Fun Stops and Side Trips Along Interstate 80 Highway

Interstate 80 Highway runs along the upper portion of the from , to New York, New York and passes through , , , , , , , and . Here are some of the highlights you can find along I-80.

California

 Pacific Pinball Museum (Alameda) – Show your kids the old school version of video games. Kids of all ages will find fun and amusement in the relics of days gone by.

 Empire Mine State Historic Park (Grass Valley) - It would be impossible to think of California and not think of the Gold Rush. Hike, bike or horseback ride through the park and see much of the original owner’s cottage and mine buildings.

Nevada

 Fleischmann Planetarium (Reno) – Stop and see the stars! This Planetarium is part of the University of Nevada, which offers public star shows and films inside their dome theater.

 Love Lock Plaze (Lovelock) – This may not be Lover’s Bridge in Paris, France, but it may be a close second. Lovers lock up their love (attach a padlock to a fence) and throw away the key. Unique way to display your love.

Utah

 George S Eccles Park (Ogden) – Prehistoric giants come to life through the use of robotics and sound effects. See sculptures of crawlers, predators, marine animals and flying reptiles. Cool!

 Utah Olympic Park () – This venue was center stage for the 2002 Winter Olympics and still functions as a training facility for Olympic athletes. Fun to see a slice of Olympic history right in our own backyard.

Wyoming

Gunslingers (Cheyenne) – Nothing like a real live Western show with gunslingers to entertain. Gunfights and western skits come to life in historic downtown Cheyenne.

Nebraska

 German POW Camp (Concordia) – Site of where 300,000 German prisoners of war were held during World War II. A piece of history found in the heart of Nebraska.

 Strategic Air & Space Museum (Ashland) – 300,000 square feet of the best aviation has to offer and where the past inspires future generations to aim high.

Iowa

 Herbert Hoover National Historic Site (West Branch) – Witness the humble beginnings of our 31st president. Born in a two-room cottage and orphaned at nine, he is quoted as referring to his birthplace as "physical proof of the unbounded opportunity of American life."

 Amazing Maize Maze® (Princeton) – Corn is plentiful in this portion of the country, so what better place than Iowa to experience the first ever cornfield maze. This should run off some of the pent up energy after a long day of driving.

Illinois

 Mount Carmel Cemetery (Hillside) – A cemetery may not seem like a desired pit stop, but with famous gangsters such as Al Capone, the Genna Brothers and “Machine Gun” Jack McGurn buried there, it could be an interesting diversion from the highway.

 Navy Pier () – Ah Chicago, what a city! There is certainly no shortage of sights and sounds, oh and flavors to take in while visiting Chicago, but be sure to visit the Navy Pier for boundless entertainment. Food, entertainment, shopping, street performers and so much more. This is one stop you won’t want to miss.

Indiana

 Michael Jackson’s House (Gary) – Visit the boyhood home of the King of Pop, Michael Jackson. Sounds like it may be a tamer version of Elvis’ Graceland.

 Notre Dame Stadium (South Bend) – The pride of South Bend is the and the pride of Notre Dame is their football team the “Fighting Irish”. Iconic structure in the world of college football.

Ohio

 Merry-Go-Round Museum (Sandusky) – Merry-Go-Rounds light up the eyes and hearts of kids of all ages. The history of how colorful horses, brass rings and distinctive tunes all came together to create the iconic carousel are housed at this museum.

 A Christmas Story House and Museum () – Don’t worry, no one will be getting their eye shot out at this museum, but you can relive the fun moments of this Christmas classic by viewing original props and costumes, including the leg lamp and Randy’s snowsuit.  Punxsutawney Weather Discovery (Punxsutawney) – There really is more to weather forecasting than having a ground hog see his shadow. The center offers something for everyone through interactive science exhibits.

 Yuengling (Pottsville) – Enjoy a tour of the oldest operating brewery in the United States. Tours of the brewery are free to the public. See the hand-dug fermentation caves that were used for storage prior to the invention of refrigeration. Of course, you must also sample the product while you are there.

New York

 Statue of Liberty (New York) – The symbol of freedom and democracy that stands tall for all to see, this beautiful statue is something to behold.

 Ground Zero (Manhattan) – A sobering reminder of the events of September 11, 2001.
