Under the Museum Grants Program established in 1970, the province provides assistance to local museums on a dollar-for-dollar matching basis to a maximum of $2,000 annually to each qualifying museum to help in carrying out their objectives. Maximum $2,000 grants to rural museums were awarded as follows: Ashern Pioneer Museum; Manitoba Agricultural Hall of Fame, Austin; Manitoba Agricultural Museum, Austin; Broken-Beau Historical Society Museum, Beausejour; Beckoning Hills Museum, Boissevain; B.J. Hales Museum, Brandon; Brandon Museum (The Daly House); Carberry Plains Museum, Carberry; Fort Dauphin Museum, Dauphin; Cook's Creek Museum, Dugald; Dugald Costume Collection, Inc.; Manitoba Automobile Museum, Elkhorn; Eriksdale Museum; Flin Flon Museum; Ukrainian Museum and Village, Gardenton; R.M. and Town of Gimli Development Corp., Gimli; Watson-Crossley Community Museum, Grandview; Archibald Historical Museum, La Riviere; Leaf Rapids National Exhibition Centre; Moosehorn Museum. Morden and District Museum; Beautiful Plains Museum, Neepawa; Fort la Reine Museum, Portage la Prairie; Musee Pointe des Chenes, Ste. Anne; Musee de St. Boniface; R.M. of St. Francois Xavier; La Societe Historique de St. George; Musee St. Joseph Inc.; Marine Museum of Manitoba, Selkirk; Spruce Haven Museum, Shoal Lake; Hillcrest Museum, Souris; Mennonite Village Museum, Steinbach; Swan Valley Museum, Swan River; Treherne Museum; Pioneer Home Museum, Virden; Whitemouth Museum; Pembina Threshermen's Museum Inc., Winkler; Ukrainian Homestead Inc., Winnipeg Beach; Winnipegosis Historical Society; and Woodlands Pioneer Museum. Rural museums receiving less than the maximum grant were: Dufferin Historical Society, Carman, $1,478; J.A.V. David Museum, Killarney, $1,561; Musee St. Joachim, La Broquerie, $492; Antler River Museum, Melita, $1,504; Miami museum, $1,259; Miniota Municipal Museum Inc., $1,688; Minnedosa Museum, $1,033; Pilot Mound Centennial Museum, $619; Rapid City Museum, $933; Keystone Pioneer Museum, Roblin, $1,797; La Societe Historique de St.Claude, $383; Star Mound Historical Society, Snowflake, $293; Strathclair Museum, $1,371; Ole Johnson Museum Organization Inc., Swan River, $26; Teulon and District -more- -2- 70 MANITOBA MUSEUMS Museum, $1,287; Little Northern Museum, The Pas, $740; River Valley Historical Society Inc., Virden, $1,698; and Waskada Museum, $1,895. Winnipeg museums receiving the maximum $2,000 grant include; Aquatic Hall of Fame, Association of Manitoba Museums, Dalnavert McDonald House Museum, Fort Garry Historical Society Inc., Grant's Old Mill, Ivan Franco Museum, Manitoba Forestry Association Inc., Midwestern Rail Association Inc., Museum of St. James-Assiniboia, Vintage Locomotive Society Inc., and the Western Canada Aviation Museum, while the Royal Winnipeg Rifles Regimental Museum received a grant of $1,600. -30- .
