[16th June, 1998] BE IT ENACTED BY THE OIREACHTAS AS FOLLOWS: 1.Ð(1) In this Act ``the Minister'' means the Minister for the Interpretation. Environment and Local Government. (2) In this ActÐ (a) a reference to a former rural district shall be construed as a reference to that district as constituted immediately before the 1st day of October, 1925; and (b) a reference to a line drawn along any motorway, road, rail- way or pathway shall be construed as a reference to a line drawn along the centre of such motorway, road, railway or pathway. 2.ÐDaÂil EÂ ireann shall, after the dissolution thereof that next Number of occurs after the passing of this Act, consist of 166 members. members of DaÂil EÂ ireann. 3.Ð(1) The members of DaÂil EÂ ireann shall, after the dissolution Constituencies. of DaÂil EÂ ireann that next occurs after the passing of this Act, rep- resent the constituencies specified in the Schedule to this Act. (2) An area specified in the Schedule to this Act shall be taken to be that area as constituted on the 1st day of January, 1998, but if any doubt arises as to the constituency in which any electoral division or part thereof, or any townland or part thereof, is included, the doubt shall, subject to section 1(2)(b) of this Act, be determined by the Minister. 4.ÐA constituency specified in the Schedule to this Act shall Number of return the number of members set out in respect thereof in the third members to be returned for a column of that Schedule. constituency. 3 [No. 19.] Electoral (Amendment) (No. 2) Act, [1998.] 1998. Repeal. 5.Ð(1) The Electoral (Amendment) Act, 1995, is hereby repealed. (2) Subsection (1) of this section shall come into operation on the dissolution of DaÂil EÂ ireann that next occurs after the passing of this Act. Short title, 6.Ð(1) This Act may be cited as the Electoral (Amendment) collective citation (No. 2) Act, 1998. and construction. (2) The Electoral Act, 1992, the Electoral (Amendment) Act, 1996, the Electoral Act, 1997, the Electoral (Amendment) Act, 1998, and this Act may be cited together as the Electoral Acts, 1992 to 1998, and shall be construed together as one Act. 4 [1998.] Electoral (Amendment) (No. 2) Act, [No. 19.] 1998.
