At the sector level, Communication Services and Consumer Staples names were the best performers, whilst Health Care and Consumer Discretionary were the main laggards. Fund Review Contributors to relative performance included an underweight exposure to Controladora Vuela Compania de Aviacion, a low cost airline. Furthermore, Kimberly Clark Mexico, a manufacturer and distributer of consumer industrial hygiene products including toilet paper and facial tissues. Detractors included Alsea, a multi-brand operator in Latin America that includes fast food, cafeteria and casual dining segments. Additionally, Grupo Bimbo, a producer and seller of bakery products with operations across the Americas and Europe. Allocation effects, residual to the stock selection process, were negative for the period given anoverweight exposure to Consumer Discretionary names. During the period, a position was initiated in Bolsa Mexicana de Valores and Grupo Bimbo, whilst no positions were sold. Outlook Mexico is considered a developing economy with solid fundamentals and it has defensive characteristics given its oligopolistic structure, providing price power to leading companies. The country benefits from a demographic bonus given its young population. Private consumption, though more subdued, and industrial trade should continue to support Mexico’s growth.
