Wodehouse may not have invented madcap screwball comedy, but this novel proves that he is the consummate practitioner of that art form. Just when the reader thinks the plot cannot get any wackier, it gets downright zany. I say, old chap, reading this book is more fun than watching a dibbly dobbly flounder in a cricket match. And the way all the loose ends tie up at the end is unsurpassed for hilarity.Piccadilly Jim is among the funniest and most entertaining books I have ever read. If you have read Wodehousersquo;s stories, and have enjoyed them, you simply must read Piccadilly Jim.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Good read.By Donna DMBGood read.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Superb, top-notch WodehouseBy Dr. Peter A. KwasniewskiSuperb, top-notch Wodehouse. An impossible story and yet he pulls it off with the usual aplomb. What I especially liked about this one is the clever use of a disguised identity throughout almost the entire story, which (in Shakespearean fashion) becomes a double disguised identity: someone pretending to be someone else pretending to be himself. The fat supercilious boy you love to hate, the hard-hearted female detective you love to hate, the criminal elements, and the suspense carried to the end -- pure brilliance.

Although many might not recognize the name P.G. Wodehouse, they have inevitably come across his work. Wodehouse was a British humorist who wrote novels, short stories, journalism pieces, and other stuff, becoming extremely popular over a 70 year career. Today he is best known for the Jeeves and Castle novels and short stories, but he was also a playwright and lyricist who was part author and writer of 15 plays and 250 lyrics. Both the name "Jeeves" and the character of Jeeves have become a common part of the English lexicon, meaning a valet or chauffeur. It is even the inspiration behind the popular search engine Ask Jeeves.

From Library JournalWodehouse spoofs again the British upper crust in this 1917 title, which finds the incorrigible title character facing reform by his haughty aunt.Copyright 1995 Reed Business Information, Inc.
