It is the same for the Greek cruise industry which now joins forces under an ambitious new ini- tiative of the Hellenic Ports Association, through the creation of clustering cruise ports, under the name GREEK CRUISE.

The purpose of the creation of such clustering is the coopera- tion for the coordinated promotion of Greek cruise ports, so that our country can be organized to communicate with the overseas ports - receptors of cruise.

This is an outward-coordinated movement in which at the first stage includes 3 actions: the creation of a logo and identity for all Greek cruise ports, the creation of a strong, utilitarian and interactive website in order to promote the ports and the creation of the document that you are holding in your hands, in which both the ports and their technical characteristics are presented, as well as the visit able areas around them.

These actions are addressed to the global tourist audience by means of a simple, clear and simultaneously dynamic ap- proach to the emergence of port capabilities of our country. It is the first time that the general public has the opportunity to learn of the aggregate capabilities of the Greek Cruise which is absolutely competitive and dynamic, and we all have to high- light its characteristics.

Simultaneously, the new clustering, the first phase of which www.greekcruise.gr involves the 25 ports of cruise destination from the members of the Hellenic Ports Association, will strengthen the coopera- tion between the ports.

We would like to invite you to explore the Greek ports through the pages of the Greek Cruise.

The ornaments of the city of Rethymnon are the Fortezza, a fortress complex of the Venetian period (16th c.) and are the site that hosts the Renaissance Festival every summer. Also, the small and cozy Venetian harbor with its fishing boats and the Egyptian lighthouse built from 1830- 1840. The Neratze Mosque and the Venetian Rimondi Fountain complete the interesting places to visit.

Rethymno is beautiful all year round, day and night. During the day, the picturesque streets of old Rethymno are suitable for walks and in the evening savor the traditional and delicious Cretan cuisine in the taverns of the City.

For each visitor to the area, interesting places to visit are the many museums (Historical and Folklore Museum, Paleontological Museum, Archaeological Museum, Museum of Contemporary Art, and Ecclesiastical Museum) and historical sites such as the Monastery of Arkadi and Eleftherna.

ELIME_ENTYPO_2019_EN.indd 52 10/05/2019 11:22 ...Homeric islands of Culture!

The islands of Ulysses, Ithaca and Kefalonia are situated in the west part of mainland Greece, in the and belong to the Ionian Islands.

Characteristics of the geomorphology are the green plains, mountainous and hilly lands, with the highest peak being Mount Enos (1628 m) desig- nated as a National Park. The coastline forms safe bays, large headlands and steep slopes, revealing the intense geological phenomena which won the islands from mainland Greece thousands of years ago, while the cli- mate is mild, Mediterranean with hot summers and mild winters which guarantees good conditions for exploration throughout the year.

The long and troubled history has left a rich cultural heritage that assimi- lates all the western influences harmoniously in authentic Greek charac- ter, as testified today, in the relics of the Ionian civilization.

The images in Kefalonia and Ithaca are far from routine for the other Greek islands. The infinite routes in paths of earth and sea reveal dreamy beach- es, lush landscapes, rare geological phenomena and unique habitats. The culture unfolds through the simple Ionian architecture, Venetian castles, monuments and relics of a long intellectual and religious tradition and a lively local gastronomy with the jewel of its wine, the Robola wine!

Lively, genuine island settlements, tourist resorts and picturesque har- bors, discreetly avoid the hustle of mass tourism and offer hospitality to those who appreciate the grandeur and beauty that hides in itself the poet’s word ‘’the journey’’.
