To Costa Rica : Journey Of A Lifetime

‘Journey of a Lifetime’: This factual series, comprising six half hour episodes, reveals the at times heartbreaking and often uplifting stories of 34 people trekking through the Costa Rican Rainforest in aid of the charity Marie Curie. Each has a personal reason for embarking on the adventure, but all must work together to complete the journey of a lifetime.

In April 2016 a group of charity fundraisers will leave the Marie Curie Hospice in Penarth and travel to Costa Rica to embark on an eight day trek up volcanoes and through rainforest, over some treacherous terrain, with the aim of raising more than £100,000 between them.

Some are trekking in memory of a loved one, others want to push themselves to their limits, and every member of the team wants to raise money for a fantastic cause.

Last year Tracey and Liam Maton lost their brother Craig to cancer. Craig had been cared for by the team at Marie Curie, so now Tracey and Craig want to help other families like themselves. For them the trek will be particularly hard, because they’ll be marking Craig’s birthday while they’re in Costa Rica.

For Bryan Gunton and Dave Went this trek will be third time lucky. The two friends met on a Marie Curie hike across the Sahara, and later went on to complete a trek along the Great Wall of China. The pair has tales of the trials and tribulations that trekkers face on these charity journeys and they’ll be integral to the success of this latest challenge.

While Gina Burke knows better than most why this adventure is so important. Gina works for Marie Curie and sees, on a daily basis, the difference fundraising makes to the charity.

Tracey, Liam, Bryan, Dave, Gina and the rest of the trekkers will be joined on their journey by a crew from Made In Cardiff, who will join them as they face their journey of a lifetime.

In part one of the series the audience will meet the trekkers, and watch them setting off on their journey of a lifetime. In parts two, three, four and five they’ll be facing the rainforest terrain and volcanoes of Costa Rica, before returning to Cardiff in the final episode where they will reflect on their exploits. What We Want

We are looking for support to help make this series look and sound as good as it can. Natalie and Mariclare are raising £3,300 each for Marie Curie to attend the trek and the commission received from Made Television has contributed to our financial target. Both of us have raised the minimum amount required to secure our places on the trek, so we will be going. However, having donated 100% of the commission for the programme on getting onto the trek, we are having to use our own personal resources to undergo filming. We have some incredible terrain to cover and want to capture it all using the best kit for the job. We will be ziplining through the rainforest, climbing waterfalls and swimming in some amazing locations as well as climbing 4 volcanoes.

We already have a Canon C100mk2 and a GoPro4 (provided by GoPro). We are hoping to find the following resources to help. - Rode Link Radio Mics - a good trekking tripod with fluid video head ie Safari R1100, Gitzo or 3leggedthing. - wide to telephoto lens for Canon EF fit - ie Canon 28-300 -light weight carrying solution - ie fstopgear Kashmir UL

We will be able to credit all supporters on the final production and will also sharing details of equipment donations on our social networks along with many photos of equipment in action.
