Student Designs and Builds Steam Plant This is a small excerpt from an article that Diana Bowley, a reporter for the , wrote on Steve Tatko’s steam plant: Tatko’s steam plant consists of a verti- cal fire tube boiler with a large drum perched over a “furnace” dotted with a series of valves. Combustible gases are carried from the furnace through several fire tubes. Inside the fire tubes, the heat is transferred into the water and then the smoke passes out through a smoke stack. The steam generated in the boiler is then sent to the engine. The engine runs on one reciprocating feed pump that delivers hot water back to the boiler to replace the steam that goes to the engine. To heat the Steve Tatko’s ’06 entry in the Maine State Science Fair boiler, Tatko uses a propane burner rated at 250,000 BTU’s an hour which delivers ample feed-water,” he explained. ANNUAL FUND Report of Charitable Giving 2004-05 Annual Fund

Members of the Class of 2006 at Homecoming 2005 Dear Friends, On behalf of Foxcroft Academy’s Board of Trustees, I want to thank parents, faculty and staff members, community members and alumni, as well as our Trustees for your participation in this year’s Annual Giving Campaign. Your gift shows an understanding of the challenges inherent in funding independent school education and plays a critical role in bridging the gap between tuition revenues and the true cost of an FA education. We exceeded this year’s goal by raising over $85,000 in unrestricted gifts which directly supports the instructional budget. In addition, $176,662 in charitable cash and in-kind gifts were received to support specific academic, athletic, and scholarship programs. Again, thank you for your generosity to Foxcroft Academy. Sporting events included the 5K Race, soccer, field hockey, basketball, ice hockey and the traditional golf scramble in which over 110 alumni and friends competed. The parade on Saturday morning drew floats from Athe classes of 1955, 1960, 1965, 1970, 1980, and 1995. Many classes held afternoon or evening get togethers and most noteable was the class of 2001 and other recent grads who drew over 100 alumni to their gathering Saturday night on Sebec Lake, hosted by Dana Frasz and Diana Swett. Presentations of alumni awards were made with Mr. David Mallett ’69 receiving the Dr. Mary Chandler Lowell Award, given to an alumnus who has distinguished him/herself in their chosen 4 profession. Awarded the Tillson Thomas Award for his 17 years of service to Foxcroft Academy as Band Director was Robert Thorne. ALUMNI REUNIONS More Reunions Held this Past Summer

Class of 1965 Celebrates 40 Years! On Alumni Weekend, the Class of 1965 celebrated forty years since their graduation with a float in the Homecoming Parade. Several people showed up to put it together and march in the parade. Saturday night they had a good turnout for the Alumni Banquet and later that night the class reconvened for a get-together at the Nor’easter Restaurant. Thanks go to those who helped organize the event including Gail Merrill Stutzman, Linda Knowlton Hews, and Dodie Barnes Dunham. Everyone seemed to enjoy catching up with each other. The class also made a generous donation to their Class of 1965 Endowment in the amount of $800. The fund was started in honor of the class’ 30th reunion and today has a value of over $8800, of which 5% goes each year to support the diverse academic programming that Foxcroft offers its students. If your class is interested in pursuing the creation of such a class fund, please contact Jay Brennan at Foxcroft Academy by calling (207)564-8664 or e-mailing him at [email protected] Class of 1965 preparing to march in parade

Celebration on the Lake for Recent Grads On the night of Saturday August 6, after a long day of Foxcroft Academy alumni activities and celebrations, Diana Swett and Dana Frasz hosted a lively party on Sebec Lake to bring the Dover-Foxcroft Homecoming Celebration to a close. Valedictorian Stacy Stitham and fellow ’98 classmates Bo Kennedy and Kelly Chase represented the oldest crowd of alumni at the party while members of the class of 2005 represented the youngest. The class of 2001 was strongly represented with the presence of Charlie Ashley, Jessica Lynn Smith, David Brennan, Erin Merrill, Dana Frasz, Diana Swett, Laura Erin Merrill, Gretchen Wilson, Laura Kurzius, Ariel Carolin, John Paul Tirell, Gabe Schmand, Holli Kurzius – all from the Nichols, Mike Doore, Jesse Snow, Kristi Smith, Josh Colson, and others. Josh Chase ’02 arrived Class of 2001 by boat from his camp across the lake to greet fellow classmates Elyse Pomeroy, Chelsey Killam, and Ashley McKusick. Veronica Willette ’02, also known as The Marshmallow Master, made everyone s’mores on an open fire all night. The party brought together over 115 Foxcroft graduates. People were able to catch up with classmates and friends, some of whom they hadn’t seen in several years. “This is the best party I’ve been to in a long time,” one ’00 alum commented. The success of the party is a testament to the special bond among members of the Dover-Foxcroft community that keeps us caring and curious about each other.
