With fresh conditions almost every boat in every Division had a story to tell. Rear Commodore Rick & Roland & crews had a busy day, & “eX” with RDO Frostie as crew, also had Chris Hallett 0414866998 to retire to assist in one recovery. The BOM forecast was for 15knots, hitting up to 20 at sea, so we were all there Secretary for a fresh day. On the Start Boat, we could hear Rick radioing in for wind Jacqueline Heap 0423230840 strengths, & those listening were hoping for no cancellation, as gusts on the Start Line were getting up there. Treasurer Norm Hunt 8 boats were there ready for the action - 3 Spiders, “Ex”, Just a Touch, Aeolian, HH 66291366 Rabbit & new addition Waller 540 “Djinn”. Small run-in tide, hot & sunny, & NNE wind that steadied around 20 with 25k gusts top half of the course, but Class Reps Gennekers – Duncan Dey varied between 12 to 25 gusts for the Club half of the course, & this varying Catamarans – David Bowler caused some grief. Trailers – Graeme Fleming Monos – Maurice Reynaud Rabbit was first to the Top Mark, & saw that it was good, in fact she reely liked it, & in fact became quite attached to it. As other boats approached & also Rowing Officer wanted to round, Rabbit wasn’t finished playing with it & caused some concern as Mel Nixon Kelli Coleman sailors wrestled with the problem of .. well we should really go round the Mark HHUU but .. I’m not going anywhere that boat spinning out of control in these winds. Webmaster Jonathon tried, but almost lost that extra 2 feet, .. when Rabbit finally shook Colin Hinwood free it’s toy, & took off like a startled ..yeah well.. anyway Bad Blood hooked it’s Training team loose rope a few laps later as well, [caused also by Rabbit calling Starboard on a Graeme Turner Maurice Raynaud tight rounding…. Geez..!!] Back at the sailing .. the course didn’t quite allow for a true works, as the leg ALL EMAIL could be done in one, if you protected height all the way. Most elected to free a CORRESPONDENCE TO: [email protected] bit & one tack. Downwind was no gybe for the asso boats, & the gusts could put them anywhere .. the big down took them. Todd & Andrew had issues with the placement of that big sandy point being placed in the middle of the racetrack, & visited the beach a couple of times on round ups, trying to shave the Point. Bad Blood & Reg were in close combat until Blood lost it on a downwind, letting Bill & Gunter escape into free air. Aeolian was seen with only the back bit of the hull actually in the water, as the Hartley went for a new speed record. These boats love a fresh down wind, & 1 have a big, strong rudder. Box 963 Ballina 2478 Enquiries: email: [email protected] or phone a committee member And of course, the orange Waller, well .. hands up who hasn’t been there .. arse over, ingloriously towed back to beach full of water ...been there … No damage tho & owner Graham is planning the modifications that will correct the boat’s bad manners. The bigger Rabbit eventually worked its way back thru the fleet, to just get the gun, but it was Spider Reg with Gunter & Bill – a combo that goes waaay back - to win the day. Monos, Gennekers and Cats As your Newsletter writer was layed up with some nasty virus the report will be largely made up apart from some odd snippets of information gleaned from the odd Cat sailor. So, as per the trailer report conditions were a little hairy and it seems the Mono fleet all survived except for the McKeowns who did not finish. This was obviously the ideal conditions for Millsy with his new fit self. Graham Hams has been providing Cameron with plenty of good advice on survival techniques and all finished well. Lucky those monos are easy to get back up and going. The Genneker numbers were up with 5 ready for the fast and furious conditions. These speedy machines were almost flying on the day with Maurice and crew trying out his Cherub and Liam Channer and crew unable to finish due to breakages. The older Genneker sailors proved to be able to finish the race with Mike and Crew ( was it Laura??) making the grade and keeping the Bradfords well behind, most likely due to some surprise capsizes. Vince was second over the line and was seriously missing Duncan. The cat Sailors were looking confident in the morning but as the wind increased there were some other decisions to be made. Nola decided the day was not for her and after Phil tried for a one up session decided to go back and pick Chris up for crew. Geoff and Norm teamed up for a brilliant race and Norm enjoying his freedom on the trapeze. He described it as “ a screamer”. I am sure he was not screaming. Jonathan and Drew flew around the course in no time at all. Col loves those erratic crazy adventures which can only add to his repertoire of stories and enjoyed second over the line. Tony had many capsizes and has found that the little taipan can be a very tipsy customer in those conditions. Looks like Phil and John Mac did not finish. Well, I think Phil did but he did stop off and pick up a crew. No-one there for John to double up with. He usually sticks with it. I wonder what went wrong this time. This weekend is Cat week at Southport and many of the Nacra sailors will be participating. Good luck guys.     RS500 World Championships, RS100 European Championships and RS200/RS400 Eurocup 2017 24-28 July 2017 Hosted by AVAL-CDV Gravedona Organising Authority – AVAL-CDV Gravedona in conjunction with the International RS100/RS200/RS400/RS500 Class Associations NOTICE OF RACE 1 RULES 1.1 The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS). 1.2 The International RS Class Associations Rules will apply. 1.3 The racing rules will be changed as follows: Rule 31 changed so that marks other than starting and finishing marks may be touched without penalty. Rule 32 changed to allow the race to be shortened at the Committee Boat on station at the finish. Rule 35 changed to score boats finishing outside the time limit in their observed position on the course. Rule 40 changed so that personal Floatation Devices must be worn at all times while afloat. Rule 44 for the RS100s, the two turn penalty may be changed to a one turn penalty. Rule 63.1 changed so that for breaking certain rules boats can be disqualified without a hearing. The changes will appear in full in the Sailing Instructions. New and modified classes appear every year and it is important to gather information and review results as quickly as possible. For dinghy classes there have been no changes to the original Yardsticks published for the 2013/14 season, as results for review have not been forthcoming. In the absence of race results data for dinghy classes and new internationally sourced classes, where there is yardstick data from overseas available, a comparison is made with other international classes to derive an equivalent Yachting Victoria yardstick value. This is explained further down in this document. Fortunately for catamaran classes, there has been significant work done by the Kurnell Catamaran Club in reviewing various catamaran ratings, as well as validating the ratings against the international SCHRS system. This work has now been incorporated into the YV yardsticks for catamaran classes. Much appreciation goes to KCC for this good work. Catamaran yardsticks are now contained in a separate document: “YV - Cat Yardsticks13_14 v1.0” USE OF THE YV YARDSTICKS A club which intends to run a race or event under the Yachting Victoria Yardstick system should include in the Notice of Race and in the Sailing Instructions clauses based on the following: 1 The version of the YV Yardstick System that is to be used in calculating the mixed class fleet racing results.
