Volume : 103 Issue No. : 103 Month : February, 2009 Your worst days are never so bad, that you are beyond the reach of God's grace. Your good days are never so good that you are beyond the need of God's grace. Hands that help are holier than lips that pray. TEMPLES COURT PROCEEDINGS ABOUT RISHABH DEV TO BE CONDUCTED BY JUSTICE S. B. SINHA The Supreme Court of India has constituted a bench on the two writ petitions to look into the raging controversy about the control over Shri Rishabh Dev temple near Udaipur in Rajasthan. The bench headed by the Chief Justice Shri K. G. Balakrishan had earlier issued notices to the State Government and others on the 14th may, 2007. The newly constituted bench will now consider the public interest petitions, which have requested that the notifications issued on the 20th January, 07 by the Assistant Commissioner, Devasthan Deprtment, Government of Rajasthan may be withdrawn, in which proposals were invited from the interested persons to form a management committee for the control of Rishabh Dev temple. As is well known, the issue is about the controversy, whether it is a jain temple or Hindu temple. The Raj. High Court had earlier given a decision that it is a Jain temple. After considering the whole matter, the Supreme Court had also agreed that it was a Jain temple. The apex court had later asked the Devasthan Department, State Government and the concerned parties as to why the matter be not reconsidered and why a district Judge be not appointed to enquire into the whole matter once again.

  • Diwa Li and Jainism
October, 2016 Vol. No. 195 Ahimsa Times in World Over + 100000 The Only Jain E-Magazine Community Service for 14 Continuous Years Readership DIWA LI AND JAINISM Diwali has a very special significance in Jainism. It marks the anniversary of Nirvana of Mahavira's soul, the twenty fourth Jain Tirthankara of present cosmic age. It is celebrated at the same time as the Hindu festival of Diwali. Diwali marks the New Year for the Jain group and it likewise remembers the passing commemoration of their 24th Tirthankara Mahavira and his achievement of moksha. Mahavira attained Moksha on this day at Pavapuri on Oct. 15, 527 BCE, on Chaturdashi of Kartika, as confirmed by Tilyapannatti of Yativrashaba. Mahavira, the 24th Tirthankara of this era, revitalised Jain dharma. According to tradition, the chief disciple of Mahavira, Ganadhara Gautam Swami also attained complete knowledge (Kevala Jnana) on this day, thus making Diwali one of the most important Jain festivals. Mahavira attained his nirvana at the dawn of the amavasya (new moon). According to the Swetamber text Kalpasutra, many gods were present there, illuminating the darkness. The following night was pitch black without the light of the gods or the moon. To symbolically keep the light of their master's knowledge alive, 16 Gana-kings, 9 Malla and 9 Lichchhavi, of Kasi and Kosal, illuminated their doors. They said: "Since the light of knowledge is gone, we will make light of ordinary matter" (" Rc aW c, [ W cè Pःb ". Dipavali was mentioned in Jain books as the date of the nirvana of Mahavira.

  • 1.6 Impacts of Tourism
PREFACE In the curricular structure introduced by this University for students of Post Graduate Diploma programme, the opportunity to pursue Post Graduate Diploma course in subjects introduced by this University is equally available to all learners. Instead of being guided by any presumption about ability level, it would perhaps stand to reason if receptivity of a learner is judged in the course of the learning process. That would be entirely in keeping with the objectives of open education which does not believe in artificial differentiation. Keeping this in view, study materials of the Post Graduate level in different subjects are being prepared on the basis of a well laid-out syllabus. The course structure combines the best elements in the approved syllabi of Central and State Universities in respective subjects. It has been so designed as to be upgradable with the addition of new information as well as results of fresh thinking and analysis. The accepted methodology of distance education has been followed in the preparation of these study materials. Co-operation in every form of experienced scholars is indispensable for a work of this kind. We, therefore, owe an enormous debt of gratitude to everyone whose tireless efforts went into the writing, editing and devising of a proper lay-out of the materials. Practically speaking, their role amounts to an involvement in invisible teaching. For, whoever makes use of these study materials would virtually derive the benefit of learning under their collective care without each being seen by the other. The more a learner would seriously pursue these study materials the easier it will be for him or her to reach out to larger horizons of a subject.
