Desirable candidates for the Children’s Programs Manager position bring a Scope of the Position: knowledge of and background in developing, implementing and managing a wide variety of activities and special interest clubs in a center-based setting with children ages 3–12. The Children’s Programs Manager supports development of curriculum, clubs, activities, Summer Camp, and class offerings. The Children’s Programs Manager promotes these offerings to the community and works as a liaison to the Director of Children’s Programs for families and teachers.

In addition, the Children’s Programs Manager works directly with children and families, supports the generation and maintenance of accurate and organized paperwork, and covers breaks daily for teaching staff.

The Children’s Programs Manager works in coordination with the Director of Children’s Programs to facilitate and administer the daily and on-going needs of the Children’s Programs, including acting as the point person in charge for staff, families, and students when the Director is not available, and works in collaboration with other administrators to cover absences by the Director. During program hours the project manager acts as a “floater teacher,” covering in the classroom for staff members who are out, supporting teachers, and conducting classroom observations. Essential Functions Management Responsibilities • With support from the Director, guide teaching staff in best practices for the development and implementation of activities, curriculum, and classroom environment. • Model and teach professional behavior and excellent classroom management skills to staff. • Provide regular input to the Director about staff performance and provide input on evaluations. • Monitor attendance email account and voicemail daily, and relay information to teaching staff. • Assist Director with short- and long-term program planning. • Communicate positively with children, families, and staff. • Support and train staff in maintaining accurate rosters for all children in attendance. • Assist Director in facilitating staff breaks and maintaining required student-to-staff ratios. • Create and maintain equitable staff rotations for duties such as snack clean-up, and leading activities. • Keep track of essential paperwork including registration forms and permissions. • Assist staff to locate training and resource materials for activity and curriculum planning. • Actively participate in all-staff meetings and occasionally other program or agency events with prior notice and as needed. • Help Friendly House fulfill its community-building mission through interactions with students, families, staff and the community. • Support and provide back-up for program director, and other program staff for a limited duration as needed. • Complete other duties as assigned.

Club Day (After School Program) • Support After School staff to generate club options, maintaining variety and interest for all age groups while incorporating STEM activities. • Support staff’s club curriculum as needed. • Support staff to position students in appropriate clubs, generate rosters and support teachers’ continued planning. • Supply families with communication materials (signs, emails, etc.) to facilitate locating their children’s Club Day location.

Enrichment Classes (After School Program) • Communicate with community partners and recruit visiting educators to coordinate enrichment class offerings. • Promote enrichment offerings to After School families via email and fliers. • Maintain ongoing communication with instructors, partners and families throughout the year. Summer Camp, Winter Break Camp, and Spring Break Camp • With input from teaching staff, generate weekly themes and descriptions for camp sessions. • Contact local businesses and individuals to confirm field trips and partnerships. • Create a field trip plan, complete with transportation, expenditures, and scheduling for each session. • Support and supervise staff in planning their sessions.

Child supervision • Provide a safe, healthy environment for children. • As necessary, act as a “floater teacher” during program hours, filling in for other staff members who are out. • Be responsible for a group of up to 30 children with help from another teacher. • Model appropriate, cooperative behavior for children utilizing PBIS standards. • Meet CCD (15 hours per year) and Friendly House’s training requirements. • Follow Friendly House Risk Management Plan.

Knowledge & Skills 1. Knowledge of: a. General principles and best practices of preschool and elementary education. b. Anti-bias curriculum and developmentally appropriate curricula for preschool and school-agers that includes a wide range of enrichment activities. c. Social-emotional support curriculum (PBIS or otherwise). d. Office of Childcare, Early Learning Division (CCD) rules for center-based programs.

2. Skills: a. Excellent oral and written communication skills with adults and children. b. Talents or areas of expertise that can be shared through clubs and group activities. c. Good organizational and time management skills. d. Excellent supervision skills. e. Art, sports, music, drama, STEM-related activities.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

Must meet minimum qualifications of a Head Teacher (as per CCD guidelines), and three years’ experience in Early Childhood or elementary education/childcare setting that shows increasing level of responsibility.
