AJ Martinez Curriculum Vitae 4 FIELDWORK EXPERIENCE Namibia, Southern Africa April 4-25 2017 I Collected and recorded GPS coordinates of Welwitschia bugs (Probergrothius angolensis) and other pentatomorphan Hemiptera across different host plants and 13 collection locations for microbial community and population genetic analyses. Required about 3,000 miles (~5,000 km) of total travel around the northern half of Namibia. Hawaii, USA March 3-15 2015 Traveled with Dr. Luis Cayetano-Simmari (Primary investigator, UC Berkeley) in order to help him identify and collect aphids and other Sternorryhncha for his study on the diversity of facultative symbionts in native and invasive species on the Hawaiian islands. We surveyed 18 collection locations on the islands of Maui and Moloka’i. Wisconsin, USA September 16-19 2013 With the aid of Dr. Anthony Ives and his lab at the University of Wisconsin, I used sweep-netting to capture and sort from 3 alfalfa agricultural plots near Madison, WI. I used a combination of identification keys and COI barcoding to identify insects present in the community. Dr. Vilas Patel (University of Georgia) is using this data to study the microbial communities of arthropods in complex food webs.
