National Knockout Cheshire Women's League Nantwich into regional final of National KO, while Leigh reach same stage in Plate … Didsbury still top of division one, but Chester, Trinity and Oakmere remain strong contenders … Upton continue good start in division three … Woodley edge top of the table clash in Division 3 East NATIONAL KNOCKOUT Round Two – May 31: Porthill Park w/o Kibworth Round Three – June 6: Nantwich Vipers 125-2 (20; Madi Hudson 71*, Charlotte Neal 28*, Emily Sutton 2-19) Leyland 84-7 (20; Abby Mort 22*, Beth Hughes 2-11) • Nantwich powered past one of Lancashire’s best club sides to ensure that, for the third competition in a row, the League will be represented in the Northern Regional Final – the last eight nationally. Madi Hudson was the hero, leading the way with 71 at almost a run a ball, being joined by Charlotte Neal for a century partnership. Leyland lost regular wickets in reply as they struggled with their imposing target. A trip to Yorkshire to play Sessay – the club that defeated Didsbury at the same stage in 2018 and 2019 – now awaits the Vipers. June 10: JG Meakin 132-4 (20; Davina Perrin 60*, Stephanie Butler 34, Rosemary Cockle 23, Evelyn Jones 2- 18) Porthill Park 98 (18.1; Becky Cripwell 42, Butler 4-14, Hannah Beasley 2-13) • Porthill's involvement in the competition ended after defeat in this tough assignment against JG Meakin, who can still call on a large number of Staffordshire's senior squad. This is the first time a League side has been beaten by a club from another league in this year's competition. Plate Round Two – June 9: Leigh beat Tarleton – no further details available • The CWCL will also be represented in the Northern regional final of the Plate after Leigh’s victory here. CHESHIRE WOMEN’S LEAGUE Division One – June 6: Appleton 91 (38.4; Di Buckley 26, Emma Royle 3-8, Jenny Dunn 2-3, Ellie Mason 2-13) (3pts) Stockport Trinity 94-2 (19.5; Mason 55*, Carys White 21*, Sami Fowler 2-11) (25pts) • Emma Royle’s bowling spell got Trinity off to a great start and they never looked back. Di Buckley’s battling 26 rescued Appleton to some degree later in the innings, but the target still didn’t trouble the Stockport side, with Ellie Mason seeing them home with another half century. June 13: Leigh 60 (23.2; Kasey Bentham 17, Rachel Tidd 3-8, Kerry Hartnett 2-5, Sophie Connor 2-6) (2pts) Oakmere 61-1 (18.3; Shami Ahmed 27*) (25pts) • Oakmere recorded another comfortable win ahead of next week’s potentially important game against Stockport Trinity. Once again, the all-round depth of the Northwich club’s bowling attack was apparent as they swiftly completed this win. Porthill Park 152 (39.1; Lucy Shenton 57, Gemma Rose 4-17, Ali Cutler 2-22) (7pts) Chester Boughton Hall 154-4 (27.2; Cutler 65, Nandu Vailliyil 29*) (25pts) • Chester made it three wins from four here. Gemma Rose continued her prolific run of wickets in recent matches, before Porthill recovered from 97-8 after Lucy Shenton completed her fifty and found some support from the lower order. However, Ali Cutler continued her superb season with the bat, needing just 52 deliveries to reach 65. Nandu Vailliyil completed the run chase without alarm once Cutler had departed. Appleton 131-6 (40; Tilly Kesteven 32, Emilia Lamb 21, Roshini Prince-Navaratnam 3-26, Emma Jackman 2-26) (7pts) Didsbury 132-6 (36.3; Prince-Navaratnam 60, Georgia Heath 4-11) (25pts) • Oakmere, Trinity and Chester remain title contenders, but it's defending champions Didsbury that lead the way at this point. With regular wickets falling to Roshini Prince-Navaratnam and Emma Jackman, and Rosy Wilson, Zara Matthews and Chloe Hawes all contributing economical spells, Appleton never got the run rate much above three per over. Prince- Navaratnam completed her excellent all-round match, taking the score to 93-1 and completing the lion's share of the run chase, before Georgia Heath's late wickets earned Appleton some additional bonus points. Fixtures awaiting re-arrangement: Leigh v Chester BH Division Two – June 6: Ashton-on-Mersey 70 (31.3; Amanda Gettins 13, Freya Davies 3-13, Ellie Grisedale 3-22) (3pts) Oxton 71-2 (16.4; Molly Price 21*) (25pts) • An excellent all-round bowling effort, followed by a comfortable run chase, saw Oxton to their first win of the year. Enid Bakewell made her debut for AOM here today, and although the England veteran failed to trouble the scorers, seeing this legendary figure of women’s cricket taking the field in Cheshire represents another major coup for our league. 80-year-old Bakewell, who played a key role in the 1973 World Cup win, becomes the fifth full England international to play in the CWCL, following Sarah Collyer, Lauren Griffiths, Laura MacLeod and Sophie Ecclestone. June 13: Upton 123 (28.3; Charlie Scudder 29, Emma Rowlands 22, Amelia Sammons 4-30, Rachel Mann 2- 17, Beth Caunce 2-27) (25pts) Ashton-on-Mersey 68 (30; Sammons 26, C Scudder 3-6, Ellen McGowan 3-16, Becky Jones 2-14) (6pts) • Charlie Scudder made the top score in the first innings then contributed a fine bowling spell as Upton continued their good start to the season. Oxton 180-2 (35; Tessie Nickson 96*, Allyson Byrne 33, Hannah Kowalski 30) (25pts) Porthill Park 2nd XI 55 (20.2; Zara White 3-2, Freya Davies 3-10) (2pts) • Tessie Nickson’s major contribution set Oxton on the way to a formidable total and to their second successive win. Fixtures awaiting possible re-arrangement: Nantwich v Stockport Georgians – Covid self-isolation requirements Division Three West – Fixtures awaiting possible re-arrangement: Hawarden Park v Wistaston Village – no play due to rain on original date, Wistaston Village v Nantwich 2nd XI, Chester Boughton Hall 2nd XI v Wistaston Village – ground availability on original date, Nantwich 2nd XI v Wistaston Village – Nantwich 1st XI involvement in National KO Division Three East – June 13: Woodley 94 (30; Clare Edwards 32, Rosie Bradshaw 3-18, Lily Dalkin-Strube 2-15) Hayfield 87-8 (30; Olivia Downs-Haskell 24, Gemma Stewart 3-21) (7pts) • Woodley hung on to win this exciting battle between two previously unbeaten teams and were especially grateful to Clare Edwards in making the top score from the number nine position, to help them to a total that was just out of Hayfield's reach. Lindow 190-6 (30; Michelle Hesslegrave 51, Lily Beckley 44*, Anne Chadwick 2-27) (25pts) Langley 30 (12.3; Jess Lightowler 4-5) (3pts) • Lindow recorded their first league win of the year in some style. Fixtures awaiting possible re-arrangement: Hayfield v Lindow, Didsbury 2nd XI v Hayfield – no play due to rain on original date Division Four – June 6: Lindow 2nd XI 69-7 (20; Hannah Brooks 12, Olivia Randles 4-11, Gemma Brooks 2-5) (25pts) Heaton Mersey & Cheadle 55 (17.3; Michelle Hesslegrave 4-7, Hannah Brooks 2-3, Steph Walker 2- 7) (6pts) • Heaton Mersey & Cheadle couldn’t follow up their first league win and instead Lindow seconds recorded what was their own second league win of the year. Another remote meeting of the League Committee will take place on Wednesday June 23 at 1930. The meeting joining link will be sent to club representatives, but if you can't make it, please forward the link to someone else from your club who is available. • 371 – March 2018 (2)
THE HAMPSHIRE CRICKET SOCIETY Patrons: John Woodcock Shaun Udal James Tomlinson NEWSLETTER No. 371 – MARCH 2018 (2) Wednesday 28 March 2018 – Meeting The society extends a warm welcome to this evening’s speaker, Adrian Aymes, on his return to the Society. He first addressed members in September 2000, during his benefit year. ADRIAN NIGEL AYMES was born in Southampton on 4 June 1964, and attended Bellemoor School. He came late to first-class cricket. He joined the Hampshire staff when 21 years of age in 1986 but did not gain a regular place until he finally displaced Bob Parks some four years later. He gave notice of what was to follow on his first-class debut against Surrey at The Oval in 1987. With Hampshire in trouble, he battled to 58 not out. Subsequently, no player in the first-class game during the 1990s sold his wicket more dearly. He was undefeated in a high proportion of his innings, which spoke volumes for his technique, temperament and sheer cussedness. With Robin Smith, he became the beating heart and consciousness of the Hampshire batting. If he took root and dug in, Hampshire were generally assured of a competitive total. All of his eight centuries were made in adversity. Of all Hampshire’s wicket-keepers, only his successor, Nic Pothas, has a higher batting average. He was a passionately proud professional, and never gave less than his best. He was fortunate to keep wicket to two of the genuinely great bowlers in the history of the game. At the start of his career, he stood back to the incomparable Malcolm Marshall; latterly, he kept to the unique Shane Warne.

In the absence of any Second XI cricket and the One Day Cup competition, the Bob Willis Trophy reports have been expanded to include a write up for each day’s play as well as the full scorecards. Sadly all fixtures were played behind closed doors so hopefully these extended reports will enable readers to get the feeling of actually being at the game! In addition, the Somerset Women’s team reports plus the Boys and Girls Pathway write ups are included in the first half of the book as they now come under the remit of Somerset CCC rather than the Somerset Cricket Board.

Porthill wrap up Western Division with two matches to spare despite being given another scare by Upton … Didsbury edge the first of the two top of the table clashes in the Eastern Division, but Trinity remain in the hunt … September is ECB’s Women’s Cricket Big Month CHESHIRE WOMEN’S LEAGUE Summer Series Western Division – August 30: Porthill Park 60-9 (30; Becky Cripwell 29, Philippa Dagger 3-5, Madi Arthur 2-9, Hannah McGowan 2- 10, Sophie Morris 2-11) (25pts) Upton 51-9 (30; Charlie Scudder 12, Amy Scerri 3-12, Cripwell 2-2, Lucy Shenton 2-4, Grace Potts 2- 5) (5pts) • Porthill Park are the winners of the Western Division for 2020, sealing the honours with two matches to spare. The Potteries-based club have undoubtedly been the best team, but once again didn’t have everything their own way as they wrapped up the title. However, despite posting a target of just two runs per over, Porthill’s bowlers took early wickets and never relinquished their grip. Amongst some impressive bowling figures Philippa Dagger’s outstanding season for Upton continued; and Becky Cripwell conceded just two runs in her six overs, having also held the Porthill innings together earlier, and she is a strong contender for the league’s best all-rounder of the season. Chester Boughton Hall 79-7 (20; Ali Cutler 45, Molly Price 3-8, Alexa Harrison 3-14) (25pts) Oxton 32 (18.3; Freya Davies 12, Gemma Rose 3-4, Tilly Buss 2-0, Nandu Valliyil 2-7) (4pts) • Ali Cutler’s innings stood out on a day when no other batsman passed 12.

LEAGUE NEWSLETTER: NOVEMBER 2016 Keeping you connected … What kind of Sunday 3rd XI cricket do you want? CLUBS attending the Special General Sunday Third XI meeting at Warrington on October 19 were asked to state the type of cricket they prefer to play in 2017. A satisfactory turn out of 34 clubs spoke mainly in favour of continuing with the current five division regionalised league structure, although with the rules of selection relaxed in some way to allow young 1st XI players to take part and improve what is perceived to be their alternative discipline. A number of other clubs spoke in favour of forming a friendly structure with up to 12 games per season because they were unable to commit to a full competitive programme, yet wanted Sunday cricket for their players. It was suggested that these fixtures would be set out by the league and structured in a geographical manner as far as possible, without any qualification restrictions. Chairman David Humpage said after the meeting: “We need to find out which format clubs prefer next season. We shall be asking all clubs to respond to a questionnaire as set out below. QUESTION 1: Would you prefer to play in: (a) The current league structure or (b) A friendly structure QUESTION 2: How many teams would your club anticipate fielding in either category. QUESTION 3: If it proves impractical to operate a friendly structure for numerical or geographical reasons, would your club in (b) be willing to take part in a league structure? Clubs were asked to respond by e-mail to: [email protected] by November 30.

Sarah Glenn has impressed in Malaysia. Photo: Malaysian Cricket Association Dec 14, 2019 09:48 GMT Glenn Takes Four But Last ODI Washed Out SCORECARD Sarah Glenn took four wickets but England's hopes of a series whitewash in Malaysia were dashed by rain, with the third ODI abandoned after just 37 overs. Glenn's fine spell had swung the game back towards England after an impressive start by the Pakistani openers, and the hosts had fallen from 96/0 to 145/8 when the rain came. Along with centuries for Danni Wyatt, Tammy Beaumont and Nat Sciver, Glenn's form has probably been England's find of the tour. The young Worcestershire leg-spinner has taken eight wickets at just 11.62. Sussex's Freya Davies was presented with her ODI cap before the game, becoming the 130th person to represent England Women in ODI cricket. Captain Heather Knight - who made her 100th cap in Thursday's second ODI - was awarded Player of the Series. Attention now turns to the T20 series - which gets underway on Tuesday December 17. It represents England's final three games in the shortest form before selection for February's ICC Women's T20 World Cup in Australia. All three games will be live-streamed on the Pakistan Cricket Board's YouTube channel. QUOTES Sarah Glenn: “I was really happy to get four wickets today, but it’s a shame the rain came and the game had to be abandoned. “We came back really well with the ball after Pakistan had started on top.
