China ABSTRACT Punana sinica Liang sp. nov. (Hemiptera: Fulgoroidea: Delphacidae) is described and illus- trated from Sichuan, southwest China. This represents the first record of the genus Punana Muir from China and the fifth known species of Punana. The new taxon extends the range of the genus Punana northward considerably, previously known only from southeast Asia and south India. A key for separation of the species of Punana is included. Barringer1, Charles R. Bartlett1 Abstract: The genera of New World asiracine planthoppers are reviewed and discussed in the context of new taxa discovered in canopy fogging samples from Ecuador. Twelve nomative genera, including 3 Ugyopinae and 9 Asiracinae (1 new) are reported from the New World, although the generic identity o f the single A siraca species could not be verified. A key to New World asiracinae genera, excluding A siraca, is provided. The new taxa include Pentasteira gen. nov. (Asiracinae: Platysystatini) with 1 species (P. albifrons n. sp.) and a new Tetrasteira (Asiracinae: Tetrasteirini), prompting a generic revision with three new described species (T. vulgaris, n. sp., T. trimaculata n. sp., and T. solata n. sp.). A key to the species o f Tetrasteira is provided. Tetrasteira vulgaris n. sp. has been taken in large numbers in canopy fogging samples from terre firme forest in the Amazon basin in Ecuador. Its earliest known member has been described from the Late Cretaceous (Santonian) amber of Taimyr and assigned to the extinct tribe Netutelini (Emeljanov, 1983). Szwedo (2008) described a monotypic genus from Baltic amber and placed it in a tribe of its own, Worskaitini, which he considered closely related to Netutelini. -

Although referred to occasionally in later taxonomic works, the 16 detailed morphology, systematic distribution, and behavioural significance of this structure 17 have remained unknown, and its proposed use in sound production has never been 18 corroborated. Here we examine the distribution and morphology of the supposed stridulatory 19 organ of Derbidae and the recently-described vibratory mechanism of planthoppers – the 20 snapping organ, across 168 species covering the entire taxonomic spectrum of the family. -

Abstract. The planthopper family Delphacidae is a speciose lineage of phloem- feeding insects, with many species considered as pests of economic significance on essential world food commodities (including rice, maize, wheat, barley and sugar cane). Despite their economic importance, evolutionary relationships among delphacids, particularly those within the speciose tribe Delphacini, are largely unknown. Presented here are the results of a phylogenetic investigation of Delphacidae based on DNA nucleotide sequence data from four genetic loci (18S rDNA, 28S rDNA, wingless and cytochrome oxidase I ) and 132 coded morphological characters. The resulting topologies are used to test the higher classification of Delphacidae and to examine evolutionary patterns in host–plant associations. Our results generally support the higher classifications of Delphacidae proposed by Asche, Emeljanov and Hamilton, and suggest that the rapid diversification of the Delphacini was associated with host shifts to, and within, Poaceae, and specifically from C3 to C4 grasses. A compiled list of 64 delphacid species from Puerto Rico is presented, with updated nomenclature, including the new species and a new record of Delphacodes aterrima for Puerto Rico. Key words: Delphacidae, Fulgoroidea, planthopper, new species, Abbrosoga, Puerto Rico Introduction The planthoppers (Hemiptera: Auchenorrhyncha: Fulgoroidea) encompass many species of economic importance, including important plant pathogen vectors (e.g., O’Brien & Wilson 1985, Wilson 2005). The Delphacidae are the second largest family of planthoppers (after Cixiidae) with more than 2,200 described species (Bartlett & Kunz 2015, Bourgoin 2018).
