Oasis: Whats the Story charity shops wont accept cassette tapes anymore! Whats next, vhs tapes? Its money down the drain imho and a waste of plastic just to line the pockets of the men Oasis: Whats the Story suits. At least you can put the silver vinyl in a frame and pretend its an award, so the re-re-re-release does have Oasis: Whats the Story uses! There have been loads of demos floating around for years, and the addition of a full live set would be a welcome addition too maybe an official release of the much bootlegged finsbury park gig? Been into oasis from the start and have all the original albums and 12 inches on vinyl. The 90s really were the days. Never, I fear. The Stone Roses are worse than Duran Oasis: Whats the Story for not caring about their legacy. Would it sell? Very few albums are worthy of such deluxe treatment, but that album is definitely one of them. Certainly beats any of the Oasis albums by a country mile. At the very least, an official CD release of the show would be appreciated. Top marks for endurance to anybody Oasis: Whats the Story listened to all of the demos. Absolutely atrocious. Some demos really should stay locked Oasis: Whats the Story the vault. I doubt the stone roses will ever release a full live set from the tour. Despite Ian Oasis: Whats the Story actually having singing lessons running up to the tour, they would never be able to get away with releasing a 2cd or dvd set with his voice! Brilliant live band, shame Ian was a vocal mess. Oasis have only done the first three albums so far. So, Oasis MG reissue for the 2nd time? Everybody complains! They are just milking the fanbase! Take my money Now!!! Oh dear! No coloured vinyl or anything like that until today. My God, I walked with a swagger for months when I would set off of a day with that in my Walkman :. Strange that artists are reissuing their music on cassettes. And for the younger generation, they are all about downloads. I think any music issued beforeyou could find a cassette for them really cheaply. Besides, who in their right mind would want to transfer anything but otherwise-unavailable media from cassette to FLAC? File share?! The cassette is just something for collectors to collect! My love of the Beatles precluded me from ever being able to have much time for Oasis and my opinion has only hardened over the years. Even I bought this when it came out though and have thought about getting the reissue. If ever an album needed remastering it is this one. Can anyone tell me if the remaster is actually an improvement or is it as still as subtle as a sledgehammer on the ear? The remasters were appalling. All three albums are brick walled even more esp the third than they were first time round; which was quite a feat. They desperately need remastering properly. The brickwalling is still in place for the remaster. Which is likely the version used for the new picture disc. According Oasis: Whats the Story this list, you might be better off finding a copy of the SACD fromand downmixing the 5. Also, amusingly, someone has created a BrickwallHater remaster of . Guessing that the original mixes were so loud, that any attempt to remaster them for better dynamic range would be ineffective. Why does loving The Beatles make one not have time for Oasis? They never really sounded that much like them, much as the press liked to pretend they did. I actually think Oasis have done a pretty good job of not milking their legacy. A b-sides compilation and a best-of whilst they were still together, a singles collection after the split, only one live album, then the 3 expanded remasters years later. There is Oasis: Whats the Story lot more they could put out. How many times do they want us to dip into our pockets to buy yet another copy of this album? Talk about flogging a dead horse. Oasis are my only past musical fascination which I no longer understand — what on Earth made my think they were good? Except they insisted on putting a space in the postcode and PP does not have that. Definitely Maybe was released last year on double picture disc to celebrate its 25th anniversary. A couple of months ago it was suddenly available for LRSD, so unless it is a repress, I would guess it is the same pressing made more available and therefore not a Store exclusive as advertised. I was a huge Oasis fan across their first few years went to Maine Road and Oasis: Whats the Story Lomond and loved Morning Glory so much at the time after a carload of us drove to our local Woolies on a sixth form dinner break to each but it. Listened to it for the first time in years the other week courtesy of 6Music and came away underwhelmed. A little yellowed Oasis: Whats the Story the edges, but a time capsule to my teenage years! Great times. Happy days indeed. I was more a fan of Be Here Now which contrary to the reviews Oasis: Whats the Story the time I thought was tremendous and I still do. Wish I could bottle that feeling from hearing Oasis: Whats the Story those first few times and realising how fantastic they were. For me, I thought they tailed off badly from album 3 onwards and I find them difficult lyrically to listen to these days. But Oasis: Whats the Story oh Oasis: Whats the Story, those first few years felt special. I was at that gig also, yes black grape Supported and Oasis: Whats the Story band which fronted before he joined oasis. I thought it was the same thing. What's the Story Morning Glory? Released on 2 October by Creation Recordsit was produced by Owen Morris and the group's guitarist and main songwriter . The structure and arrangement style of the album were a significant departure from the group's previous album Definitely Maybe Gallagher's compositions were more focused in balladry and placed more emphasis on "huge" choruses, [5] with the string arrangements and more varied instrumentation contrasting with the rawness of the group's debut album. The record propelled Oasis from being a crossover indie act to a worldwide rock phenomenon, and is seen by critics as a significant record in the timeline of British indie music. Over several months in andthe band performed an extensive world tour in support of the album. Among the most notable of these concerts were back-to-back nights at Earls Court in London in Novemberwhich were the biggest ever indoor gigs in Europe at the time. They also performed two "homecoming" gigs at Maine Road in Manchester in April In August of that year, the band played to 80, people over two nights at Balloch Country Park in Scotland. A week later, they held what is arguably their most famous concert when they played two consecutive nights at Knebworth to a combined crowd ofpeople. For the Knebworth performance, it is believed that approximately 2. Although a commercial success, the record initially received lukewarm reviews from mainstream critics; many reviewers deemed it inferior to Definitely Maybewith the songwriting and production particular points of criticism. However, critical opinion towards the album completely reversed in the ensuing years, and it is now generally considered a seminal record of both the era and the s in general, as well as appearing on several lists of the greatest albums in rock music. Despite the friction between the Gallagher brothers, Owen Morris reflected in that: "The sessions were the best, easiest, least fraught, most happily creative time I've ever had in a recording studio. I believe people can feel and hear when music is dishonest and motivated by the wrong reasons. Morning Gloryfor all its imperfection and flaws, is dripping with love and happiness. Morris claimed the album was recorded in 15 days, at a pace of one song a day. The backing track was faster Oasis: Whats the Story intended, with what Morris described as "a really bad speed up during the first three bars of the first chorus", but the take had to be used because those involved were impressed with Liam's vocals, and Morris had to mix the track three times, using delay and other processing to hide the mistakes. It's astonishing. It's the Bollocks for this decade. It's gonna speak to real, working class lads in a way that a Suede or Radiohead could only dream of doing. The brickwall mastering technique utilised during the recording of the album has led to some journalists claiming that it was responsible for initiating the loudness waras its heavy use of compressionfirst widely used by Morris on Definitely Maybewas leaps and bounds beyond what Oasis: Whats the Story other album up until then had attempted. Music journalist Nick Southall, who has written extensively on the loudness war, commented, "If there's a jump-the-shark moment as far as CD mastering goes then it's probably Oasis. John Harris commented in his music history Britpop! One song, "Step Out", bore such a close resemblance to the song " Uptight Everything's Alright " by Stevie Wonder that it was removed from the album shortly before release due to the threat of legal action. This occurs through the narrative structure of the song, vocal production, and the conventions of the singer's cultural context. Noel Gallagher summed up his own perspective on the album's aesthetic in an interview with Rolling Stone in ; "Whilst [ Definitely Maybe ] is about dreaming of being a pop star in a band, What's the Story is about actually being a pop star in a Oasis: Whats the Story. The use of string arrangements and more varied instrumentation in songs such as "Don't Look Back in Anger" and "Champagne Supernova" was a significant departure from the band's Oasis: Whats the Story. This style had first been implemented by the band on their fifth single, " Whatever ", released in December It was produced in conjunction with the London Symphony Orchestra, resulting in a much more pop-oriented and mellower sound; this would be the template that Oasis: Whats the Story come to define many of the songs on What's the Story. The cover is a picture of two men passing each other on Berwick Street in London. The album's producer Owen Morris can be seen in the background, on the left footpath, holding the album's master tape in front of his face. While " Some Might Say ", a number one hit, had been released in April, the single chosen to precede the album's release was " Roll with It ", planned for release on 14 August, six weeks before the album was due to hit the shelves. This was an Oasis: Whats the Story method for the time, contrasting the standard industry procedure of releasing the lead single three weeks before its parent album. As a reaction, Oasis: Whats the Story Records pushed the release of "Country House" back a week and thus started what became known as " The Battle of Britpop ". The Oasis: Whats the Story triggered an unprecedented amount of exposure for both bands in Oasis: Whats the Story newspapers and on television news bulletins, supposedly symbolising the battle between the middle class of the south and the working class of the north. In the event "Country Oasis: Whats the Story outsold "Roll Oasis: Whats the Story It" by 54, and topped the singles chart for a fortnight. Overall singles Oasis: Whats the Story that week were up by 41 percent. During a promotional interview in September, the month before the album was released, Noel spoke about the rivalry with Damon Albarn and Alex James from Blur, and was quoted in 17 September edition of The Observer saying he hoped "the pair of them would catch AIDS and die because I fucking hate them two. They weren't pretending to like us and then slagging us off, which is what we'd been used to. In that way, I quite appreciated them. On 2 Octoberto mark the 23rd anniversary of the album release, a new lyric video for the track "She's Electric", described as being "loaded with psychedelic imagery", was published on the band's YouTube VEVO channel. The album sold quickly; the Daily Express reported the day after release that central London HMV stores were selling copies of the album at a rate of two per minute. In total, the album did not leave the top three for an astonishing seven months. In addition, by the time of its one-year anniversary in October the album had remained in the top ten for all but one week. Eventually the album had a five-week run at the top of the Australian albums chart and an eight-week run at the top of the New Zealand albums chart before Oasis: Whats the Story charts in Canada, Ireland, Sweden and Switzerland. The album was also making significant waves in the US market, thanks in part to the success of the "Wonderwall" and " Champagne Supernova " singles on American modern rock radio. Both songs reached number one on the Modern Rock Tracks chart and stayed there for ten and five weeks respectively. By earlyWhat's the Story was sellingcopies a week, eventually peaking at number four and being certified four times platinum by the end of the year for shipments of over four million units. McGuigan cited nervous exhaustion as the reason for his departure. As the band began to reach the peak of their popularity, several large open-air concerts were organized in the UK duringincluding two gigs at Manchester City football stadium Maine Roadtwo nights at Loch Lomond in Scotland, and two nights at Knebworth House in front of a recordpeople each night; an event that would come to be acknowledged as the height of the Britpop phenomenon, with one journalist commenting; " Knebworth could be seen as the last great Britpop performance; nothing after would match its scale. There and Then. Many contemporary reviewers expressed disappointment at the album's perceived inferiority to Definitely Maybetaking aim at the "banal lyrics" and the unoriginal nature of the compositions. They [say] nothing much about anything. Despite stating that "Some Might Say" Oasis: Whats the Story "the best single of the year", Stubbs went on to be critical of the album as a whole; " What's the Story [sounds] laboured and lazy. On this evidence, Oasis are a limited band NME was more enthusiastic, with the magazine's John Robinson writing that the album shows Oasis pursuing "an altogether different direction; away from the conscience-free overloaded hedonism towards an understanding of its consequences". In his book Britpop! The fact that [Noel's] songs contained so many musical echoes seemed to couch the album in an air of homely reassurance.
