I chose rowing because I thought this way I could exercise whilst sitting down. Since then, I have never stopped rowing, and it has been more than 50 years. Up until I was 20, I was very lucky to be an elite rower in my birth town, Banyoles, a privileged location for the sport, with great facilities and coaches like Thor Nielsen and the patronage of benefactor Pedro Abreu. When I was 20, I retired from high level sport due to my studies, although I kept rowing, and then in 1999 I participated in my first World Rowing Masters in Seville. Since then, I have taken part in all the Masters events, and I am very proud of Banyoles’s successful bid. I am sure that the city’s organisational excellence – showed in previous events – will help the 2021 edition to be an unforgettable one. During the Barcelona 1992 Olympics – when Banyoles was the rowing venue – I was involved in the organization and was fortunate to be the crowd commentator for many of the most prestigious Olympic regattas, such as the famous coxed pair won by the Searle brothers, beating the Abbagnale brothers after an incredible come back. The welcome ceremony and briefing will be held in the hotel, during the presentation dinner. 14.05.2017 Llançà Cadaqués (Monday) A coach will take the rowers to the Platja de Llançà, which will be the starting point of the tour. The stage will take you to Cadaqués (around 20 km), rowing past the quaint fishing town of Port de la Selva and various beach coves to rest or explore including Port Lligat, Salvador Dalí’s birthplace. After lunch we will visit the fascinating Dalí Museum in Figueres, having dinner nearby, before heading back to the hotel. 15.05.2017 Cadaqués Roses (Tuesday) Rowers will travel a similar distance from Cadaqués to Roses, still around the impressive Cap de Creus. Main attractions include the Cala Montjoi – world famous spot best known as the home of the restaurant El Bulli - , or the Almadraba beach. We will be able to discover more regional attractions, heading to the amazing Sant Pere de Rodes Monastery, for another guided visit.

Furthermore, this article aims to analyse how to design and implement long-term public policies in place branding. The Pla de l’Estany district is one of the smallest in Catalonia and had its moment of splendour during the Barcelona Olympic Games, which positioned it as a place of natural beauty and sports tourism. However, twenty-five years later, we ask whether this positioning needs to be updated. This research deploys a methodological triangulation that combines in-depth interviews with opinion leaders, discussions in focus groups and an online survey open to citizens. This research presents three conclusions: it places the processes of citizen participation as a key element in the construction of territorial brands; refocuses the narrative of the territory of the Pla de l’Estany based on the concepts of “sustainable nature” and “traditional culture”; and conceptualises place branding not just from the perspective of promoting tourism, but also from that of fomenting sustainable governance.

    A CASE STUDY OF OLYMPIC, WORLD AND COMMONWEALTH SCULLING CHAMPION PETER ANTONIE A THESIS SUBMITTED IN PART FULFILMENT OF THE DEGREE OF MASTER OF ARTS, SPORTS HUMANITIES/MEDIA, DIVISION OF HEALTH, DESIGN AND SCIENCE, UNIVERSITY OF CANBERRA ROBIN POKE AUGUST 2006 ii Abstract This thesis is a biographical case study of Olympic, World and Commonwealth sculling champion Peter Antonie, whose career at the elite or high performance level spanned some 23 years – from 1977 to 2000. The thesis examines the exploits of an oarsman and sculler regarded within his sport as one of Australia’s greatest ever, despite his being considered physically disadvantaged at every phase of his career. Antonie was, most notably, a man of small stature – widely considered a handicap at the level of rowing to which he aspired, and at which he ultimately succeeded. The study also examines what it was, despite those perceived disadvantages, that drove him to excel. The thesis further examines, in thematic form, parallel developments within Australian rowing and sculling in the quarter of a century in which Peter Antonie competed. This was a period during which fundamental changes were seen in Australian sport, notably in the areas of funding and administration, and which saw a transformation from amateur to professional participation at the Olympic, Commonwealth Games and world championships levels. There were also marked changes to high performance rowing as a result of technological advances that produced new types of equipment, and scientific developments that brought new training and selection methodologies. The research was carried out as part of a systematic attempt to examine and investigate Peter Antonie’s reputation, particularly as it compares with his better- known contemporaries, the so-called Oarsome Foursome, and to analyse that reputation in light of the administrative developments in Australian rowing and Australian sport.

The issue is that people were always selling things, having started with medieval barter and ended up with the genius infrastructure of modern trade. Marketing has been developing since 1450, when the first printed advertisement appeared. With time marketing went through the radio, TV and telephone. The the digital age presented us Internet, social media and e-commerce which nowadays help to the consumer pay attention on the variety of proposed goods. Plenty of private companies in tourism need marketing in order to improve their image, attractiveness, reputation and selling proposition. It is obviously, that with time marketers “changed the game”, because in tourism all internal and external factors affect a lot the process of management of the enterprise activities, its marketing and profitability.
