The Europartenariat is an initiative of great sign ificance taken by th e Commission of the European Community, and is aimed at promoting certain regions of th e Community, by providing business cooperation opportunities for small and medium sized companies. After Dublin in Ireland, Torremolinos in Andalucia, Cardiff in Wales, Porto in Portugal and Leipzig in Germany, the sixth Europartenariat will take place in Greece, in the city of Thessaloniki on the 22nd and the 23rd of June 1992. The body responsible for the organisation of this event in Greece is the Exporters' Association of Northern Greece in collaboration with HELEXPO which is the official Greek Organisation of International Trade fairs, Exh ibition s Festivals and Con vention s. The impl ementation of every Europartenariat follows four main stages: the selection of local companies; the production of a catalogue presenting those companies and th eir cooperation profiles in six eu ropean languages; the widespread distribution of the catalogue throughout Europe ; and finall y the organisation of two days of prearranged bu siness meetings. THE AIM OF EUROPARTENAR IAT Th e main objective is th e stimulation of collaboration between companies throughout the whole of the European Community as well as the development of certain region s. The cooperation meeting in Thessaloniki on the 22nd and 23rd of June 1992, provides a valuable opportunity to international companies to conduct talks with represen tatives of the 303 Greek companies in this catalogue. Language problems will be largely eliminated through the availability of translation and interpretation services. HOW TO PARTICIPATE To apply for particiipation in the Europartenariat, yo u are requested to fill in the application form on page 203 and send it to the consultant in charge of yo ur country (see page 205) To book a room in a hotel, you are requested to fill in the application form on page 200 and send it to the address mentioned there. All interested European companies are welcome to participate in Europartenariat '92 . 5 THE EUROPARTENARIAT tU ~ 0 r A~ It NA~ IA I'~ DUBLIN · 23-24 JUNE 1988 IRELAND 89 EUROPARTENARIAT ANDALUCIA I\ WALES Europa rtenariat Wales 1990 PORTUGAL PORTO 91 · 06 · 17/ 18 EUR:$:·PARTENARIAT 91 PORTUGAL *•* EAST GERMANY GREECE STATISTICAL DATA OF THE EUROPARTENARIAT EVENTS '88 '89 '90 '91 '918' COMPANIES 117 220 165 210 344 VISITORS 300 550 600 830 1.019 CONTACTS 600 2.000 2.100 2.375 4.200 DEALS 20 80 80 n.y.a. n.y.a. n.y.a.=- not yet available 7 WELCOME MESSAGES MESSAGE FROM Mr. STEFANOS MANOS Minister of Greek National Econom y The organisation of Europartenariat '92 in the city of Thessaloniki marks an extremely important event for Greece to host for the first time, this well established European Community initiative. Europartenariat '92 wil l offer the opportunity to the Greek enterprises taking part, to exchange experience, to develop common activities and cooperation programmes with other European SME 's and expand their activities wihtin the wider European Area. Modern competition conditions and the progressive introduction of a market economy in Eastern and Central Europe mean that there is a need for small and medium size enterprises in the European Community to improve productivity and increase competitiveness base d on an ability to innovate and adjust in an open market. The Ministry of National Economy is very happy to see that Greek enterprises, characterised by dynamism and openess, are now looking outside our frontiers and seeking the cooperation with other similar enterprises in other member states at all lewels, for mutual benefit. Furthermore the in vitation of bu siness men form the EFT A countries, the balkans, and other countries of Eastern Europe and Cypru s conferns to Europartenariat '92 of Thessaloniki , a new dimension which goes beyond the limits of the European Community and expands the cooperation prospects. I am convinced that thi s event, which is taking place in an area of strategic importance non only in the Balkan s, but also in the wider European area, will encourage su bstantial bu siness initiatives and profitable financial deals. I hope that this event will be full y successful. r· ' ___, L ,./ Stefanos Manos Minister of Greek National Economy 11 MESSAGE FROM Mr. MILLAN and Mr. CARDOSO E CUNHA Members of the European Commission Some ten years have now passed since Greece joined the European Communities. On the eve of completion of the Single Market, the Commission of the European Communities has decided -in association with the Greek national authorities -both to mark the distance already trave ll ed since Greek accesson, and to draw attention to the industrial an d economic change taking place in the country as well as the many business opportunities it offers today. «Europartenariat" in Greece will provide a unique occasion for several hundred Community bu sinesses to see for them selves, on the ground, the changes under way and to enter into direct discussions about trade links and financial and technical cooperation with the three hundred Greek companies selected for this event and listed in this catalogue. Apart from these contacts between individual bu sinesses, ,, Europartenariat" will this time be including several new dimensions above and beyond its basic purpose of promoting regional development. In fact fo r the last two years businesses from EFT A countries have already been participating regularly in these events, reflecting the opening of the Community towards the European Economic Area. But Thessaloniki will also be welcoming firms from Central Europe, especially the Balkan countries that border Greece and are its natural partners. The «Europartenariat" event, offering as it does more opportunities for business contacts, hopes to become a unique and effective forum for cooperation and partnership between European businesses, therefore providing the greatest possible benefit to the host region. In taking on this task, «Europartenariat" in Greece can rel y on fi ve years of experience in the running of these events and on the growing awareness of them in the bu siness world, as attested to by the latest «Europartenariat,, held in eastern Germany, which brought together more than a thousand potential partners for a selection of 340 east German

The main ob- jective is to depict the climate of the era throughout the time frame from 1916 -- the commencement of their captivity outside Greece – and their re- turn in 1918, through the personal and collective experiences of ordinary people. It is an effort to highlight the value of the oral culture, incorporating the voice of the unseen protagonists into the historical data. It describes the way they reached this specific area, the two years they spent there, and the four phases of their return. Key words: Oral history, Collective memory, Vlachs, Captivity, Serres This announcement is the product of an on-the-spot study of the Vla- chophones of Serres, and more specifically refers to the Vlachophones of Irakleia (Tzoumagias), Petritsi, Vyroneia, and Poroion. It is founded mainly on oral ac- counts of first-generation individuals who witnessed the events of the captivity. The chief objective of this article is to depict the climate of the period from 1916 – the commencement of their captivity outside Greece – and their return in 1918, through the personal and collective experiences of ordinary people.

TUBERCULOSIS IN GREECE An Experiment in the Relief and Rehabilitation of a Country By J. B. McDOUGALL, C.B.E., M.D., F.R.C.P. (Ed.), F.R.S.E.; Late Consultant in Tuberculosis, Greece, UNRRA INTRODUCTION In Greece, we follow the traditions of truly great men in all branches of science, and in none more than in the science of medicine. Charles Singer has rightly said - "Without Herophilus, we should have had no Harvey, and the rise of physiology might have been delayed for centuries. Had Galen's works not survived, Vesalius would have never reconstructed anatomy, and surgery too might have stayed behind with her laggard sister, Medicine. The Hippo- cratic collection was the necessary and acknowledged basis for the work of the greatest of modern clinical observers, Sydenham, and the teaching of Hippocrates and his school is still the substantial basis of instruction in the wards of a modern hospital." When we consider the paucity of the raw material with which the Father of Medicine had to work-the absence of the precise scientific method, a population no larger than that of a small town in England, the opposition of religious doctrines and dogma which concerned themselves largely with the healing art, and a natural tendency to speculate on theory rather than to face the practical problems involved-it is indeed remarkable that we have been left a heritage in clinical medicine which has never been excelled. Nearly 2,000 years elapsed before any really vital advances were made on the fundamentals as laid down by the Hippocratic School.

Interdisciplinary approach to implement digital techniques for 3D modelling, including 3D terrestrial laser scanning and image-based modelling. Implementation of virtual anastylosis by archaeologists using the 3D models and suitable software. Abstract: Archaeological restoration of monuments is a practice requiring extreme caution and thorough study. Proceeding to restoration or to reconstruction actions without detailed consultation and thought is normally avoided by archaeologists and conservation experts. Nowadays, anastylosis executed on the real object is generally prohibited. Contemporary technologies have provided archaeologists and other conservation experts with the tools to embark on virtual restorations or anastyloses, thus testing various alternatives without physical intervention on the monument itself. In this way, the values of the monuments are respected according to international conventions. In this paper, two examples of virtual archaeological anastyloses of two important Macedonian tombs in northern Greece are presented.
