseca1,2* Forest habitats host enormous diversity, but little is known about the seasonal turnover of arthropod species between the above- and below ground forest layers. In this study, we used metabarcoding approaches to uncover arthropod diversity in diferent forest types and seasons. Our study shows that metabarcoding soil eDNA and Malaise trap bulk samples can provide valuable insights into the phenology and life cycles of arthropods. We found major diferences in arthropod species diversity between soil samples and Malaise traps, with only 11.8% species overlap. Higher diversity levels were found in Malaise traps in summer whereas soil samples showed a diversity peak in winter, highlighting the seasonal habitat preferences and life strategies of arthropods. We conclude that collecting time series of bulk arthropod samples and eDNA in the same locations provides a more complete picture of local arthropod diversity and turnover rates and may provide valuable information on climate induced phenological shifts for long-term monitoring. Forests are known to be one of the most diverse habitats on earth, providing a vast range of ecological niches, resulting in outstanding arthropod diversity 1. Forests can be roughly divided into two habitats: the ground and the above ground layer, with both closely linked to each other by mutual relationships of the associated abiotic and biotic environment2. Some studies have shown how biotic interactions in soil can regulate the structure and functioning of aboveground communities. -

Summary Located in the Parish of Pamber, Little London is a Biodiversity hotspot with New Road at its environmental heart. Despite the name New Road is one of the oldest highways in the village and this is reflected in the range of wildlife found along its length, and in the countryside bordering it. New Road has significance for wildlife far beyond is narrow, single-track status. Its ancient hedgerows and adjacent meadows are rich in wildlife but of equal importance is its role as a corridor of wildlife connectivity. -

1 OHBR Annotated Checklist: Butterflies & Moths Outer Hebrides Annotated Checklist: Butterflies & Moths Over 2500 species have been recorded in the British Isles and so far, 552 moths and 17 butterflies appear in the Outer Hebrides checklist. This is not a definitive list; it does not include species recorded in literature or in museum collections, and although moths and butterflies are well documented in comparison with other insects, we are still adding new species to the list. This annotated version of the checklist has been created for biological recorders to provide additional information on the status and recorded flight times of the species within the islands. Species which are flagged in red require care in their identification and additional information may be required from the recorder if the record is submitted to OHBR. If you record a species not currently listed, and submit your record to OHBR you will be requested to supply further information on how the species was identified to enable us to verify the record.
