Special thanks must go to all of those who have helped coach, umpire, manage, assist and lead throughout the 2018 season. This contribution is invaluable and appreciated by all members of the club.

We need to acknowledge the retirements of a number of our most valued members. Ken Trollope has announced that he is no longer playing after 341 club games (ranked 3rd in the club’s history). Ken will continue to be involved at the club and we look President Andrew Minter with Gary Johnson – forward to his continued contribution off the field. Relationship Manager, Bendigo Bank, Surrey Hills Branch Cassie Brock has been a multiple premiership winner, mentor to many of the younger members and an invaluable contributor since coming to BHCC five seasons ago. Andrew Minter President Greg Rizio, whose off-field contribution will be sorely missed has also been a highly-trusted and respected member of the club. Greg went above and beyond being a member by involving himself in many important administrative tasks.

Michael Vozzo resigned from the Senior Men’s Coaching role after five seasons in charge. Having all four men’s teams play in finals in season 2017/18 is a great achievement for the club. The challenge is to continue Michael’s work and provide a pathway for senior representation and progression to Premier ranks for aspiring cricketers. Paul Gloury has also decided to retire from playing to focus on his business and family. Paul has been one of the most successful batsmen to play at the club with four centuries and a batting average over 40 over his five seasons with the club.

5 SECRETARY’S ADDENDUM

It has been an absolute honour to elected as Secretary of Box Hill Cricket Club. Since joining the club in 2012 I have become extremely passionate about what Box Hill Cricket Club can offer to the community. The role has presented many challenges many more administration challenges will be faced with the changing nature of both Women’s Premier Cricket and the VSDCA. It is a very different environment now to the one I joined in 2012.

I would like to congratulate all the winners of the awards at presentation night. It was fantastic to see all seven senior teams make finals this year which is a great reflection on the culture we have created at the club.

In particular I would like to congratulate Rick Cullinan and the Women’s 1st XI on their premiership success. I don’t think I have ever witnessed a game which such drama. Somehow you always find a way to win.

Being on the committee I have observed that we have too few volunteers and too many tasks are left to too few. We need everyone to chip in to make this club a better place.

I would like to that President Andrew Minter, Treasurer Andrew Blake, Vice President Alan Carter and the rest of the committee for their support during the season.

Finally I would like to my partner, Georgia for all her support during the season.

Molly bowls around the wicket pitching held her back to create a perception of batting depth, the ball on middle stump, could have even been to close out the game and to manage her shoulder to middle and off. Holly showing no fear and complete a point. disregard for Molly steps across to the offside and punches the ball as clean as a whistle onto the onside We would have ideally batted her with 5 overs to go, for a run. The crowd erupts (or least our supporters but Izzy and Clegger’s were up to the challenge and do) and Hayleigh returns to the hot seat. She hits 17 another leg side ball, but this time its for 2 runs. We now need 4 off 4. Without pretending to know how Hayleigh thinks, I get a sneaking suspicion, that her next scoring shot will be her last.

Strano come around the wicket again and Hayleigh launches leg side. She hits it well, straight into the gap. As I am measuring to see where it might land, out of nowhere Sophie Van De Heuvel launches horizontally and for a fleeting moment looks as if she has taken the catch of the century. Of course, this game not wanting to finish without drama, has the ball spill from her hand and Holly and Hayleigh celebrating as the ball rolls over the boundary for 4.

Stella Reid and Lisa Bowring after their record The game was fantastic the players were “Awesome” partnership and who would have thought 1 n.o. would go down in folklore.

Season in 2017/2018 under new Captain, Dean Whitelaw.

The premise of Vets is almost exclusively focussed Planning for Vets, Season 2018/2019, is already well around inclusion, participation, social and progressed with 19 commitments already received to reconnection. However, this noted, the standard of play, where required. Dean Whitelaw has again been cricket remains high with Box Hill competing in appointed Captain and we will continue to compete Division 1 (of 5 Divisions) of ECA Veterans Cricket. in Division 1 of ECA Vets.

Vets is a low key, low intensity program of ONLY 7 Ben Wood One Day games in any Season. Incredibly, 2 of these Vets co-ordinator 7 games were not played due to extreme weather; rain and heat. As such, a particularly reduced commitment of 5 games was the Vets summer that was Season 2017/2018.

The ‘tang Vets were represented by 21 players over the 5 games played in Season 2017/2018 and this number provides great evidence as to the flexibility that Vets avail around work and family commitments.

A Season record of 2 wins, 3 losses resulted in Box Hill missing Finals on Percentage.

Stand-out performers for Season 2017/2018 were the recently retired and former 1st XI Premiership player, Daniel Snell, as well as former Victorian State Squad member and Caulfield CC 1st XI Premiership star, Ben Jenkinson. Daniel and Ben were the foundation of on-field competitiveness but were ably supported by Pete Lazer, Justin Farrow, Justin Newbound, Jonathon Finch and Karl Ungerboeck at various times.

On-field performances and results aside, undoubtedly, the 3 Season highlights for the ‘Tang Vets in Season 2017/2018 were; 1) the pre-season drinks and dinner team bonding get-together, 2) the Past Players day where the majority of Vets were in attendance, and 3) the fact that no one seemed prepared to hold a catch off the bowling of David Carter.

24 JG CRAIG U/15 REPRESENTATIVE TEAM

Going into my first Craig Shield as co-coach with I have still keep in contact with the playing squad Nick I felt as though the squad was underdeveloped. and I have given them an open invitation to Both Nick and I thought we would really struggle to experience factors of the senior program of the club win at least one game. To our surprise, we managed such as attending training sessions for this upcoming to win our first game against local rival Balwyn (the season, which I think is a great pathway to graduate favourites to win the East region). This was a credit from Craig Shield to senior men’s cricket. to the boys as on this particular day most, if not all the players contributed to great victory and for dismissing Balwyn for under 100 runs. Squad: Liam Conole Over the course of the other games (defeated in the Joshua Dalrymple last five games) we had some positives and Lachie Fox individual performances, but for us coaches we Ben Hammond Fraser Hoskins wanted to ensure that the group got along well with Dominic Howell each other and fortunately that was evident Jordan Irish throughout. Both Nick and I rotated and tweaked Nick Kann with batting orders, bowlers (such as beginning the George Kitley innings with spin) to ensure that not only did Matthew Lewison everyone get a good crack at the carnival, but to Jesse McCarthy attempt to find players and see how they progressed Tom Sonderhof when faced with some serious game day pressure. Ben Walling

James Rizio Craig Shield Coach Like most teams we had a percentage of some talent, mostly with the ball with the likes of Park Orchards (BHRDCA) seamer Tom Sonderhof, Canterbury (ECA) product Ben Walling and Wesley College opening batsman Fraser Hoskins. These three boys were the daily contributors and we arguably the backbone of the talent within the group.

The main aims I had for this carnival was to engage with the final team to ensure that they learnt more about the game and to take tips that myself and/or Nick gave and implement them back at their respective home club. Another aim was to ensure that we (BHCC) can add to the current squad players from Craig players that want to take cricket further, which at the moment, I believe that approx. 2-4 players will represent BHCC in the near future. The most obvious is Liam Conole, younger brother of Pat Conole.
