About the :

Valhalla Golf Club is a unique golf only facility featuring an 18hole Championship and a newly renovated clubhouse. The Club facilities also feature an expansive 12.5-acre, double-sided practice facility with two practice putting greens as well as two practice bunker/pitching greens. Valhalla is recognized as one of Golf Digest’s "America's 100 Greatest Golf Courses. “Beginning in 1981, the founder and developer of Valhalla, Dwight Gahm, started creating a traditional "golf only" facility with an outstanding championship course that would host world-class events. Today, Valhalla is the culmination of a history-making partnership bringing championship golf to Louisville on a recurring schedule, resulting in The PGA of America's first owned championship site.

Gahm commissioned to build a private golf facility on 486 acres of rolling terrain that would provide its members with the highest level of service. Valhalla Golf Club, located approximately 20 miles east of downtown Louisville, opened its doors in 1986. Named one of the top three new private golf courses in the U.S. in 1987, the first year it was eligible, Valhalla Golf Club remains the No. 1-ranked course in Kentucky.

In 1992, Valhalla Golf Club was announced as the site for the 1996 PGA Championship. Valhalla Golf Club has all the ingredients necessary for a successful PGA Championship - a world-class golf course to challenge the best players in the world, a supportive community, a top-ranked convention destination with excellent transportation, housing and entertainment services, and a central location reaching several major metropolitan cities within a 150-mile radius. In the fall of 2011, Valhalla embarked on a project to modernize the course by overhauling the drainage and irrigation infrastructure throughout the course. The primary focus was on the green complexes, with Nicklaus rebuilding them from the ground up, enhancing surface drainage, and softening contours.

Valhalla's 17,500 square foot clubhouse, featuring a 45foot Omega Clock Tower and a veranda overlooking the 18th green, opened in February 1996. The clubhouse underwent an extensive renovation that was completed in 2017 and modernized the inside while keeping the traditional Louisville design that blends both Midwestern and Southern accents. The clubhouse features an expansive golf shop sales area generating nearly $900,000 in sales annually. The clubhouse renovation created an enjoyable indoor golf experience with two trackman practice bays as well as a synthetic turf putting green. After the legendary 2000 PGA Championship, the PGA of America took full ownership of Valhalla and scheduled or played a number of championships, including the 2002 PGA Club Professional Championship (now the PGA Professional Championship), the 2004 and 2011 Senior PGA Championships, the 2008 , the PGA Championship in August 2014, the 2018 PGA Boys Junior PGA Championship and will be the host of the upcoming 2021 Girls Junior PGA Championship and the 2024 PGA Championship
