APPENDICES ………………………………..…………………………………………………………………………………….. 136 LITERATURE ………………………………………………………….……………………………………………………………………. 137 IMPORTANT DOCUMENTS FOR MONITORING THE IMPLEMENTATION OF GENDER EQUALITY REGULATIONS ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………..…………….. 138 3 PART ONE INTRODUCTION In the Gender Equality Law (hereinafter: GEL) effective on July 30, 2003 (The Official Gazette 116/03), Croatia, taking the espoused constitutional principle of gender equality as one of the fundamental values of the constitutional order of the Republic of Croatia, established a special independent and autonomous body, the Gender Equality Ombudsperson, which: - monitors the implementation of the GEL and other gender equality regulations, - reviews cases of violation of the gender equality principle, cases of discrimination against individuals or groups of individuals committed by bodies of state administration, units of local and regional government and other public authority bodies, their employees and other legal and physical persons, - is authorized to request reports and other necessary information from the bodies of state administration, units of local and regional government, other public authority bodies and other legal and physical persons, and, when the request is not complied with, to ask for work inspection by a relevant body, - has access to documentation regardless of the level of confidentiality, - warns, proposes and gives recommendations in his or her scope of work, - files a complaint to the relevant state attorney's office, if he or possesses knowledge about violations of the GEL provisions with elements of a criminal act, - has the right to file a motion for initiating procedures of the evaluation of the constitutionality of laws and other regulations, if he or she determines that the principle of gender equality has been violated, - proposes initiation of procedures of regulative changes, if he or she determines that the principle of gender equality has been violated because of noncompliance with the GEL, - can request expert help from research and scientific experts and institutions. The Official Report on the work of the Gender Equality Ombudsperson is an annual report submitted to the Croatian Parliament by March 31 of the current year, in accordance with Article 21, para. 1 of the Gender Equality Law and Article 18 of the Rules of Procedure of the Office of Gender Equality Ombudsperson (The Official Gazette 29/04). 4 PART TWO WORK INDICATORS OF THE GENDER EQUALITY OMBUDSPERSON FOR 2004 II.1. GENERAL INDICATORS During 2004, the Gender Equality Ombudsperson took action in a total of 3739 cases, which are in this part of the report shown in a table, and later will be divided by areas of work of the Gender Equality Ombudsperson. The structure of complaints shows that the priorities of the Gender Equality Ombudsperson were determined by and dependant upon deadlines prescribed by the GEL (Article 11 and 30 – adoption of operational plans for the promotion and establishment of gender equality). Without the implementation of these provisions, it is unreasonable to expect that the purpose of the Law will be achieved. The second priority was the need to present the idea of gender equality and implementation of the GEL and other regulations to as many legal and physical persons as possible, especially state bodies, legal entities with public authority, legal entities predominantly owned by the state and units of local and regional government, which must evaluate the impact of their work and behaviors on the position of women and men. That is why the Gender Equality Ombudsperson not only monitored the implementation of the GEL through numerous warnings, recommendations, public and media statements and meetings, but also promoted it. II.2. STRUCTURE OF COMPLAINTS In 2004, there were 88 complaints to the Gender Equality Ombudsperson, in the following areas: - family in 47 cases or 53.4 %, - work and employment in 31 cases or 35.2 % , - education in 1 case or 1.1 % and - other in 9 cases or 10.3 %. Agencija za zaštitu tržišnog natjecanja provela je ispitivanje tržišta tiska u Republici Hrvatskoj u 2017., s ciljem utvrđivanja tržišnih udjela poduzetnika koji djeluju na tom tržištu, kako bi raspolagala bazom podataka s naglaskom na strukturi konkretnog tržišta. Istraživanjem su obuhvaćeni poduzetnici iz Upisnika o izdavanju i distribuciji tiska sukladno Zakonu o medijima, koji vodi Hrvatska gospodarska komora (HGK), a uzorak u istraživanju predstavljala su ukupno 43 novinska nakladnika i distributera tiska. Analizom su obuhvaćena tržišta naklade tiska (općeinformativni dnevnici i tjednici), tržišta oglašavanja u općeinformativnim dnevnicima i tjednicima te tržišta trgovine tiskom na području Republike Hrvatske. Tržišni udjeli poduzetnika na mjerodavnim tržištima utvrđeni su temeljem prodanih naklada izraženih u primjercima tiskovina, odnosno prihoda koji su poduzetnici ostvarili na tržištu oglašavanja, trgovinom na veliko tiskom i tržištu trgovine na malo tiskom. Neovisno o tome je li riječ o elektroničkim ili tiskanim medijima, glavni izvor financiranja medija su prihodi od oglašavanja. Stoga se, kod određivanja mjerodavnog tržišta, u pravilu utvrđuje i tržište oglašavanja te je isto obuhvaćeno ovim istraživanjem. Pravni okvir Tržište tiska u Republici Hrvatskoj regulirano je Zakonom o medijima (ZoM) kao osnovnim propisom. Tesla, by virtue of the amazing discoveries and inventions which he showered on the world, becomes one of the most resplendent flashes that has ever brightened the scroll of human advancement.

Since the beginning of the war in Croatia (1991-95) when the state media stimulated the production of popular music conveying appropriate narratives of national identity, Croatian popular music has been a site for the articulation of explicit national narratives of identity. The practice has continued into the present day, reflecting political and social change in Croatia (e.g. the growth of the war veterans lobby and protests against the Hague Tribunal).

It develops a novel framework that calls both primordialist and modernist approaches to nationalism and national identity into question before applying that framework to Croatia. In doing so it not only provides a new way of thinking about how national identity is formed and why it is so important but also closely examines 1990s Croatia in a unique way. An explanation of how Croatian national identity was formed in an abstract way by a historical narrative that traces centuries of yearning for a national state is given.
