BRIEFS Supercuts to host Cooper benefit

The Supercuts hair salon in Gulf Breeze will host a fundraiser on Saturday, April 2 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. for Gulf Breeze High School sophomore Quentin Cooper, 15, who was diagnosed with Stage 3 liver cancer in January. Five dollars of every hair cut that day will go toward a fund to offset some of Cooper’s travel expenses to Cooper and from Texas. Donations also will be accepted. Cooper has been undergoing chemotherapy, and his specialists at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, have been evaluating his readi- ness for surgery. Science Olympiad seeks funds

The Gulf Breeze High School Science Olympiad Team, winner 10 straight State of Florida championships, needs the pub- lic’s help to travel to the national champi- onships at the University of Wisconsin on May 18-20. Rotary hosts cook-off Saturday

Navy Seaman Recruit William D. Harris, son of Christie and Denny Harris of Gulf Breeze, was recently pro- moted to his current rank upon gradua- tion from recruit training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. Harris received the early promotion for outstanding performance during all phas- es of the training cycle that included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. The Lady Dolphin softball team prepared for a big week in district play with a pair of wins during Spring Break last week. Lady Dolphins 13, Catholic 0 (five innings) Alison Milam threw a one- hit shutout and struck out six as the Lady Dolphins shut out Catholic March 15. Gulf Breeze (9-5) took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a two-out, two-run double by Megan McDonald. BY JASON THOMPSON Gulf Breeze News [email protected] The Gulf Breeze girls lacrosse teams hosted Ocean Springs (Miss.), Lower Alabama (Daphne) and St. Scholastica (Covington, La.) in a tournament at Shoreline Park on March 12. “It was a great day for Lacrosse,” coach Laura Pattison said.

GBSA 15s 6, Ocean Springs 6 Gulf Breeze led 3-1 in the first half on two goals by Kaytlyn Carlson and one by Meredith Snyder. Ocean Springs came back in second half strong, taking a 4-3 lead with eight minutes left in the game. Michaela Pattison scored twice before Ocean Springs tied the game with less than three minutes left. Carlson tied the game again, but the end of double overtime the game was called a tie.
