As part of the book launch, Kate carried out two in-person engagements on her own for the first time since Harry and Meghan’s bombshell Oprah interview. Before now, Kate and William have put on a united front. On Friday, Kate visited The Royal London Hospital to see the work of Vital Arts, a programme that commissions art to be displayed throughout the hospital. The duchess spoke to staff and heard how the National Portrait Gallery has collaborated with the hospital to bring workshops to young patients and their families. The duchess then visited the National Portrait Gallery’s Archive, where she met director Nicholas Cullinan and heard how the 100 portraits taken for the book would become part of its collection. Along with her engagements, Kate also launched a community initiative called The Book Fairies to mark the publication of Hold Still. In total, 150 copies of the book have been hidden in secret locations across the UK for the public to enjoy. The duchess was spotted hiding a copy in the grounds of Kensington Palace in a video posted on the couple’s official Instagram account. According to Duncan Larcombe, Kate’s busy day of solo engagements shows the future queen is ready to shine. “Kate is really coming into her own,” Duncan says. “The last year has given her confidence and proved she is a strong, reliable figure able to take on engagements on her own.” Duncan adds the public are ready to “adore” the hardworking duchess, in a similar way they did her late mother-in- law, Diana. “It really is Kate’s time now. The couple shared the news with fans last week in a series of bare bump shots in which Leigh-Anne and a shirtless Andre could hardly contain their smiles. The Little Mix singer, 29, looked incredible in an emerald green top with material covering the rest of her body. In the second photo, Leigh-Anne wore the same outfit with her Watford FC footballer partner, also 29, standing behind her as he held onto her hand. “We’ve dreamed about this moment for so long and we can’t believe the dream is finally coming true... we can’t wait to meet you,” she wrote alongside the snap. Leigh-Anne later joked that the announcement was a little “extra” but gushed that pregnancy is the “most incredible thing”. The star’s bandmates were among the first to wish the pair congratulations, with Perrie Edwards writing, “I can’t stop staring at these pictures. You’re a vision. Ily [I love you] both so much! Leigh-Anne later opened up about why she had waited until later in her pregnancy to tell everybody she was expecting. “I wanted it to be the right time to tell the world. It’s scary. I wanted to enjoy the moment. You want to own it yourself... I’m happy I got to release that imagery myself,” she said. ‘JEREMYWILL ALWAYSPUTME BEFOREWORK ANDTHAT’S WHAT’SMADEUS STAYTOGETHER’ There were rumours you’re planning to propose to Jeremy. Is that true? There are constant rumours about me getting engaged or married, but no, I’ve got no plans to at the moment. I’ve got a bucket list and I have to say a wedding is not on it [laughs]!

As a woman in your forties, do you get annoyed at being constantly asked about children? I feel like marriage and children are not things I’ve wanted. I like travelling and being with my partner, I like animals, working and being independent and I like my freedom. I like being spontaneous! There are so many things I love, and I think marriage and children would stop me doing those things. I try to imagine how it would be, and when you have children it’s a huge commitment. It’s very hard to change your ways when you get to your forties and I don’t think it’s for everyone. I’m not saying never, it’s just not on my radar. I think about it every now and again, then I quickly forget about it. I just don’t have that instinct.

What is it about your relationship with Jeremy that makes you feel so secure and happy? He’s quite laid-back, he’s a good cook and he’s kind. He’s got so many things that I love about him. We’re just really happy with each other. I’m sure we get on each other’s nerves sometimes, but he’s just a nice guy. It’s not that hard. Also, he’s not overly ambitious. That can be a real turn-off when a guy’s constantly away working and putting work before his family. Jeremy is not like that and will always put me before his work and that is what’s made us stay together. They say when you’re in love there’s not enough time and I completely agree with that. We’ve been together six years now and it’s flown by.

He’s a keen actor. Would you like to work together on a project? Yeah! We do help each other shoot a lot of our campaigns for social media. 26 WWW.OK.CO.UK 27 28 How are your forties treating you? Once you hit 40 you’re very accepting of yourself. You look around and give yourself a pat on the back and think you’ve made it. I’m still here and I’m still doing what I love. I’ve got a nice partner, I’ve got a cute dog, I’ve got my health and I’ve made it through the most stressful year that anyone’s ever known. For all of those reasons, I’m just so grateful to still be here and to be keeping going.

What do you wish you could tell your younger self? It’s a privilege to get old – it’s not a given. Just appreciate the life you have, don’t wish it away. And try to be in the moment as much as you can.

You look amazing and have always been proud to be a natural girl. What do you make of young girls getting surgery and Botox these days? It’s really hard to have a view on it and I can only speak for myself. I don’t judge anyone who has work done, because people have it for so many different reasons, whether it’s to boost self-confidence or they’re conscious of something. For me and my job, people are so used to me looking a certain way, it would be odd if I did anything extreme. I steer away from any fillers or injectables, because I wouldn’t look like me. I’m happy with how I look. I’m getting older and I’m embracing it.

What would you love to do next, career-wise? I’m more focused on my lifestyle than I am on my career. I’d love more animals and I’d like to spend a bit more time gardening. My dream is to have a house in a rural setting, but near the beach, and renovate something like that. And have a few more

The former TOWIE star, who is also stepmum to husband RIO’s children Lorenz, 14, Tate, 12, and Tia, nine, admitted to feeling “overwhelmed”. Kate, 29, explained, “There are so many things about motherhood that no one tells you. I’d had the baby and I was in this whirlwind of emotion. My body was not the body I recognised. I felt really overwhelmed. I was feeling really abnormal and I started panicking. ‘Am I meant to be feeling like this?’” Kate said she decided to share an honest photo of her postpartum body to be real with her followers. She added that while she would like her old body back, finding time for a daily workout session is “unrealistic” with a newborn baby and three older children. “I would love to look how I looked before Cree,” Kate admitted. “But I am not putting a load of pressure on myself because things don’t always go to plan when you have a baby.” MICHELLE DEVASTATEDBY DEATHOFHERMUM

I asked why he wasn’t replying and he told me he really liked me, but couldn’t handle who I was. I was so hurt and angry.

Oh no! What did he mean by that? I don’t know! We’d been talking for six months, so he’d had all that time to decide whether he could handle who I was. Also, we’d been talking about how excited we were to see each other again and for him to come and meet everyone, so to do all that and then suddenly change his mind felt really hurtful. But it’s his choice, and on reflection I can’t say a bad thing about him – I mean, I did at the time! – but he was a normal guy with a normal job, very private and he probably was a bit scared that he couldn’t adapt to my lifestyle.

Do you think he’d have struggled going into a serious relationship with you being in the spotlight? Maybe. He’s got a young daughter, so I do get it. But I wish he’d decided that before I really started to like him. If he’d done that in the first month I’d have felt better, because I was mortified about dating online. It was all so alien to me. It took me a good six weeks to really open up to him and trust him.

Relationships are hard during lockdown, aren’t they? Oh, yeah. But I’m so grateful for what we had. It really helped me through lockdown because it was really lovely to have someone to flirt with. ‘HETOLDMEHE COULDN’THANDLE WHOIWAS– IWASSOHURT ANDANGRY’

Do you think the age gap was a problem for him? No, that was more my issue. He was 48 and I’m 56. That worried me. He got me through all that, though, that’s why I was so shocked when he ended it. I trusted him.

Has it put you off dating now? No! I’m back on the dating websites. I went straight back on, but I’ve had to give myself a break, because guys are messaging me and I can’t be bothered to go through it again. I was swiping left constantly.

Do you get a lot of guys talking to you on apps? I don’t want to sound big headed [laughs]… I have a lot of likes! But I don’t say yes a lot.

Are you looking for someone to marry? Oh God no, I don’t want to get married. But I’m a real romantic and I like having someone there. It’s really hard, because my three kids moved in with their partners, so I’m surrounded by couples.

How does that make you feel? Lonely sometimes. They all go off on their date nights and I think how nice it would be to have someone for me.

What is your type? I like tall men, because I like to feel protected by them. For me, it’s all about chemistry. If they make me laugh, I can fall in love with them. I’ve been with guys who are gorgeous, but by the end of the night never felt so bored. I felt like I had it all with the guy I’ve been dating, that’s why I was really gutted.

What have the kids said about him ending things? They were fuming. But they were suspicious anyway and couldn’t understand why I hadn’t met him when we could go for walks together. But he wouldn’t do any of that. I had some builders at one point doing the house and he was a builder too, so I asked him to come over and do it, but he said ‘AMONTHAGO IWENTVEGAN ANDIFEELSO MUCHBETTER INMYSELF’ we’d get into trouble. The kids just felt if he really wanted to see me he’d have made more of an effort. I should have listened to them, but I trusted his reasons.

Have you spoken to many of the Loose girls about the situation? Yeah, they said he didn’t deserve me. Brenda Edwards has been my wingwoman through the whole thing. She was there when I actually swiped right for him, but was getting annoyed with him for not meeting up with me. I had to tell her to calm down and stop putting pressure on us [laughs].

You always look so amazing on the show – is that down to your new lifestyle? It is! A month ago I decided to go vegan and I feel so much better in myself. If you fancy haute couture style on a high-street budget, look no further than L’Oréal Paris’s latest designer hook-up, exquisitely modelled by Cindy Bruna. The beauty brand has just unveiled a collaboration with Elie Saab, with all manner of eye and lip luxe befitting the fashion guru’s red-carpet style. Well worth it, especially with prices from £9.99.

I don’t hang out with my best male friend for compliments – he’s the sort of mickey-taker I suspect was the worst pigtail puller in the playground. But when we met for our first post-lockdown beer I nearly fell off my chair when he said, “You look quite well.” Perhaps it was because I was buying the round, or perhaps it was because I’d been using James Read’s GLOW20 Facial Tan Serum, £25 – aka the fastest tan in the west. You only have to leave it on for 20 minutes for it to start taking the edge off your pallor, although, admittedly, I’d needed the full 90.

2 Micro management 3 I’m sorry to admit it, but I used to be a bit of a scrubber. There have been several regrettable nights of over-vigorous DIY facials, when I’ve spent ages mashing gritty exfoliants into my skin. If only I’d had Murad’s new Vita-C Triple Exfoliating Facial, £67, which changes colour as you rub to show Glow when enough is enough. (Just seconds, as it turns out.) Right, so, can you create a perfume that smells like falling in love please? That’s a pretty big ask, as far as fragrance briefs go, but I have to say that Mona Kattan’s Kayali Sweet Diamond Pink Pepper, £79 for 50ml, hits the right heart-fluttering note. It’s sweet (but not too sweet), spicy (of course!) and warm (in a sexy, nuzzle-me way). Plus, it lingers longer than someone plucking up the courage for a first kiss. I’m smitten.

He always made me feel like I was more than enough. Sadly, he got diagnosed with sepsis at 78 which gave him delirium. That sent him into a psychotic state for around eight months. He became suspicious and even ran away from home as he thought he was being attacked by the family. At one point, he didn’t even recognise me, and we still really had to fight to get him medication. There were times where he was OK, but there was a constant unrelenting fear that we were going to abandon him. One day in 2019, I had this horrible weird feeling that I just couldn’t shake. So I got into my car and set off for his house. On the way it felt like I got stuck at all the traffic lights. It was the longest journey of my life. When I finally arrived, I leapfrogged over the fence and started shouting his name. I heard a noise, but by the time I got to him it was too late. I’d been a practicing psychologist and therapist for many years and I thought I empathised with people going through loss due to suicide, but the truth is, until it happens to somebody close to you, then you can’t truly understand it. It was agony for me. There is a catastrophic impact of suicide, where you’re instantly more at risk of suicide yourself. There is no real structure in place for helping people deal with that. My dad will always be much more than his ending though. I wish he’d made a different choice but I’m not angry with him. I’m deeply grateful and proud of my father. If I had to suffer all this pain again to have the man I had in my life, I would do it in a heartbeat. Grief is love in disguise. He was
